The early elders created the creeds because books were very rare and expensive. The creeds were created to state what a person MUST believe to be a Christian. That along with selected memorized verses is how evangelism was done. The required beliefs with verses backing it up. For your edification here is a list of creeds and how they were created.

Here is a list of the ancient creeds with date and short explanation.

Roman Creeds 120 Part of the earliest attempts that resulted in the Apostles Creed. First attempt was only 1 sentence. The last was almost the Apostles Creed. They grew by stages into the Apostles Creed.

Apostles' Creed 120-250 Product of the Roman Christians around A.D.180.

Creed of Nicaea 325 Ecumenical Church Product of the first ecumenical council in Nicaea which tried to solve the Arian controversy.

Nicene Creed (Nicaea-Constantinopolitan Creed) 381 Ecumenical Church Expansion and revision of the 325 Creed of Nicaea (includes new section on Holy Spirit). It is the most widely accepted Christian creed.

Chalcedonian Creed 451 Council of Chalcedon Nearly all Christian denominations (except Oriental Orthodoxy, the Assyrian Church of the East, and much of Restorationism)

Athanasian Creed 500 Western Christian denominations Lat.: Quicumque vult The origin of this creed is uncertain, but it is widely used in various Christian denominations.
That was well and good then but we have a new invention called the printing press. I haven't known anybody that can't read since I got out of prison rehab counseling work 9 years ago.

In fact, the Lord did not say repeat after me, he said when you pray, pray like this; "Our Father..." It was a lesson how to pray not what to say.

Most people don't know how to pray any more and need to be taught. How to pray not what to say.

You remind me of a hog on ice. What happens when a hog gets out of its pen in winter up north is at a point it can't move because it just slips its footing. If a farmer tries to help it the hog will try to attack the farmer. The farmer puts a rope around the hogs neck and pulls it off of the Ice. Then the farmer can guide the hog back to its pen.

I'm 74 and been a Christian all my life. I served as elder and deacon in 3 Reformed theology denominations. Moved twice. Part of becoming an elder and deacon was taking classes from the pastors about the theology of the church. Looked at creeds and confessions from the Biblical point of view. Your theology needs a lot of work!!
You Hypocrite! Is name calling the limit of your comprehension. Does being a christian all of your life make you more qualified than a sinner saved by grace? In fact did you never have to go against family customs, origins and race and need to decide against what you were taught in order to choose Jesus? If not, then what do you know about it?

You are making my point for me. The printing press is a relatively new invention. They didn't have it back then!!

What do you know about the inner workings of a church. There are several committees. One is by whatever that church gives it a mercy committee that helps those in need. I served on that committee and saw what had happened to people to cause them to be in desperate need. Abusive husband's, runaway moms and dads. Moms and dads high on alcohol and/or drugs. All of these had a huge impact on the children.

One thing we did was never give them money but take care of their needs. Food, gas, paying rent or mortgage. The ones in need were very thankful but those out after money were angry.

And we don't need back then now! We have better tools!
Thus you ignore my point was back then. They needed things to memorize and be able to repeat it as needed to bring others to Christ. Then not now!!

I didn't call you a name. I pointed out your demeanor with discussion is unbending. I used a farm anecdote to illustrate your method of discussion. I carefully said you reminded me of, not saying you are. Do you need remedial help in understanding the English language?

Uh, I've worked for them. I try not to harp on it. Drug counseling, suicide prevention, mental illness. Crisis intervention, Homeless assistance and, cult deprograming were a few of the things we did. Then I got involved with a prison and biker ministry. Worked for a wedding chapel. for many years before getting involved with newly released prisoner rehab

I believe we reached the point of no return long ago. The eclipses show God knowing the end from the begining created the moon orbit to create the eclipses when time to pronounce judgement comes. That time has come for the US. Only a splinter of Christians left in this country. All of the protestant big denominations are secular. Only the sub denominations still preach the gospel message. Go to one of the main denominations like Presbyterian USA and see if Jesus is even mentioned. Presbyterian PCA is the denomination I went to for many years. At an invitational evening service with refreshments served at a refreshment and fellowship time a man that attended a Lutheran church told me he heard the gospel message for the first time. Almost half of the population attend church but only a splinter of them hear the gospel message.

Thus God's condemnation on the US.
Why is the US so special to receive God's condemnation?

Is the US the new Israel?

My father was a Mason and I was a member of the DeMolay a junior Masonic organization like Eastern Star for women. I almost became a Mason but family problems prevented that. I was partway through the membership when I was forced elaswhere. That is why I know so much about it. Wherever you are getting that information is a bogus hate site.

Yikes!! o_O

I was under the impression masons are allowed to practice astrology.
And Franklin belonged to the Hell's fire club. The link I posted came from www.mnmasons.org and much of the info came from the history channel.
The documentation (if true) on Benjamin Franklin and his private life is scary!!!

It is obvious you are ignorant about the Masonic Order. It has 2 sides to it. Christian and adherents to Judaism. To be a member you must be one or the other unless they changed it. George Washington was a 32 degree Mason. Go peddle your ignorant garbage elsewhere. I don't know where you got that garbage but it is false.
Are you defending freemasonry as an acceptable organization to belong to as a Christian?

@Endoscopy SINCE I KNEW WAS SAVED 42 YEARS AGO COME PENTECOST. The only major denominations I felt at home in were Assemblies of God/United Christian Assemblies Orange County Ca. and the Salvation army central Las Vegas Corps. Most of the times have been freestanding independent 'A' political, Charismatic and or Evangelical churches. I attended Methodist because of it's ties to the Salvation Army Corps., and because they host Celebrate Recovery. Otherwise if you like to call names, you can call me a Charismatic Quaker.

In 3 churches (moved twice) I was a deacon and elder serving on those boards and was appointed to help the committees I was assigned to. So I was part of the inner circle ruling the church. In the Reformed method elders serve the spiritual needs of the congregation and the deacons the physical needs. The physical needs are easier to handle. Spiritual ones can get quite messy when the one partner in marriage is having bad issues. One was an alcoholic and was killing himself since his liver was failing. We finally got through to him but it was long long and drawn out. His real problem was his wife. I heard one elder say he would be an alcoholic married to her.

Going back to the creeds one issue was to agree to disagree anything outside of the creed. Therefore all of the different gospel preaching denominations are valid. So as long as the gospel message is preached whatever style and peripheral beliefs you like is fine. Just extend the same courtesy to others.

I got saved partly by meeting with Christians in a park sharing the word. I started going to church after. I got baptized in a lagoon.

I remember this started because I felt the USA was being wrongly glorified almost as it were holy or something their may be 2 million full gospel believing Christians left but that's only 2/3% of the population of 300 million...We are but a small remnant. I'm sorry I let you get my goat. I have been quiet too long.

This nation needs deliverance and revival not the usual rhetoric.
