Back to the OP, after this digression by someone from Canada! (How embarrassing!)
I totally agree with Romans 5:3-5, in modern English, but I do NOT think it tells us to look for suffering.
Rather, the verse tells us that no matter what we suffer, God is with us, gives us hope, changes us and we can REJOICE that Jesus has brought us reconciliation through the cross of Christ.
"Therefore, since we have been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ. 2 Through him we have also obtained access by fait into this grace in which we stand, and we rejoice in hope of the glory of God. 3 Not only that, but we rejoice in our sufferings, knowing that suffering produces endurance, 4 and endurance produces character, and character produces hope, 5 and hope does not put us to shame, because God's love has been poured into our hearts through the Holy Spirit who has been given to us.6 For while we were still weak, at the right time Christ died for the ungodly. 7 For one will scarcely die for a righteous person—though perhaps for a good person one would dare even to die— 8 but God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us. 9 Since, therefore, we have now been justified by his blood, much more shall we be saved by him from the wrath of God. 10 For if while we were enemies we were reconciled to God by the death of his Son, much more, now that we are reconciled, shall we be saved by his life. 11 More than that, we also rejoice in God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have now received reconciliation."Romans 5:1-11 NET
Reality tells us living in a fallen world, we will suffer. There are trials and tribulations to go through. That might well include going to a Muslim country to share the gospel, and be killed for it.
It might be the loss of family, financial reverses or sickness. And of course, the long term tribulation is death. Notice the next verse after the one above.
"Therefore, just as sin came into the world through one man, and death through sin, and so death spread to all men because all sinned—" Romans 5:12 NET
I do not believe God wants us to purposely suffer. In other words, become a victim. Instead, we suffer because we live in this world, but what a hope and joy we have in Jesus Christ! Suffering for suffering's sake is certainly NOT what this passage is talking about.
I know I have suffered physically for over 20 years. But God has used that to change my character, and to find that I can rejoice every day, not because of suffering, but because God has turned my mourning into dancing, and I can rejoice in God through our Lord Jesus Christ.
But there is a difference between God allowing us to suffer, and choosing to suffer for no reason. Again, dangerous mission work is certainly an important exception! But since the OP seems to say she has always suffered, I doubt she is talking about a future plan to evangelize Muslims.
