It’s very simple.

Saved by grace through faith means you obeyed the Gospel.

Do you understand how faith is activated?

Whenever we see the phrase “by faith” it means God spoke and someone obeyed.

Please read Hebrews 11 so we can discuss the law of faith and how faith operates.
Saved by grace through faith means you obeyed the gospel by choosing to believe the gospel (Romans 1:16: 10:16)

Hebrews 11:1 - Faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen.

In Hebrews 11, notice in all of these occurrences that is was "by" or "out of" faith, not faith is in essence, these acts of obedience/works. Their faith was genuine and it was shown by their actions (works) so all of these works accomplished in Hebrews 11 were done "by" or "out of" faith, but those works are not the essence of faith, but are the evidence (fruit) of faith.

That is absolutely critical to understand! We are saved through faith at it's origin and not at some time later, based on the merits of acts of obedience/works that follow faith. You are basically teaching that faith “is” obedience/works so when you say we are saved by faith, you are actually saying we are saved by works.

now why did I suspect this?

a scripture?

dude...the entire NT save Revelation is ALL about just that

Jesus said to Nicodemus...you must be born again

what do you suppose Jesus meant by that? I am offering this from the gospels...even before His death and resurrection, Jesus preached the gospel

there is no obedience without salvation. otherwise, you are 'working' to be saved and that is not possible
I agree. We learn the obedience of faith - from the things we suffer/experience/go through.

So it is clear from this forum that nobody knows what the gospel is and if the gospel is hidden from you then you are lost.

2 Cor 4:3 But if our gospel be hid, it is hid to them that are lost:

4 In whom the god of this world hath blinded the minds of them which believe not, lest the light of the glorious gospel of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine unto them.

Strong words from Paul.

What do you say about that.

Hi, resident newbie here. :)
How would you know the differences between what you call Paul's definition of the Gospel and that of Jesus Christ to make such an observation? While asking the question, what is the Gospel according to Jesus Christ?
Thank you for asking. Here is a scripture to confirm what Jesus"s Definition of the Gospel is.

Matt 9:35 And Jesus went about all the cities and villages, teaching in their synagogues, and preaching the
gospel of the kingdom, and healing every sickness and every disease among the people.

So you accuse everyone on this forum of not knowing what the gospel is? That sounds arrogant and you also sound confused. The gospel is the "good news" of the death, burial and resurrection of Christ (1 Corinthians 15:1-4) and is the power of God unto salvation to everyone that BELIEVES.. (Romans 1:16).

To “believe” the gospel is to trust in the death, burial and resurrection of Christ as the ALL-sufficient means of our salvation. The gospel is certainly hid to those who don’t believe.

The Prophet
Duet 18:14 The nations you will dispossess listen to those who practice sorcery or divination. But as for you, the Lord your God has not permitted you to do so. 15 The Lord your God will raise up for you a prophet like me from among you, from your fellow Israelites. You must listen to him. 16 For this is what you asked of the Lord your God at Horeb on the day of the assembly when you said, “Let us not hear the voice of the Lord our God nor see this great fire anymore, or we will die.”

17 The Lord said to me: “What they say is good. 18 I will raise up for them a prophet like you from among their fellow Israelites, and I will put my words in his mouth. He will tell them everything I command him. 19 I myself will call to account anyone who does not listen to my words that the prophet speaks in my name. 20 But a prophet who presumes to speak in my name anything I have not commanded, or a prophet who speaks in the name of other gods, is to be put to death.”

Ephesians 3:1 - For this reason I, Paul, the prisoner of Christ Jesus for you Gentiles— 2 if indeed you have heard of the dispensation of the grace of God which was given to me for you, 3 how that by revelation He made known to me the mystery (as I have briefly written already, 4 by which, when you read, you may understand my knowledge in the mystery of Christ), 5 which in other ages was not made known to the sons of men, as it has now been revealed by the Spirit to His holy apostles and prophets: 6 that the Gentiles should be fellow heirs, of the same body, and partakers of His promise in Christ through the gospel, 7 of which I became a minister according to the gift of the grace of God given to me by the effective working of His power. 8 To me, who am less than the least of all the saints, this grace was given, that I should preach among the Gentiles the unsearchable riches of Christ, 9 and to make all see what is the fellowship of the mystery, which from the beginning of the ages has been hidden in God who created all things through Jesus Christ.

That was not part of the gospel which the twelve, John the Baptist, and Jesus Christ were preaching. Yet, they were still preaching the gospel of the kingdom to Israel.

Jesus Christ sent the twelve to preach only to Israel. Matthew 10:5 - These twelve Jesus sent out and commanded them, saying: “Do not go into the way of the Gentiles, and do not enter a city of the Samaritans. 6 But go rather to the lost sheep of the house of Israel. 7 And as you go, preach, saying, ‘The kingdom of heaven is at hand.’ The disciples were specifically told to go only to the people of Israel, and they were not preaching anything about the death, burial, and resurrection of Christ or that the Gentiles should be fellow heirs, of the same body, and partakers of His promise in Christ through the gospel.

In Matthew 16:15, Jesus Christ asked His disciples, “But who do you say that I am?” 16 Simon Peter answered and said, “You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.” 17 Jesus answered and said to him, “Blessed are you, Simon Bar-Jonah, for flesh and blood has not revealed this to you, but My Father who is in heaven.

Now Peter had no clue that Jesus Christ would be crucified and resurrected, although he did believe that Jesus was the Messiah. This is obvious when, only moments later, Peter rebukes Jesus Christ for saying he will be killed, and be raised again the third day" (Matthew 16:21). In verse 22, "..Peter took him and began to rebuke him, saying, “Far be it from You, Lord; this shall not happen to You!”

Before his death, Jesus told the twelve that he had to die and that he would rise on the third day. Looking back upon this passage we see this as Jesus speaking of an event that would change the history of the world. However, it is unquestionable that the disciples were ignorant of its meaning.

“Then he took unto him the twelve, and said unto them, Behold, we go up to Jerusalem,…And they shall scourge him, and put him to death: and the third day he shall rise again. And they understood none of these things: and this saying was hid from them, neither knew they the things which were spoken. – Luke 18:31-34. hmm... that's strange if the gospel that came through a revelation of Jesus Christ to Paul (Galatians 1:11-12) and was a mystery prior to that has the same content as the gospel of the kingdom. *This is where we need to RIGHTLY DIVIDE THE WORD OF TRUTH.

After his crucifixion, instead of anxiously waiting his resurrection, the apostles were still ignorant, disheartened at the death of their redeemer, and did not even at first believe the testimony of his resurrection (Mark 16:14, Luke 24:19-24).

It was not until after his resurrection that Jesus appeared to the apostles and opened their understanding (Luke 24:44-47).

*In this age, there is a distinctive element to the content of the gospel which is called "the mystery of the gospel" (see Ephesians 6:19 and compare with Colossians 1:26-27; 4:3). This new revelation is that the Gentiles are fellow-heirs and fellow-members of the body, and fellow-partakers of the promise (Ephesians 3:6). Such equality, Jew and Gentile united together in one body was previously unknown. The distinctive message of the church is that Jew and Gentile alike may believe the gospel and be united together into ONE BODY (Ephesians 1:13; 1 Corinthians 12:13). *Where was this preached by the disciples before the cross?

A twisted pauline scripture that does not come close to the real gospel.
So only you understand the real gospel and the rest of us are deceived? That appears to be what you are peddling.

I have just about heard a 100 definitions of the good news, here are some of them.

1. Death, burial, and resurrection of jesus.
1 Corinthians 15:1 - Moreover, brethren, I declare to you the gospel which I preached to you, which also you received and in which you stand, 2 by which also you are saved, if you hold fast that word which I preached to you—unless you believed in vain. 3 For I delivered to you first of all that which I also received: that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, 4 and that He was buried, and that He rose again the third day according to the Scriptures.. I believe Paul. What about you?

2, Good news of grace,
Gospel means "good news" and it certainly involves grace:

Acts 20:24 - But none of these things move me; nor do I count my life dear to myself, so that I may finish my race with joy, and the ministry which I received from the Lord Jesus, to testify to the gospel of the grace of God.

Galatians 1:6 - I marvel that you are turning away so soon from Him who called you in the grace of Christ, to a different gospel.

Philippians 1:7 - just as it is right for me to think this of you all, because I have you in my heart, inasmuch as both in my chains and in the defense and confirmation of the gospel, you all are partakers with me of grace.

3. Gospel of redemption
The gospel "good news" involves redemption through Christ.

Romans 3:24 - being justified freely by His grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus.

Ephesians 1:7 - In Him we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of His grace. Through His blood is an expression pointing to the totality of Christ's atoning work as a sacrifice for sin. The word "cross" is also used similarly to refer to the whole atoning work of Christ on the cross (1 Corinthians 1:18; Galatians 6:12,14; Ephesians 2:16).

4. Power of God
The gospel is the power of God unto salvation to everyone that BELIEVES.. (Romans 1:16). So what is your problem with these descriptions of the gospel?

That's the catch. There is no Gospel told by Jesus. The Gospel by definition is the death and rise of Jesus and what that means. Jesus foretold of his passing but that is not the Gospel.
That's actually not the case. Jesus did teach of the coming of the kingdom of God.

So it is clear from this forum that nobody knows what the gospel is and if the gospel is hidden from you then you are lost.

2 Cor 4:3 But if our gospel be hid, it is hid to them that are lost:

What do you say about that.
Just this. The word "Gospel" as we know it today derives from the Greek word,Euangelion . Which means, good tidings. Or, good news. Jesus was preaching the good news of the coming kingdom of God. Which he also told us is within us.
With all your judgment there of the many pages people chose to create to share their thoughts with you one thing is missing.
Maybe you might consider if to this point you've shown us that you know what the gospel is.

This is what the new testament prophets/APOSTLES preached.

Acts 8:12 -THIS IS WHAT PHILIP PREACHED
12 But when they believed Philip as he proclaimed the good news of the kingdom of God and the name of Jesus Christ, they were baptized, both men and women.

Acts 28:30 THIS IS WHAT PAUL PREACHED
30 For two whole years Paul stayed there in his own rented house and welcomed all who came to see him.
31 He proclaimed the kingdom of God and taught about the Lord Jesus Christ—with all boldness and without hindrance!

So what is your point? If the gospel of the kingdom, prior to the cross has the exact same content as the gospel that Paul preached, which came to him through a revelation of Jesus Christ (Galatians 1:11-12) and was still a mystery prior to that (Ephesians 3:1-9) then Matthew 10:5-7; 16:21-22; Mark 16:14; Luke 18:31-34; 24:19-24, 44-47, along with Ephesians 3:1-9 is superfluous.

*Why don't you show me anywhere in the 4 gospel accounts where the disciples preached the death, burial and resurrection of Christ BEFORE the cross and that Gentiles should be fellow heirs, of the same body, and partakers of His promise in Christ through the gospel. I'll be waiting.

Included in the red letters in the Bible are words of judgment, sorrow, pain, suffering, condemnation, hell etc.. You call that good news/the gospel? You are confusing what the gospel "is" with everything that is written in red in the 4 gospel accounts - (Matthew, Mark, Luke and John). Mormons are also confused about what the gospel "is" and they have "added" the book of Mormon to the Bible and call it the "fullness of the gospel" yet they clearly teach a "different" gospel.

26 Jesus answered them and said, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Ye seek me, not because ye saw the miracles, but because ye did eat of the loaves, and were filled.

27 Labour not for the meat which perisheth, but for that meat which endureth unto everlasting life, which the Son of man shall give unto you: for him hath God the Father sealed.

28 Then said they unto him, What shall we do, that we might work the works of God?

29 Jesus answered and said unto them, This is the work of God, that ye believe on him whom he hath sent.

30 They said therefore unto him, What sign shewest thou then, that we may see, and believe thee? what dost thou work?

31 Our fathers did eat manna in the desert; as it is written, He gave them bread from heaven to eat.

32 Then Jesus said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Moses gave you not that bread from heaven; but my Father giveth you the true bread from heaven.

33 For the bread of God is he which cometh down from heaven, and giveth life unto the world.

34 Then said they unto him, Lord, evermore give us this bread.

35 And Jesus said unto them, I am the bread of life: he that cometh to me shall never hunger; and he that believeth on me shall never thirst.

36 But I said unto you, That ye also have seen me, and believe not.

37 All that the Father giveth me shall come to me; and him that cometh to me I will in no wise cast out.

38 For I came down from heaven, not to do mine own will, but the will of him that sent me.

39 And this is the Father's will which hath sent me, that of all which he hath given me I should lose nothing, but should raise it up again at the last day.

40 And this is the will of him that sent me, that every one which seeth the Son, and believeth on him, may have everlasting life: and I will raise him up at the last day.
