What is the context of the point about hired servants in the verses before that?

Do I have to spell out for you what the scripture wrote?
No Guojing, I prefer to rely on the Holy Spirit for clarification of scripture.(y)

the prodigal son was repentant and was willing to be one of the hired help and not the son but his father did welcome him back with much love and joy .. not all prodigals return, including prodigal sons/daughters of God
Why did he want to be a hired help? What does the scripture says?

It’s funny how you keep thinking I believe salvation is losable in the church age when we were discussing this parable in another topic
Salvation is losable in NO AGE and I was not addressing your drivel, but rather making a generalized statement to Laffy Duck.....

we are told a few times in God's Word to "endure" till the end .. to endure aka persevere aka persist in faith and in doing God's Will .. if we do not endure, we shall not have eternal salvation unless, of course, we repent and then endure ..

The bible never said "change your mind towards wickedness", but that you "MUST" turn from wickedness. It's a MUST, not to change your minds towards it. But you "have to" turn away from wickedness.

2 Timothy 2:19 New International Version (NIV)
19 Nevertheless, God’s solid foundation stands firm, sealed with this inscription: “The Lord knows those who are his,” and, “Everyone who confesses the name of the Lord "must" turn away from wickedness.”

Not indicative of salvation, but rather being alive at the end of the Great Tribulation.....and of course I fully expect you to reject this.....!!!

Time will tell...and make no mistake, time is very short indeed!

I agree with
Lafftur .. God's Word IS God's Word so Who best to say it and clarify the meaning than God Himself
When the word literally says the hungry Son remembered hired servants have more than enough bread to eat, and people still want to read into what made the prodigal Son want to be a hired servant.

It's a parable. It has a deeper meaning. When you consider the 3 parables together, 99 sheep 1 lost (100), 9 coins 1 lost (10), 2 brothers an older, a younger. Joining 2 sticks together...I've come only to the lost sheep of the House of Israel.…other sheep not of this fold...all these are connected. It's a theme running all thru the Bible, reconciling 2 brothers.

1 John 3:24
Whoever (keeps his commandments) abides in God, and God in him. And by this we know that he abides in us, by the Spirit whom he has given us.

It is hilariously sad how some think that every time the words lost and saved are used, that they are indicative of the spirit and one's eternal destiny......geesh....no wonder a world of people are being led to the flaming pit by religion and false teachers....!!!

The prodigal son wanted to be a hired son, because he saw the destruction of his sins and the place those sins led him too. The prodigal son, left his "father" to go and live a life of wickedness, he then saw where that wickedness led him. He ate pigs food when he turned away from his father. But the father welcomed his son home with open arms. Even though his son left him. So the prodigal was a son, who turned away from his father to go and live with prostitutes.

The prodigal also BURNED HIS INHERITANCE through rioteous living....YET REMAINED A SON, WAS ALIVE and RECEIVED AS A SON regardless...
