Many mistakes are made on both ends because many can't tell the difference between kindness and weakness. I'd bet that the nut That shot 46 and killed 26 people in a Texas church, would expect any church members to chase him down and kill him.

Jesus said the time would come to sell our cloaks and buy swords. The time to defend ourselves is when we are attacked.

No one is suggesting to ignore it. but running to the assumption that there is something to punish is non-productive. If you had read anything else that I had posted in this thread you would know that there's a little bit more to what I said. Yes this guy should make restitution for the losses and inconvenience that he caused a bunch of people.
I know this isn't the main subject but I find it kind of ironic that here in America we are quick to jail people, while we are supposed to be the land of the free.
Part of the problem with that mentality is that jail doesn't really fix anything. in fact if you look at the numbers you find the recidivism numbers are absurd and it is a clear indication that imprisonment has provided nothing.
Imprisonment does not provide for restitution to victims, or society, and has not provided any form of deterrent, or rehabilitation.
Back to the subject at hand.
Do we need to investigate this guy and find out if his claims however misguided are his true intent? Sure I would I would investigate him thoroughly to make sure that he is not an actual threat, an proper measures taken if it is found that he is actually a threat.

Yes the penal system is rediculos. It more a warehouse for antisocials than a rehab for misguided people. Some prisons even use Seroquel to medicate some of the prisoners. It's an addictive, anti-psychotic and they come out crazier than they were when they went and more addicted to boot.

Many states are "open carry" states. The law allows anyone who can legally posses a firearm to carry in public (except where prohibited by statute) without any form of licensing or permit as long as the weapon is not concealed. Here in Colorado it is not uncommon to see someone walking through Walmart with a pistol on their side.

Missouri is an open carry state so technically this guy didn't violate firearms statutes since he wasn't pointing the weapon at anyone or verbally threatening anyone, what he did violate was simple rules of common sense.

31 states allow for unlicensed open carry, 16 states require licensing for open carry.

the Prime Minister can actually call in the army in Canada....I understand that is not done here...for extreme measures

I'm not afraid of guns, but I am not sure I would be comfortable with people wearing guns and walking around

would have to get used to that...so different then Canada

plus we have 10 provinces and you guys with 50 states...

Those are both fallacies.
It has been demonstrated that in areas where civilians are likely to be armed, these cowards do not commit their atrocities.
It is also demonstrated that in such cities as Chicago; permit requirements do not prevent the wrong people from obtaining firearms.

I guess you will have to define assault weapon. That's a pretty contentious matter.
the legal definition as of 1960 as far as I can tell is any semi-automatic firearm with an detachable box magazine which would include your Beretta.
Someone to contend that an AR-15 style rifle is what constitutes an assault weapon,
Man that definition leaves a lot to be desired though. It leaves out a large portion of actual military rifles.
So I hope you will clarify.
