Just like the Mormons, I think they believe that ongoing obedience is necessary for salvation. The main focus with SDA seems to be concerning the day of worship, because they believe that Sunday worship is the mark of the beast mentioned in Revelation, and so this drives them to reject Sunday, and some (not all) even condemn others who choose to observe that day.

I may be wrong, but just like the Mormons have a book of mormon and the catholics have the catechism, in addition to the bible, I think the SDA's also have an additional book of Ellen White's teachings, which they refer to also? Otherwise what makes them an SDA if they're not following specific teachings of SDA.

It should be a red flag when a system uses their own book, in addition to the bible. Also, when there is always a person at the forefront of that religious system. For example... SDA-Ellen White, Mormons-Joseph Smith, JW's-Charles Taze Russell, Catholicism-Roman Emperor Constantine. Many more, but just some.
They all confess Yeshua is Lord and Savior.

Did God inspire the KJV translation of the bible?
God does not inspire false teachers.....he did however inspire HOLY MEN to pen the bible as originally written...the King Jimmy is nothing more than a translation/transliteration that has many words skewed and or transilterated with an Anglican twist!

Hebrews 9:27-28 Just as man is destined to die once, and after that to face judgment, so Christ was sacrificed once to take away the sins of many people; and he will appear a second time, not to bear sin, but TO BRING SALVATION to those who are WAITING for him.

Philippians 3:12-16 NOT that I have already OBTAINED all this, or have ALREADY BEEN MADE PERFECT, but I press on to take hold of that for which Christ Jesus took hold of me. Brothers, I do not consider myself yet to have taken hold of it. But one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, I press on toward THE GOAL to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus. All of us who are MATURE should take such a view of things. And if on some point YOU THINK DIFFERENTLY, that too God will make clear to you. Only let us live up to what we have ALREADY ATTAINED.

1 Peter 1:9 for you are receiving THE GOAL OF YOUR FAITH, the SALVATION of your souls.

SALVATION IS THE GOAL OF THOSE WHO ARE WAITING FOR HIM, THE CHURCH WHICH IS THE BODY OF CHRIST OF WHICH HE IS THE SAVIOR.

OSAS IS A FALSE MANMADE DOCTRINE THAT NULLIFIES THE WORD OF GOD.

Mark 7:6-13 He replied, “Isaiah was right when he prophesied about you hypocrites; as it is written: “‘These people honor me with their lips, but their hearts are far from me. They worship me in vain; their teachings are but rules taught by men.’ You have let go of the commands of God and are holding on to the traditions of men.” And he said to them: “YOU HAVE A FINE WAY OF SETTING ASIDE THE COMMANDS OF GOD in order to observe your own traditions! For Moses said, ‘Honor your father and your mother,’ and, ‘Anyone who curses his father or mother must be put to death.’ But you say that if a man says to his father or mother: ‘Whatever help you might otherwise have received from me is Corban’ (that is, a gift devoted to God), then YOU NO LONGER LET HIM DO ANYTHING for his father or mother. THUS YOU NULLIFY THE WORD OF GOD by your tradition that you have handed down. AND YOU DO MANY THINGS LIKE THAT.”

JESUS SAID;

“If you love me, you will obey what I command.” john 14:15

…” If you want to enter life, obey the commandments.”matthew 19:17

“ Whoever has my commands and obeys them, he is the one who loves me. He who loves me will be loved by my Father, and I too will love him and show myself to him.” Then Judas (not Judas Iscariot) said, “But, Lord, why do you intend to show yourself to us and not to the world?” Jesus replied, “If anyone loves me, he will obey my teaching. My Father will love him, and we will come to him and make our home with him. He who does not love me will not obey my teaching. These words you hear are not my own; they belong to the Father who sent me.” john 14:21-24

THIS FALSE MANMADE DOCTRINE TEACHES THAT OBEDIENCE TO GOD IS JUST A WORK THAT MAN CAN DO BUT HAVE NO PART, NEITHER ESSENTIAL NOR NECESSARY FOR SALVATION WHICH CONTRADICTS THE FF:

Hebrews 5:7-9 During the days of Jesus’ life on earth, he offered up prayers and petitions with loud cries and tears to the one who could save him from death, and he was heard because of his reverent submission. Although he was a son, he learned obedience from what he suffered and, once made perfect, he became the source of ETERNAL SALVATION FOR ALL WHO OBEY HIM.

A QUOTE FROM ElAmor’s POST

2 John 1:4-11 It has given me great joy to find some of your children WALKING IN THE TRUTH, just as the Father COMMANDED US. And now, dear lady, I am not writing you a new command but one we have had FROM THE BEGINNING. I ask that we love one another. And this is love: that we WALK IN OBEDIENCE TO HIS COMMANDS. As you have heard from the beginning, his command is that you WALK IN LOVE. Many DECEIVERS, who do not acknowledge Jesus Christ as COMING IN THE FLESH, have gone out into the world. Any such person is the DECEIVER and the ANTICHRIST. Watch out that you do not lose what you have worked for, but that you may be rewarded fully. Anyone who RUNS AHEAD and DOES NOT CONTINUE in the TEACHING OF CHRIST does not have God; whoever continues in the teaching has both the Father and the Son. If anyone comes to you and does not bring this teaching, do not take him into your house or welcome him. Anyone who welcomes him SHARES IN HIS WICKED WORK.

Who are those RUNNING AHEAD and DOES NOT CONTINUE IN THE TEACHING OF CHRIST?

They are those who CLAIM SALVATION is by Faith ALONE and ONCE SAVED they are ALWAYS SAVED therefore rejecting God’s Laws and commands which are in fact God’s own words. says that even obedience to God cannot save anyone because they are works and Faith ALONE saves.

Who then is the deceiver and the ANTICHRIST?

They are those who do not continue in the teaching about WALKING IN LOVE which is WALKING IN OBEDIENCE TO HIS COMMANDS. Who do not acknowledge Jesus as coming in the flesh by the mere fact that they reject the LAW that prophesied about Jesus as coming in the flesh.

1 John 2:1-6 My dear children, I write this to you so that you will not sin. But if anybody does sin, we have one who speaks to the Father in our defense—Jesus Christ, the Righteous One. He is the atoning sacrifice for our sins, and not only for ours but also for the sins of the whole world. We know that we have come to know him if we obey his commands. THE MAN WHO SAYS, “I KNOW HIM,” BUT DOES NOT DO WHAT HE COMMANDS IS A LIAR, AND THE TRUTH IS NOT IN HIM. But if anyone obeys his word, God’s love is truly made complete in him. This is how we know we are in him: Whoever claims to live in him MUST WALK AS JESUS DID.

WE ARE TO WORK OUT OUR OWN SALVATION NOT AS INDIVIDUALS WORKING FOR HIS OWN SALVATION BUT AS ONE BODY IN CHRIST(eph 4:1-16) WORKING AS GOOD AND FAITHFUL SERVANTS OF GOD(mat 25:14-30) WHO ARE LIVING ACCORDING TO THE SPIRIT AND NOT ACCORDING TO THE SINFUL NATURE.(rom 8:1-17) WE HONOR AND GLORIFY GOD BY THESE WORKS OF LOVE, FAITH AND OBEDIENCE THAT BEARS GOOD FRUITS THAT WILL LAST..(john 15:6-17)

1 Peter 1:3-7 Praise to God for a living hope Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! In his great mercy he has given us new birth into a LIVING HOPE through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, and into an inheritance that can never perish, spoil or fade—kept in heaven for you, who through faith are shielded by God’s power until the coming of the salvation that is ready to be revealed in the last time. In this you greatly rejoice, though now for a little while you may have had to suffer grief in all kinds of trials. These have come so that your faith—of greater worth than gold, which perishes even though refined by fire—may be PROVED GENUINE and may result in praise, glory and honor when Jesus Christ is revealed.

2 Peter 1:5-11 For this very reason, make every effort to ADD TO YOUR FAITH goodness; and to goodness, knowledge; and to knowledge, self-control; and to self-control, perseverance; and to perseverance, godliness; and to godliness, brotherly kindness; and to brotherly kindness, love. For if you possess these qualities in increasing measure, they will keep you from being INEFFECTIVE and UNPRODUCTIVE in your knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. But if anyone does not have them, he is nearsighted and BLIND, and has forgotten that he has been cleansed from his PAST SINS. Therefore, my brothers, be all the more eager to make your calling and election sure. For if you do these things, you will never fall, and you will receive a rich welcome into the eternal kingdom of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

Revelation 3:1-3 To the Church in Sardis “To the angel of the church in Sardis write: These are the words of him who holds the seven spirits of God and the seven stars. I know your deeds; you have a reputation of being alive, but YOU ARE DEAD. Wake up! Strengthen what remains and is about to die, for I have not found your deeds complete in the sight of my God. Remember, therefore, what you have received and heard; OBEY IT AND REPENT. But if you do not wake up, I will come like a thief, and you will not know at what time I will come to you.

Galatians 6:7-8 DO NOT BE DECEIVED, GOD CANNOT BE MOCKED. A man reaps what he sows. The one who sows to please his sinful nature, from that nature will reap destruction; the one who sows to please the Spirit, from the Spirit will reap eternal life.

John 7:17-18 If anyone chooses to do God’s will, he will find out whether my teaching comes from
God or whether I speak on my own. He who speaks on his own does so to gain honor for himself, but he who works for the honor of the one who sent him is a man of truth; there is nothing false about him.

It's pretty cool.
My wife purchased a bible translation in Thai it's way cool as well....:)

They all confess Yeshua is Lord and Savior.
John 4:23-24: "But the hour is coming, and now is, when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth; for the Father is seeking such to worship Him. God is Spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth.”

There are some who profess to be christian when they've not actually been born of the Spirit. Matthew even tells us that on judgment day many will say "Lord, Lord" and He will then say to them "I never knew you" because they were never His, and He was never their Lord.

Any system that claims to be christian will acknowledge Jesus in some way, even while preaching a different gospel. Saying this, God does get through. There are numerous testimonies of ex priests and ex mormons, etc, who got saved and then left those organizations, because they couldn't continue in a system that teaches a different gospel. As the scriptures also say... what fellowship does light have with darkness, or righteousness with lawlessness...

Constantine didn't set up the Catholic Church but only made Christianity an accepted religion in the Roman Empire. Keep in mind that catholic means universal.

5 minute rule messed up my addition to my reply.

Various denominations have catechisms and other documents. They are a systematic method of approaching the Bible in order to teach what is in the Bible. Each topic has multiple references to Bible verses. They cover what is in the Bible one topic at a time. Much bigger documents are books of systematic theology. In them every verse on each topic is included.

Also most protestant Churches large or small will offer a new believers class called, "Fundamentals of the Faith." It is usually a 12 week course given Sunday morning either before or after the main worship service. It is usually small in number maybe 4 to 12 people so that there is a lot of interaction, and it covers a wide variety of subjects. Baptism is offered as well. I found this class to be of great value to my new faith in Jesus Christ.

Ah, baptism. There is a can of worms. There are three modes (or methods) of water baptism used in Christian churches today: immersion (in which the person is completely submerged), affusion (that is, pouring), and aspersion (sprinkling). Different denominations accept only some types. Baptists usually only accept immersion. Absolutely no verses in the Bible define how it is to be done. The argument goes to the root word in Koine Greek. First which word and then it's definition. Round and round the argument goes with no resolution in sight.

I made my point in post #59166.

Many profess to be christians, but this title means nothing. Unless one is born again he cannot enter the Kingdom of God. The professing christians are mentioned in Matthew... we're told on judgment day that they will hear those sad words "I never knew you" because they were never His. They never had faith in the finished work of Jesus to save them... instead they tried to add to His work, evident when they say "did we not...." (they point to their works).

Catholicism teaches a different gospel, and those who attend are sadly kept in bondage to that system, because they trust the authority and teachings of that church, which goes against the scriptures. Most (if not all) catholics don't ever read the bible, they just nod and agree with anything the priest says, because they go by sight.... to them he looks holy and they don't believe he could be wrong. But as Paul says, don't trust appearances, but rather what does the person preach. If it's any other gospel, then let them be accursed.

As I said in my other post, there are plenty of testimonies of ex catholics, ex mormons, etc, who got saved and then left those religions, because they couldn't continue in a system that teaches a different gospel. I read the testimony of one ex priest who was convicted after reading Hebrews 10, which spoke to him personally.... the priests offering repeatedly the same sacrifices, which can never take away sin, but that Jesus offered ONE sacrifice for sins forever, and by that one offering has perfected FOREVER those who are being sanctified. He struggled to forgive himself for giving out that eucharist, and he also left that church.

My family grew up as catholics and I went to a convent school when I was little. I've also been to catholic services to take notes on their teachings, which filled pages that do not line up with the scriptures. I once spoke with a priest who rejected the gospel and called it "baloney".

As for Constantine... yes he did lift the ban on christianity, but he was pagan and held onto those pagan beliefs, so the church he promoted ended up being a mix of christianity and paganism. I believe this was to keep control of the people, enticing them to christianity, while allowing them to hold onto their paganism, so a merging of the two. So the paganism was "christianized". Just two examples... the worship of the woman aka "queen of Heaven"/Isis just got renamed Mary. The Romans also believed in many Gods, like a God of peace, a God of strength, etc. Interesting is this was introduced in the catholic church as Patron saints, each of them would assist you for different needs, so prayers to saint x for healing, or to saint y for help finding a job, etc.

The point I was making is that the catholic church is a manmade religion with a person at the forefront of it. No idea who the first bishop of that church was, but Constantine was very instrumental in how it began with it's mix of christianity and paganism.

Maybe Dcon can help with church history, since he studied it in seminary.

I know what you mean... sometimes deleting and starting over is easier than racing against the clock, lol :)

Well, I don't trust any other book than the bible. And everything should be tested against the scriptures.

The catholic catechism, for example, contradicts the scriptures. And to me, any church that has its own book I always see as a red flag.

2 Timothy 3:13-17: But evil men and impostors will grow worse and worse, deceiving and being deceived. But you must continue in the things which you have learned and been assured of, knowing from whom you have learned them, and that from childhood you have known the Holy Scriptures, which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus. All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work"

The can of worms is the disagreement over the method. Also denominations not accepting baptism by other churches. Explain to me why I had to be baptized by immersion in three different churches. I lived the can of worms around it. There are churches that don't accept baptism from other churches. Why??? I was thrilled in my first baptism but my second and third baptisms were not a beautiful ceremony.

You seem unable to understand this issue.

Without a book like a systematic theology how do you read and understand a theological issue looking at ALL verses on the issue?? Without a book like a systematic theology that is IMPOSSIBLE TO DO!! You tell me how you do it. I'm waiting for you to respond.

There is a difference between denominational distinctives and not being Biblical. The Apostles Creed defines what a Christian must believe. All other issues are agree to disagree. You obviously believe a difference of opinion makes the other person non Biblical.

Who are you to label 7777pinacled as a false witness. Are you claiming some esoteric knowledge in this matter? Are you suggesting that you are aware of the heart of decon to a degree that you would "report" another members false view of decon? I suggest you stop being so judgemental about such matters. Reporting someone is something you should do only in cases of obvious slander not opinion.

Catechisms are a method of teaching the Bible in an organized way. Your rejection of everything except the Bible makes you prone to error by not knowing every verse on an issue. It means you have to read the whole Bible every time you study an issue. I even use Google to find pertinent verses. The text of the Bible is the word of God but finding the texts to read requires help to find every verse on an issue. You obviously have an inability to find all verses on a topic and think that is just fine!!!

In case you don't get it I totally disagree with your approach. Bible aids are just that. Aids that help finding the applicable verses. Where is the great commission? Where is the verse where Jesus states, "I and the Father are one"? I use Bible helps to find them. Google works great. I'm 73 and when I was a teen going into 20s I got very frustrated with the books I had access to in order to find the pertinent scripture I needed to find. The small topical index was too small to have in it where to find verses on topics I wanted to study.

Here is an issue that I have had to deal with. There are three modes (or methods) of water baptism used in Christian churches today: immersion (in which the person is completely submerged), affusion (that is, pouring), and aspersion (sprinkling). Which is Biblical? Which is not? Have fun trying to look up this only using the Bible to find the applicable verses!!

Mormons do not say that Jesus was just a good man. He is ONE among MANY gods, in fact they consider that Lucifer is a god too, and so is his Brother, Jesus.

Jerald and Sandra Tanner, were raised in the Mormon Church, and were later converted to Christianity. They began a ministry where they reached out to Mormons, to share the TRUTH about God and the MANY Errors in Mormonism. After her husband died, she continued the Ministry. This Pamphlet was around since at least the early 80s, and was converted to Computer format, and is entitled "TERMINOLOGY DIFFERENCE". READ THROUGH THIS PAMPHLET FIRST, before you go to the attached video. WHEN YOU SEE THE "TERMINOLOGY DIFFERENCE" that the TANNERS had first hand knowledge of, you will know that the video on by Jeremiah Films is telling you the TRUTH. With this first hand knowledge you will see that the Mormon Church is an Anti-christ religion, or as they like to call themselves the "Ladder Day Saints".

Terminology Differences (Main)

Jeremiah Films has been putting out Christian based editorials and films.

Wikipedia: "Jeremiah Films is a media production and distribution company. The organization was founded by Patrick Matrisciana in 1978. As of 2012, they are based in Jacksonville Beach, Florida. Jeremiah Films produces videos that the group says "promote patriotism, traditional values, and the Biblical worldview of [the] founding fathers"[SUP][1][/SUP] of the United States. It has produced films that investigate subjects as varied as terrorism, paganism, evolution, Mormonism, Seventh-day Adventism, abortion, Halloween, Islam, Christianity, Cults, the occult, Jim Jones, Jehovah's Witness,
. . .

Another noteworthy title is The God Makers film, released in 1982, along with its sequel The God Makers II released five years later."
