If my son said " Dad, I'm a drug addict" or alcoholic, or homosexual, or a transgender, my response would be exactly the same.
I'd say, " You know I love you, and NOTHING can change that, but what you are doing is wrong and sinful".[/QUOTE]

And your son would still be gay. You might lose him to suicide or he might simply just stal talking to you. But one thing is sure: he would not change because it is not a choice. So you would not be loving your child unconditionally. I know a woman (evangelical by the way) who said these very words. Her son is still gay but moved thousands of miles away AND now he hates God. By not giving your child the truth you are actually hating your child.

He may indeed continue to have desires for the same sex. Why are you building a strawman as if I said otherwise?

But having those desires and ACTING upon those desires are 2 entirely different things.
For many yrs now the "scientific" community has said that addiction is caused by genetics. Just like you are claiming with homosexuality.

So according to you, because "they were born that way" if my son were a heroin addict, I should just support that behavior. You have a very sick mentality in thinking that unconditionally loving your child means to not only let them do what they want, but also to not even tell them what they are doing is wrong and sinful. That is how parents create little monsters that become worse adult monsters.

In any event, right and wrong doesn't change regardless of my actions or inactions, and if my son were to leave or worse, I would feel bad and always welcome him home, but I wouldn't compromise my Love for the Lord by telling him his sinful behavior is ok.

But we do see the end game with the depraved and their allies such as yourself. Even SAYING that homosexuality is a sin you are now equating to hatred, and of course we cannot tolerate hatred, therefore Christians who say such things must be punished.

Why can you not see that YOU and others that promulgate this lie are the actual haters?

I am not pushing gay sex. I am saying that the orientation is not changeable. No one knows the cause but I am quite sure it is NOT a choice. I would rather have a child believe in God rather than hate God like the son of the woman I know (the Evangelical Christian woman). I know that the Bible in 6 verses addresses the subject.

I do not call these people depraved. (that sounds alot like hate to me). I think they have that attraction. I know that I could never choose to be gay because I am attracted to the opposite sex. I believe the same is true for them.

I have not personally attacked you but I see you saying I have a sick mentality because I refuse to demonize one sin over another. It is not a question of "allowing or not allowing" the adult "child" to do what they will do.

You cannot control your adult children; you can ony love them. I would love my child either way. Now if they were a murderer or harmed other people, I would be beyond the pale, and cannot say how 'conditional' or 'unconditional' my love would be. I have not been tested.

I have two grown children (females). They do not believe all that I believe religiously and not ... in other words they are their own persons and I let them be who they are and love them. They are good, hardworking citizens who do not harm others. That is my benchmark. I raised my children, I love them, and always will but I do NOT own them.

It is very difficult to have a meaningful conversation with you since you continuously either build strawmen or have a serious reading comprehension problem.

Reread my previou posts a couple times, and for God sake burn down those strawmen BEFORE erecting them!!

Amen. So very true.
actually it seems to be your heart and Jennies heart, that are hardened against the Bible

you simply do not believe that God will not accept people like this with their sin as they are and you practice a phony love that is like the world and it will send people to hell

ridiculous posturing

I agree with a lot of what you are saying, as long as people are capable of separating the sinful behavior from the person.

That’s my concern. We’re saying we hate the sin, but love the sinner, but too many times it looks like we hate the human being as well.
well the thing is, we can separate just fine

the question is, does God?

the answer is...no He does not. these sins will send people to hell so best understand that no matter how much sympathy one may have, God is not sympathetic at all

read Romans 1 for a better understanding

“God is not sympathetic at all”.

I have to think about what you just said there.

what do you think of Romans chapter 1?

I'm posting it below so you don't even have to crack a Bible

if you think that saying God is unsympathetic to those in continuing sin who have chosen to ignore His word, what do you think of His wrath ?

God is not sympathetic about sin.

it would be very interesting to hear your opinion on what God says instead of trying to make those in Christ guilty over your supposed love for those that are condemned and dying in their sins.

what do you do to help those people?

in contrast, what does God do to help those alienated from Him and stuck in their sin?

that should really give you something to think about right there

1 Paul, a servant of Christ Jesus, called to be an apostle and set apart for the gospel of God— 2 the gospel he promised beforehand through his prophets in the Holy Scriptures 3 regarding his Son, who as to his earthly life[a] was a descendant of David, 4 and who through the Spirit of holiness was appointed the Son of God in power[b] by his resurrection from the dead: Jesus Christ our Lord. 5 Through him we received grace and apostleship to call all the Gentiles to the obedience that comes from[c]faith for his name’s sake. 6 And you also are among those Gentiles who are called to belong to Jesus Christ.
7 To all in Rome who are loved by God and called to be his holy people:
Grace and peace to you from God our Father and from the Lord Jesus Christ.
Paul’s Longing to Visit Rome
8 First, I thank my God through Jesus Christ for all of you, because your faith is being reported all over the world. 9 God, whom I serve in my spirit in preaching the gospel of his Son, is my witness how constantly I remember you 10 in my prayers at all times; and I pray that now at last by God’s will the way may be opened for me to come to you.
11 I long to see you so that I may impart to you some spiritual gift to make you strong— 12 that is, that you and I may be mutually encouraged by each other’s faith. 13 I do not want you to be unaware, brothers and sisters,[d] that I planned many times to come to you (but have been prevented from doing so until now) in order that I might have a harvest among you, just as I have had among the other Gentiles.
14 I am obligated both to Greeks and non-Greeks, both to the wise and the foolish. 15 That is why I am so eager to preach the gospel also to you who are in Rome.
16 For I am not ashamed of the gospel, because it is the power of Godthat brings salvation to everyone who believes: first to the Jew, then to the Gentile. 17 For in the gospel the righteousness of God is revealed—a righteousness that is by faith from first to last,[e] just as it is written: “The righteous will live by faith.”[f]
God’s Wrath Against Sinful Humanity
18 The wrath of God is being revealed from heaven against all the godlessness and wickedness of people, who suppress the truth by their wickedness, 19 since what may be known about God is plain to them, because God has made it plain to them. 20 For since the creation of the world God’s invisible qualities—his eternal power and divine nature—have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that people are without excuse.
21 For although they knew God, they neither glorified him as God nor gave thanks to him, but their thinking became futile and their foolish hearts were darkened. 22 Although they claimed to be wise, they became fools 23 and exchanged the glory of the immortal God for images made to look like a mortal human being and birds and animals and reptiles.
24 Therefore God gave them over in the sinful desires of their hearts to sexual impurity for the degrading of their bodies with one another.25 They exchanged the truth about God for a lie, and worshiped and served created things rather than the Creator—who is forever praised.Amen.
26 Because of this, God gave them over to shameful lusts. Even their women exchanged natural sexual relations for unnatural ones. 27 In the same way the men also abandoned natural relations with women and were inflamed with lust for one another. Men committed shameful acts with other men, and received in themselves the due penalty for their error.
28 Furthermore, just as they did not think it worthwhile to retain the knowledge of God, so God gave them over to a depraved mind, so that they do what ought not to be done. 29 They have become filled with every kind of wickedness, evil, greed and depravity. They are full of envy, murder, strife, deceit and malice. They are gossips, 30 slanderers, God-haters, insolent, arrogant and boastful; they invent ways of doing evil; they disobey their parents; 31 they have no understanding, no fidelity, no love, no mercy. 32 Although they know God’s righteous decree that those who do such things deserve death, they not only continue to do these very things but also approve of those who practice them.

I think you need to stop jumping to conclusions.

I don’t endorse the gay lifestyle. But I don’t think they choose to be gay. And I feel sorry for them. I pray for them and I don’t alienate them.

We both know that the gay lifestyle is harmful. Look at all the diseases originating from it. That’s not, however, the point. I just don’t think nobody chooses to be gay, they’re just like that for reasons only the good Lord knows.

I’ll leave it at that. I can’t do nothing but offer my prayers.

God is not sympathetic about sin.
Matthew 18:21-22 King James Version (KJV)
21 Then came Peter to him, and said, Lord, how oft shall my brother sin against me, and I forgive him? till seven times?
22 Jesus saith unto him, I say not unto thee, Until seven times: but, Until seventy times seven.

I take this to mean that Jesus said we are to forgive over and over again. Since Jesus is the Son of God, then he speaks for God and IS sympathetic about sin. He forgave and tells us to forgive.

Perhaps you meant something else?

Good point, Jennie:
I that when we discuss politics, sex and religion, we are bound to get very emotional. Sometimes, we, wrongly, jump to conclusions. It is even more difficult here on the internet, when all we have is the written word ... no eye contact, no voice inflectioin we can "read into" or "miss the meaning" of what was meant. I know I have done it myself and later seen that what someone meant versus how I took it, were two different things.
Of course, there are also flat out disagreements about things which is bound to happen.

Forgiveness is showing mercy for a WRONG perpetrated by the offender.

Jesus NEVER had sympathy for the sin commited by a sinner. Even the adulterous woman was given forgiveness NOT SYMPATHY. She was also told not to do that adulterous sin any longer.
Is Jesus a hater?

Homosexual desires are simply a manifestation of the sin nature. Those who say that sinful desires of any kind is a choice aren't accepting the reality of the fallen nature of humanity and will cause significant damage when evangelising those who are ensnared in homosexuality. Sin isn't merely a lifestyle, it's a reality of our present existence.. whether one pursues those desires is a completely separate issue.

No. I know that. But Jesus said to forgive 70 x 7. To forgive infinitely. Jesus forgave again and again. He had\tremendous compassion which is different from sympathy. Compassion is to be able to understand how another feels ... it is to care deeply for another's suffering.

Is Jesus a hater? You are asking this? Dont understand you, but I will pray for you. Be well. God loves you.

Why do you think I asked that Blanche?

Jesus loved this woman, forgave her, BUT told her to stop sinning.
You have been saying that not accepting the sin they are engaging in because " they were born that way" equates to hating them.

So did Jesus hate this woman by telling her to stop having sex with men that weren't her husband?

you that I thought you were endorsing a sinful lifestyle?

I never thought that.

I was pointing out your negative criticism of Christians who do not offer worldly love as a cushion for the sin, especially directed at myself with your friend Blanche, wherein, you said I had a hard heart because I offered a viewpoint from God's perspective

the lifestyle leads to death, so yes that is harmful (yah think?)

worse, are those who call themselves Christians and say we should not judge and love the sinner and not the sin blah blah blah

that would be anyone saying they are a Christian and yet leaving out God's judgement on the sinner BECAUSE of the sin

love the sinner and not the sin is not even in the Bible..Ghandi, a sexual pervert himself, made those words popular and misguided Christians have picked up on the phrase and think it is from the Bible

I take this to mean that Jesus said we are to forgive over and over again. Since Jesus is the Son of God, then he speaks for God and IS sympathetic about sin. He forgave and tells us to forgive.

Perhaps you meant something else?

Jesus was talking about those who sin against us...and we forgive BECAUSE our sins are forgiven

this is a major problem for people who misquote scripture and put a twist on what it actually says

there is NO forgiveness of sins from the only One who can actually forgive...GOD...if the person does not turn from their sins and accept Christ...which requires a sincere heart...and not lip service

again, read Romans 1 and then come back and tell us all how many times God forgives the unrepentant homosexual

God GIVES THEM OVER to their sin which means their hearts are perverted and they will die in the sin
