Employers can include what they please it is up to the employee to decide if they want that employment or not.

No compulsion, let the parties enter into their agreement.
That doesn't work when employers conspire to keep worker compensation low.

Well if minimum wage is a requirement. Then why not compulsory health care? If it wasn't for Government regulations we wouldn't have minimum wage, child labor laws, the EPA or OSHA.

Not always. Human greed causes it's own share of problems.
Perhaps... those companies that go the way of greed falter and typically fail.... unless they receive a government bailout of course.

Minimum wage should not be a requirement

That only undermines the workers ability to enter into free system of exchange with the employer.

There are lots of greedy companies that are doing just fine. Look at the airlines...

So maybe they should join a union first? How many people can afford a lawyer to make sure they have a fair deal. I've never hired a lawyer in my life.

I see your reasoning here, and I don't disagree - but I would add one more piece to the plot . . .

if by increasing your prices because of increased taxes you would cause your customer base to abandon your product (for something cheaper) then you might have to reconsider how much profit you would have to make.

So if someone else with the same product and the same quality of product is willing to make less profit, they would conceivably get a bigger part of the market, and thus could put you out of business.

So it is possible that increasing taxes on the rich could cause them to have to reconsider their profit margins.
You do not seem to know how this works for a small business man.
If the government raise my taxes by $6,000 in one year, this is how it would be passed on to my customer---
I have about 10,000 transactions a year and each transaction is $100 so each transaction would only increase 60 cents or 0.6%.
Most people wound never realize the increase.
My taxes would go up $6,000 and the customers would pay the increase without even realizing it.

But, I never raised prices until my competition did, and they always did when cost went up.
Need to also understand, at some point, a small business owner will come to the point where the hours worked and the investment involved is not worth it so he just closes up, goes to work for someone else.
That puts people out of work, lessens competition, which leads to even higher prices.

If people want a socialist state, just understand that YOU will pay for it with YOUR money.
Every socialist state still has the rich. And those rich will continue to get richer at the expense of the consumer.

So the employers can offer even less?
No the the employee can negotiate for their services. It allows the employee to be competitive in the job market too.

Not when employers conspire to keep compensation low.

Iow, if your grocery job doesn't pay a living wage, where you going to go when ALL grocery chains are suppressing wages?

Well you see you think that companies do not value good workers ... actually they do if they want to be competitive.

Most countries are to far along the controlled economy to ever go back to a more free functioning economy ... the damage is done.

But a worker with a certain skill should have the freedom to offer their services in mutually beneficial contract with an employer.

Good idea. So make employment bargaining a high school elective in say the 10th grade because school is only required till age 16.

The average worker hasn't had an effective raise since the 1980's, despite worker productivity going up. In most cases, compensation has actually lessened. If they could negotiate better deals, wouldn't they have?

The only real power workers ever wielded over employers was thru unions. But thanks to union greed, and the 'me me me' movement, that has been lost

ONLY Australia has more living space in their homes in the World than the U.S.

All that socialism, that seems to look so good, comes with a LOT of big drawbacks. One of which is the shoebox sized homes in much of Europe and elsewhere in the world.

The average American home is 2174 Sq. ft. compared to socialist "utopia" Sweden at 893 Sq. ft. Italy 872, U.K. 818....

Not to mention the tiny matchbox cars they drive.
Population density is significantly higher in those countries you mentioned. Probably has more to do with it than the dreaded socialism. At any rate, the three countires with the highest average scores on safety, equality, standard of living, cleanliness, low levels of violence, general educational standard etc: are the Netherlands, Norway and Sweden. Three countries I can hazard a fair guess you've never set foot in.

Socialism has nothing to do with house size anyway. And the "average" home is heavily skewed by the highest denominator, just like the "average" income. You compare the "average" American home, and the "average" American GDP, and forget that the biggest American land owners own thousands and thousands of acres and have houses bigger than some malls, while the largest incomes are in the hundreds of billions of dollars. That doesn't mean that PennEd lives anywhere CLOSE to the standard of Donny Drumpf.

Well in Canada we do to school until 18 and we actual teach economics and employment skills in high school.

Keep putting everything on the shoulder of government rather then letting people run their own lives and well you can see where we are.

There are a lot of factors in determining who might be rich or poor.
I believe Ricky stated he had a six figure income, but living in Calif., that would not qualify as rich while anyone here in Ark might be.
Minimum wage in Ark is $9,50, goes to $10 I Jan 2020 and $11 in 2021 and if one works 40 hours a week it is possible to live on that income if you live in rural areas and not in the cities.
Not fancy, but will buy food and shelter, and you qualify for state medicaid so no worries for normal medical cost.

SO, how many people do you personally know who are rich?

How many people do you personally know who make minimum wage after 6 months on the job?

No, I can't see. I know they've gotten a lot stricter regarding Americans crossing over. And it seems the Old age pension system and health systems seem to work better for those of us with no savings or insurance.
