Those who believe to the saving of the soul--YES. Those who draw back to perdition and DO NOT believe to the saving of the soul--NO. (verse 39). Hebrews 10:10 - By the which will we are sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once for all. Hebrews 10:14 - For by one offering he hath perfected forever/for all time them that are sanctified. Does "draw back to perdition" sound like sanctified once for all/perfected forever/for all time to you? I didn't think so. You can't have your cake and eat it too Ralph.

Actually, I have read the Bible for myself, numerous times and have tested what it says against what others have said. Making false accusations against others and painting OSAS believers with a broad brush of teaching hyper grace is not being honest, so it's hard for me to have respect for someone who does that.

*To "willfully sin after receiving the knowledge of the truth" (verse 26) and "draw back to perdition" does not describe someone who has truly been born of God (1 John 3:9) and such a person is NOT sanctified once for all or perfected forever/for all time but the genuine believer who has believed to the saving of the soul has truly been washed, sanctified and justified (1 Corinthians 6:11).

Sanctified does not mean saved for those who "draw back to perdition and do not believe to the saving of the soul" and you just admitted that "sanctified" has several uses and meanings in the Bible, so you are half way there. It's you who is out to accommodate your biased doctrine of eternal IN-security at all costs. It's interesting how false religions and cults, such as Roman Catholicism and Mormonism strongly share your same views about OSAS.

Those who draw back to perdition and DO NOT believe to the saving of the soul, obviously did not heed these words because their confession of hope and confidence was obviously not firmly rooted and established from the start or else they would have believed to the saving of the soul.

Not at all. DID NOT BELIEVE TO THE SAVING OF THE SOUL is not saving belief, so how can they go back to unbelief when they did not truly believe? Obviously, genuine belief was never firmly rooted and established in the first place. Those who believe to the saving of the soul do not draw back to perdition and those who draw back to perdition do not believe to the saving of the soul.

I did consider the context and for the born again believer, sanctified means saved, and the saved believer is sanctified once for all/perfected for all time, but for the "nominal" Christian who draws back to perdition and does not believe to the saving of the soul, such a person may have been "set apart" or identified as an active participant in the Hebrew Christian community of believers, yet has renounced their identification with other believers, by "rejecting the knowledge of the truth" they had received, and trampling under foot the work and the person of Christ himself, which gives evidence that their identification with the Hebrew Christian community of believers was merely superficial and that they themselves were NOT genuine believers who were born again.

You are rejecting the context and ignoring the fact that only genuine believers are sanctified/once for all/perfected forever/for all time (and not unbelievers who draw back to perdition and do not believe to the saving of the soul) in order to defend your predetermined doctrine of losing salvation. Nice try Ralph, but no cigar.

Throughout the book of Hebrews, we see a CONTRAST between genuine believers and unbelievers:

Hebrews 3:8 - Do not harden your hearts as in the rebellion, In the day of trial in the wilderness, 9 Where your fathers tested Me, tried Me, And saw My works forty years. 10 Therefore I was angry with that generation, And said, 'They always go astray in their heart, And they have not known My ways.' Not descriptive of believers. There is no loss of salvation here. Only a failure to receive it. Verses 18-19 - And to whom did He swear that they would not enter His rest, but to those who did not obey? So we see that they could not enter in because of unbelief. That explains the hardened heart. It took them in the opposite direction of God. Heard the truth for a time, but then hardened heart and departing from God became their final answer. Jude 1:5 - The Lord delivered His people (the Israelites) out of Egypt, but later destroyed those who did not believe.

Hebrews 4:1 - Therefore, since a promise remains of entering His rest, let us fear lest any of you seem to have come short of it. 2 For indeed the gospel was preached to US as well as to THEM; but the word which THEY heard did not profit THEM, not being mixed with faith in those who heard it. 3 For we who have believed do enter that rest, as He has said: "So I swore in My wrath, 'They shall not enter My rest," although the works were finished from the foundation of the world. Obviously, not all of these Hebrews were believers. *Notice that verses 2-3 makes a distinction between US who have BELIEVED and do enter that rest and THEM who heard the word but did not mix faith with what they heard and will not enter that rest because of UNBELIEF.

*In Hebrews 12:5, we read - See to it that no one comes short/falls short/fails to obtain the grace of God.

Amen, correct, God will never forsake us, can we forsake him? Not according to what we read in Isaiah 40 and Psalm 139.

Some go back because they decide they love their lives or the things of this world more than GOD. The cares of this world choke out the life of GOD

Ye adulterers and adulteresses, know ye not that the friendship of the world is enmity with God? whosoever therefore will be a friend of the world is the enemy of God. James 4:4

No domestic slave is able to serve two masters, for either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to one and will despise the other. You are not able to serve God and money.” Luke 16:13

In regards to the thorny soil, the word was choked out before reaching it's desired goal, making it [unfruitful]. The cares of this world have the effect of stifling the word/gospel, such that the person does not bear the fruit of salvation.

Put a stop to the growth of the word and it gives no fruit (Bible in Basic English). The potential to eventually become established and produce fruit was there, but the word was choked out before reaching it's desired goal. It (the seed, the word) became unfruitful (produces nothing, proves unfruitful, does not produce fruit, yields nothing), because the growth of the word was choked. In the Complete Jewish Bible we read, Now the seed sown among thorns stands for someone who hears the message, but it is choked by the worries of the world and the deceitful glamor of wealth, so that it produces nothing.

Nothing amounts to nothing and nothing was mentioned about it ever producing something and faith without works is dead.

In CONTRAST, we read in Matthew 13:23 - "And the one on whom seed was sown on the good soil, this is the man who hears the word and understands it; who INDEED BEARS FRUIT and brings forth, some a hundredfold, some sixty, and some thirty." *Only the 4th soil produced crops of any size.* I suppose the question still remains, "can this forth soil eventually become fruitless?" If this were possible, why didn't Christ include such a scenario before concluding? There is mention of a difference in the size of the crops, but no consequences or warnings are given to the lesser producers. Only the 4th soil was referred to as "good ground" and produced a crop (fruit) and there is NO MENTION OF CHOKING OR WITHERING THEREAFTER.

The "ye" in the James passage is not referring to believers that are in Christ, but to the "twelve tribes scattered abroad." See James 1:1. James is prophetically speaking of the nation of Israel in the tribulation. This is not Church doctrine.

No the 4th soil cannot become fruitless. That's the whole point. They believe to the saving of the soul.

Amen! The 4th soil was the only soil that was NOT fruitless. Faith is the root of salvation and works are the fruit. No fruit at all demonstrates there is no root.

Thats because the 4th soil was the only soul that was born again, and given the seal of the spirit.

The others never came to living faith which saves the soul, they came to grace but fell from it before they were saved by it.

No, there definitely are roots in the shallow soil and in the soil overrun with weeds. Worldly things overcome the plants so that they don't produce fruit.

The roots were not boind or found in christ, thats why here was no fruit,

faith without works (works produce fruit). People have belief (mental agreement)butdo not have true faith, so they are hearers of the word only, and many become antichrist and leave as in 1 john, who were never of us.

1 Corinthians 3 proves that a born again believer can get caught up in this world and live carnal, have the works burned at the JSOC and still be saved eternally. This example of a believer will have their rewards taken from them.

If that's the case, where is the FRUIT? Faith without works is dead? Right? But the ones on the rock are those who, when they hear, receive the word with joy; and these have no root.." Problem from the start. Temporary shallow belief that was not firmly rooted or established from the start "has no root" represents rocky soil. Then we see the results of this. Temporary shallow belief that has no root, lacks moisture, produces no fruit and withers away. This does not represent saving belief.

In regards to the thorny soil, there was motion, movement and growth toward becoming fruitful, but it was choked out before reaching it's desired goal (as the 4th soil reached it's desired goal of producing a crop) and instead, it became unfruitful, yields nothing, does not produce fruit. Just like the seed that fell on the stony soil, where it did not have much earth; and immediately it sprang up because it had no depth of earth (it sprang up but no crop sprang up) and and because it had no root it withered away. (Mark 4:6) There was motion, movement and growth, unlike the seed that fell by the wayside, yet the condition changed from sprang up (although it did not yet reach it's desired goal) to withered away.

In both cases, the word was never firmly rooted and established from the start. People who do not hear the word with a good and honest heart and having "no root" and "no fruit" do not experience real salvation.

Have you never seen plants that grow robustly, but don't produce fruit because they get the wrong nutrients (which is comparable to doctrine), or not enough sunlight because they get choked out by weeds? They are very well rooted. It's external factors that cause fruitlessness.

That is correct. But it is not likely that those people are in full assuranc of their salvation.

Does the passage of scripture say very well rooted? Is a fruitless faith a living faith or a dead faith?

Does the passage of scripture say not very well rooted? It says neither. But we can reasonably infer from nature that those type plants would indeed be well rooted.

Speculation and faith without works is dead. Where is the FRUIT?
