@TamLynn..do you currently go to a big church? Mine has bout 150 in the sanctuary at the 2 nd service..doesn't include kids n not sure how many for the first service..but the building itself is a converted bar n club..kinda cool history but pretty non traditional and I love it..it soeaks truth from the pupit n not afraid to talk bout sin and sinful social issues..definitely not a "feel good" church .lol

On a full Sunday I'd say 50-60 people. The majority of our congregation are seniors, with a fair amount of us middle agers sprinkled about. Our pastor is in his mid thirties and has a young family so younger folks are starting to trickle in.
Wonderful, godly people who truly have a desire for our community in come to Christ. Sound preaching too!

I think a great gift would be getting her a baby sitter. And taking her out in some way. It depends on her unique personality of course. Look for what she's missing. And see if you can help her with it. If she's always busy with the kids, help her with a babysitter. If she struggles with money, maybe help her provide for the kids in some small way. If she doesn't have many friends, be a friend.

I am a single mom of four children. Three of my children have life threatening disabilities. Because I have to care for them, and can only work a few hours a week due to their sever medical needs, we are always broke. However, we love doing outdoor activities together. The issue is, we rarely have gas to go to any of the wheelchair accessible hikes we would like to go to. For me, it would probably be gas cards, or a gift card to a local thrift store where I could buy my girls some shoes that fit them, or maybe a box of pull-ups and wipes.

I don't know how true that is, but I used to date a woman who was getting her masters in psychology and it just doesn't make sense to me why someone would rack up at least $100k+ (probably closer to $200k) in student loans and attend 4 years of graduate school on top of a 4 year college degree (8 years total) to get their masters or PhD in order to become a licensed psychologist and then go out and barely make any money. That doesn't make any sense to me at all.
Because it's a calling. It's more realistic than astronomy and some start for personal reasons like trying to figure out what's wrong with themselves or a loved one but become fascinated with it and continue. Or get hooked on student grants and loans and become professional students, as long as the money keeps rolling in.
I've been a Clinical Registered Master of Social Work (MSW, RSW) in private practice since 1987 (p/t) & 1999 (f/t). I am also an ordained pastoral counsellor and would be glad to to address the veracity of the "speculations" in this thread on professional mental health clinicians!

Rather than piggybacking on what was most recently said, I'll start with the original question at hand. What would make my days and heart a lot happier would be free college for all who can pass the entrance exam for all citizens. No more minority grants to be sucked up by the institutions of higher learning. Just a decent education that doesn't depend on social, racial, geographic or other qualifiers to all citizens who can pass and more so free help to those who need their education to get beefed up a little to pass like math or English. A 12th grade education was a great leg up in the days of black and white TVs and Ozzie & Harriet but now days It's worth very little.
