He that believes on the Son is having everlasting life.

Jesus is the one that begins, finishes and completes the work of faith in us! We are kept by the power of God!

Is this true DC?

Romans 2:12, “For as many as have sinned without the Law, will also perish without the Law, and as many as have sinned in the Law, will be judged by the Law.”
I have said at least 500 times in this thread that the law condemns ALL AS GUILTY.......it is our schoolmaster, it points us to the only cure....the righteousness of Christ imputed by faith WITHOUT the deeds/works of the law.....

The law is WEAK THRU THE FLESH
No one Keeps the law
No one is made righteous by the law
But that did not answer if that verse is true or not.

Also the Law is to show what love is according to the Creator of all that is:

1 John 5:2-3, "By this we know that we love the children of Yah, when we love Yah and guard His commands. For this is the love for Yah, that we guard His commands, and His commands are not heavy."

Question: why on God's green earth do nice well meaning folks, only focus on James2:17 (dead faith) and wrongfully interpret the meaning of James2, and then disregard the remainder of the bible, just like, "Romans4:4-6." Could it be they are continually trying to prop up their false doctrine built around, "One Bible Verse", by the way which is the same formula that cults use to justify their false gospel.
Well meaning folks focus on James 2 because it is a difficult chapter to disregard. There are many faith scriptures, there are many works scriptures and there are many grace scriptures. They all work hand in hand to bring us the formula for salvation. you cannot focus on faith without focusing on works, without focusing on grace. All are important for our salvation.

BTW, just because we well meaning folk do not believe 100% of what you believe or interpret scripture 100% the way you do does not put us well meaning Christians into a cult mentality, nor do we belong to a cult. But I forgive you for saying we do.
Allow me to simplify with this biblical formula...
accepting Jesus=Salvation>works=treasures in heaven

Walk trough the valley
Yes we are. Notice, of all the newcomers who support grace plus works to keep yourself saved, "none" will give their theological background or their Church associations. If we knew the answer to either of those questions it would be much easier to have a real discussion. Better yet why are they keeping this information a secret, are they not happy with the choice they have made.

Something to think about, why so quiet.
"I must work the works of him that sent me, while it is day: the night cometh, when no man can work. As long as I am in the world, I am the light of the world."
This implies that after Jesus left the world, night came and no man can work. Actually relates the meaning of the fig tree being cursed, "No fruit grow on you from now on for ever." No one justified by the law. outch

And on the other hand brother, languages are still confused until we are perfect in Love: To some people Grace and work have the same meaning. Go ahead ask how can this be? "What must we do that we might work the works of God?' 'This is the work of God that you believe on Him whom He has sent." = Grace: here is the formula, just kidin I'm not Einstein, but here it is anyway, "Faith that works by Love." "The Love of God poured in our hearts by the Holy Ghost." Just like this explanation cant fix the languages barrier, even if you understood, even if we understand you; there is no other solution than to be filled with the Holy Spirit to solve the language barrier.

If anyone does not abide in Me, he is thrown away like a branch, and is withered; and they gather them and throw them into the fire, and they are burned. If you abide in Me, and letting My words; abide in you, you will ask what you will, and it will be done for you. In this is My Father glorified: when you produce much fruit; and in this way you become My disciples. Just as the Father has loved Me, so have I loved you; continue in My love. If you keep My Commands, you will abide in My love; just as I have kept My Father's Commands, and abide in His love. These things I have spoken to you, that My joy might remain in you, and that your joy might be complete. This is My Command: Love one another as I have loved you. Greater love has no one than this: that one would lay down his life on behalf of his brothers. You are My brothers, if you do whatever I command you."

John 3:36, “He who believes in the Son possesses everlasting life, but he who does not obey the Son shall not see life, but the wrath of Yah remains on him.”

does not obeyis word #544 - apeitheó: to disobey, Original Word: ἀπειθέω, Part of Speech: Verb, Transliteration: apeitheó, Phonetic Spelling: (ap-i-theh'-o), Short Definition: I disobey, rebel, am disloyal, Definition: I disobey, rebel, am disloyal, refuse conformity.
In John 3:36, "He that BELIEVES on the Son has everlasting life". *Notice that this BELIEF is not in yourself or in good works. Notice also that this BELIEF is not in Jesus Christ "plus something else," otherwise the BELIEF (trust, reliance) would not be "ON THE SON".

In regards to "does not obey the Son" in the New American Standard translation of the Bible, this does not mean that receiving eternal life is received based on the merits of our obedience/works which follows believing on the Son, but obey by choosing to believe on the Son. If John wanted to make obedience the central theme in salvation here, he would have said: "He who believes and obeys the Son has eternal life," but that is not what John said. To obey the Son here is to believe on the Son.

The King James Version renders this same verse as: He that believeth on the Son hath everlasting life: and he that "believeth not the Son" shall not see life; but the wrath of God abideth on him. The NKJV says "does not believe the Son" and the NIV says "rejects the Son." The Greek word translated as "believeth not" in that verse is "apeitheo" and it means: not believe, disobedient, obey not, unbelieving. Strong’s definition of apeitheo is "to disbelieve willfully and perversely." In the context of 3:36, to not obey the Son means to reject His message by refusing to believe on the Son.

I have often heard works-salvationists (such as Roman Catholics, Mormons, Campbellites etc..) cite John 3:36 in the NAS translation of the Bible and stress the word "obey" the Son, then write a blank check with the word "obey" and fill out whatever amount of obedience/works they feel are necessary to be saved (water baptism, partaking of the Lord's Supper during Mass, obeying the commandments, performing works of charity etc..) and call that believing on the Son, yet they are actually believing in their works and not ON/IN THE SON.

I will wear that banner any day of the week....and anyone who refuses to accept the bible only as the rule of faith and practice states clealry they are not of God....as far as the rest...the bible proves salvation by grace through faith void of works to gain....maybe if you quit using faulty sources made by men and started trusing the bible.......
How is it possible to have saving faith without works? James 2 states that faith without works is dead. While works doesn't save it is the validation of faith. Therefore no works no faith. You keep ignoring this connection. This is how we are to recognize the wolves in sheep's clothing!! Actions speak louder than words concept.

Matthew 7 NIV

True and False Prophets
15 “Watch out for false prophets. They come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly they are ferocious wolves. 16 By their fruit you will recognize them. Do people pick grapes from thornbushes, or figs from thistles? 17 Likewise, every good tree bears good fruit, but a bad tree bears bad fruit. 18 A good tree cannot bear bad fruit, and a bad tree cannot bear good fruit. 19 Every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire. 20 Thus, by their fruit you will recognize them.

True and False Disciples
21 “Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only the one who does the will of my Father who is in heaven. 22 Many will say to me on that day, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name and in your name drive out demons and in your name perform many miracles?’ 23 Then I will tell them plainly, ‘I never knew you. Away from me, you evildoers!’

A few of them admitted they are not even going to a church, i think that may be more of an answer, maybe they think this is their church? If so, they need to seek biblical direction of what a local body of christ looks like

John 12:42-50 Yet at the same time many even among the leaders believed in him. But because of the Pharisees they would not confess their faith for fear they would be put out of the synagogue; FOR THEY LOVED PRAISE FROM MEN MORE THAN PRAISE FROM GOD. Then Jesus cried out, “When a man believes in me, he does not believe in me only, but in the one who sent me. When he looks at me, he sees the one who sent me. I have come into the world as a light, so that NO ONE WHO BELIEVES in me should stay in darkness. “As for the person who HEARS MY WORDS BUT DOES NOT “KEEP” THEM, I do not judge him. For I did not come to judge the world, but to save it. THERE IS A JUDGE FOR THE ONE WHO REJECTS ME AND DOES NOT ACCEPT MY WORDS; that very word which I spoke WILL CONDEMN HIM at the last day. For I did not speak of my own accord, but the Father who sent me commanded me what to say and how to say it. I know that his command leads to eternal life. So WHATEVER I SAY is just what the Father has told me to say.”

Isaiah 5:20-24 Woe to those who call evil good and good evil, who put darkness for light and light for darkness, who put bitter for sweet and sweet for bitter. Woe to those who are wise in their own eyes and clever in their own sight. Woe to those who are heroes at drinking wine and champions at mixing drinks, who acquit the guilty for a bribe, but deny justice to the innocent. Therefore, as tongues of fire lick up straw and as dry grass sinks down in the flames, so their roots will decay and their flowers blow away like dust; for they have REJECTED THE LAW of the Lord Almighty and SPURNED THE WORD of the Holy One of Israel.

Romans 3:27-31 Where, then, is boasting? It is excluded. On what principle? On that of observing the law? No, but on that of faith. For we maintain that a man is JUSTIFIED by faith APART from observing the law. Is God the God of Jews only? Is he not the God of Gentiles too? Yes, of Gentiles too, since there is only one God, who will justify the circumcised by faith and the uncircumcised through that same faith. Do we, then, NULLIFY THE LAW by this faith? Not at all! Rather, WE UPHOLD THE LAW.

Luke 6:46 “WHY DO YOU CALL ME, ‘LORD, LORD’ AND DO NOT DO WHAT I SAY?

Galatians 6:7-10 DO NOT BE DECEIVED: GOD CANNOT BE MOCKED. A MAN REAPS WHAT HE SOWS. The one who sows to please his sinful nature, from that nature will reap destruction; the one who sows to please the Spirit, from the Spirit will reap eternal life. Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up. Therefore, as we have opportunity, let us do good to all people, especially to those who belong to the family of believers.

IT’S DISAPPOINTING TO LEARN THAT A LOT OF PEOPLE CLAIMING TO BE CHRISTIANS CLING OR TRUST MAN MADE DOCTRINES MORE THAN THE TRUTH IN THE SCRIPTURES.

2 Timothy 3:15-17 and how from infancy you have known the holy Scriptures, which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith in Christ Jesus. All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the man of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.

THESE SELF-PROCLAIMED CHRISTIANS WOULD REJECT GOD’S WORDS, LAWS AND COMMANDS TO DEFEND WHAT WAS TAUGHT TO THEM BY THEIR CHURCH LEADERS.

Mark 7:6-13 He replied, “Isaiah was right when he prophesied about you HYPOCRITES; as it is written: “‘These people honor me with their lips, but their hearts are far from me. They worship me in vain; THEIR TEACHINGS ARE BUT RULES TAUGHT BY MEN.’ You have let go of the commands of God and are holding on to the traditions of men.” And he said to them: “YOU HAVE A FINE WAY OF SETTING ASIDE THE COMMANDS OF GOD in order to observe your own traditions! For Moses said, ‘Honor your father and your mother,’ and, ‘Anyone who CURSES his father or mother must be put to death.’ But you say that if a man says to his father or mother: ‘Whatever help you might otherwise have received from me is Corban’ (that is, a gift devoted to God), then YOU NO LONGER LET HIM DO ANYTHING for his father or mother. Thus YOU NULLIFY THE WORD OF GOD by your tradition that you have handed down. And YOU DO MANY THINGS LIKE THAT”

TO THEIR SHAME, THESE PEOPLE CLAIM TO KNOW GOD BUT BY THEIR ACTIONS THEY DENY HIM.( titus 1:16)

THEY CLAIM TO BE ETERNALLY SAVED ALTHOUGH THEY ARE DEAD IN THE EYES OF GOD (rev 3:1-6)

THEY NOT ONLY APPROVE OF THOSE WHO MOCK GOD AND TRAMPLED THE SON OF GOD UNDER FOOT.(psalms 49:13-15)

Hebrews 10:28-29 Anyone who rejected the law of Moses died without mercy on the testimony of two or three witnesses. How much more severely do you think a man deserves to be punished who has trampled the Son of God under foot, who has treated as an unholy thing the blood of the covenant that sanctified him, and who has insulted the Spirit of grace?

BUT THEY EVEN PRAISE THE ONE WHO CALLS JESUS “CURSED" WHILE MOCKING AND INSULTING THOSE WHO PROMOTE OBEDIENCE TO GOD AND HIS WORD THROUGH THE GOSPEL OF OUR SALVATION.

“WOE TO THOSE WHO CALL JESUS “CURSED” AND TEACHES DISOBEDIENCE TO GOD’S WORDS AND COMMANDS.”

2 John 1:5-11 And now, dear lady, I am not writing you a new command but one we have had from the beginning. I ask that we love one another. And this is love: that we walk in obedience to his commands. As you have heard from the beginning, his command is that you walk in love. Many deceivers, who do not acknowledge Jesus Christ as coming in the flesh, have gone out into the world. ANY SUCH PERSON IS THE DECEIVER AND THE ANTICHRIST. Watch out that you do not lose what you have worked for, but that you may be rewarded fully. Anyone who runs ahead and does not continue in the teaching of Christ does not have God; whoever continues in the teaching has both the Father and the Son. If anyone comes to you and does not bring this teaching, do not take him into your house or welcome him. Anyone who welcomes him shares in his wicked work.

Corinthians 11:13-15 For such men are false apostles, deceitful workmen, masquerading as apostles of Christ. And no wonder, for Satan himself masquerades as an angel of light. It is not surprising, then, if his servants masquerade as servants of righteousness. Their end will be what their actions deserve.

I'm no longer regularly attending my church. Why? I find double standards within it. Been a member of that church since 1986. My husband grew up in that church. No one has come to our door or called us on the phone to see why we have stopped attending. Church is too big.

I read and study my bible daily, hold conversations with God daily, listen to preachers on TV or radio. Does not make up for my not being with other believers. I understand. However, our dilemma is he wants to go back there and I do not.

Disagreements about Biblical issues started in the early church. Heresies were being put forth as well. The elders created the Roman Creed in the 200s and updated it to the Apostles Creed to state who is and isn't a Christian. Everything outside the Creed is something to agree to disagree with. Going against the creed means going against Christianity. So what issues are you talking about, inside or outside the Creed.

THE APOSTLES CREED
() Not included in earliest manuscripts. This is an upgrade of the Roman Creed created in the 200s. This Creed is dated to 312.

I believe in God the Father Almighty, Maker of Heaven and Earth; And in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead, and buried. (He descended into Hell.) The third day he rose again from the dead. He ascended into Heaven, and sits at the right hand of God the Father Almighty; from there He shall come to judge the living and the dead.

I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy universal church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting.

Amen.

Probable wording of the Roman Creed.

Roman Creed

I believe in God the Father almighty, and in Christ Jesus, his only Son, our Lord, and in the Holy Spirit, the holy Church, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the flesh.

Trying to edit my post hit the too short 5 minute rule since I first edited it to remove all of the white space the site inserts.

Addendum to post.
I have disagreements with every denomination. I am Reformed in my beliefs and attend a Presbyterian PCA church. At 73 I have served as deacon and elder at different times My disagreements are minimul with this denomination.

He that believes on the Son is having everlasting life.

Jesus is the one that begins, finishes and completes the work of faith in us! We are kept by the power of God!
I like the usage of the word "having" Decon....that's truth!

Ive also found that we can claim resurrection life flowing in and through us. Just another way of expressing having everlasting life. That affects us in every way.

What does it mean to "Believe" in someone? The demons believe. Those in Matt. 7 who Jesus didn't know believed.

Luke 6:46 And why call ye me, Lord, Lord, and do not the things which I say?47 Whosoever cometh to me, and heareth my sayings, and doeth them, I will shew you to whom he is like:

Was it this same "Christ" that said:

Lev. 19:34 But the stranger that dwelleth with you shall be unto you as one born among you, and thou shalt love him as thyself; for ye were strangers in the land of Egypt: I am the LORD your God. (The Word which became Flesh)

I asked a question awhile ago and you ignored it so i'll ask again.

Who is this "Jesus" we are to believe in. Is it the Word which became Flesh? The God who gave Abraham His Laws?

Not one to be found when scripture, context, verb tense etc. is taken into accoint.....as a matter of fact, quite the opposite.....eternal, everlasting salvation with a present continuing result from a past COMPLETED ACTION.
What a great way to step around a scripture that you do not like. Scripture, context, verb tense, how bout translation problems, how bout interpretation problems?

I suspect any scripture that is scritinized in this fashion can be made to agree with any salvation theoloty that you wish. Good going.
