A rod is used for correction and iron refers to bondage or captivity.
God using “captivity” as correction reminds me of the “time-out” chair my kiddos had to sit in for 5 minutes when they disobeyed me. Lol!
In time-out, all toys and treats are not allowed. It’s really like captivity.
Makes sense to me now why God used captivity for correction.

Prophecy tells us Jesus will start the MK with a rod of iron. Remember the world will consist only of previous unbelievers, save for 144,000 young Israelis. The people in the rest of the countries will be quite hard hearted having just been through a horrific time of death and dismay in the GT.
They will be forced to do things God's way for a change. After a short while, they will start to notice the blessings that come from that. The more they obey, the more they are blessed. I don't believe the rod will be necessary long term.
Once they start reaping the good they have sowed, they will be willing participants. Soon everybody will be looking for a poor person to give to for the blessings it encompasses. Before long there will be no poor.
