Look out the window of calamity

As I study Exodus, and ponder those same questions like the choice to harden Pharaoh's heart, while casting all kinds of chaos and calamity to rain on Egypt, to showing mercy on whom He chooses; yes. again I am pondering a recent thread, pondering His creating calamity and all things on this earth and in Heaven. Isaiah 45:7 and Col 1:16.


The One forming light and creating darkness, Causing well-being and creating calamity; I am the Lord who does all these.

For by Him all things were created, both in the heavens and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities-all things have been created through Him and for Him.
Colossians 1:16 NASB


How can we reconcile with the harsh truths in the bible, or in our lives...how are we able to say He is all Good if He is able to create bad?


First, His Goodness is beyond my realm of understanding. Trying to analyze God's choices or His behavior is beyond preposterous, because everything about Him is out of my league. The best I can do is go to the source of all goodness…

So I wonder is this a fair statement?

Since we are created in His image…

We, like He, can choose right or wrong, that is why choosing right, with Him, makes His goodness even better. When it comes to goodness, He is BEST!!!

We have to ask ourselves: Just what is this image that we reflect from our heavenly Father. When you quote Isaiah 45:7 where is says God created evil/calamity does not mean He designed it; He created it by defining it. This is where the original sin came in and where also Satan's sin originates. When we take it upon ourselves to decide what is good and evil we are supplanting God word/definition of the same.

Satan and the rebelling angels had never tried the "other" way of doing things. Maybe they thought evil might really be good. So they tried the evil path and became set in its ways. What God is doing with mankind and the angels is showing us the result of unchecked evil. I believe, under Satan's rule, the earth became empty and desolate by this mismanagement (see Gen. 1:2). God is going to intervene right before it happens under man's dominion (see Gen. 1:28). This world system is run by Satan deceiving man without his (man's) knowledge. We know the end.

Bamidy Bam Bam!!! So well said. I never considered that...if I understood you correctly, His creating it doesn't mean He designed it to be used recklessly, in an unchked way, that doing so causes calamity and chaos. Hmmmm, yummy food for thought, Brother Deade.

We were created in His image then through the actions in the garden we fell and won’t be restored to His image fully until were glorified with Him in eternity??

My first thought is.............the same as Jesus. He reflected the Father's Will and the Father's Mercy - both are a reflection of the Father's Love.

I say this because it's how I understand the 4 living creatures and the slain lamb upon the throne in heaven. The 4 living creatures display the Father's Will and the slain lamb upon the throne displays the Father's Mercy.

When the Father's Will is disobeyed, the 4 living creatures send out the 4 horsemen. However, the 4 living creatures bow and worship the slain lamb upon the throne which means judgment bows and gives way to Mercy. The horsemen "passover" all with the Blood of The Lamb of God. Mercy triumphs over judgment.

Lion/King = Highest Authority and All Powerful
Calf or Ox/Priest = Meets all our needs
Man/Savior = God saves us
Eagle/Deliverer = God delivers us from death and hades/hell

Hmmmmm...a great capacity for selfless love and mercy in action, but of course we know these are only possible with Him?

And here I was thinking all along that there were only windows of opportunity! What a calamity!

Anyhow calamities on this earth are a result of the curse which came upon creation after the Fall. And they will continue to increase until the Second Coming of Christ. In fact, the calamities which are on their way are going to be such as have never been experienced before. The book of Revelation is a warning to all those who have not obeyed the Gospel.

God creates and evil in a couple way one by hardening the heart of one and softening the other by giving it rest from the tribulations of this life .

Job 23 informs us it is God who performs that which he appoints to us, a mirror teaching of Philippians 2:12 In Job 23 .....it is he who can make our hearts soft. .God working in us to both will and perform his good pleasure . Our imputed righteousness .

Hardening ones own heart can be the result of God sending a strong delusion to believe the lie refusing to buy truth they sell it seeing no value. .

Hebrew 4 gives us some good insight to the hardening of the hearts of those who do not mix the faith that comes from hearing God in what they do hear showing they are in ubeleif (no faith ) When they hear His voice and agree with it there heart become soft to the hearing of faith. The Phraoh did not belive in a God not seen when ofered the gospel . Hardening his own heart God when God sent a strong delusion to make it like Granite.
