Asking you, what do you mean by receiving thirst and hunger?

i dont understand how some say we should seek some kind of hunger or seek to be thirsty, given what Christ pretty plainly says - partly that's why i started this.
i hear sermons and songs saying, God we're thirsty for you, and God we need a fresh anointing, and God we hunger for you, we need more - and i am like, isn't this total opposite of Bible??
so, could you explain more, what do you mean, how does a Christian receive thirst? maybe by forsaking the Lord, becoming faithless, and rejecting His gift??
