If you don't quench the Spirit-1 Thessalonians 5:19 He will complete what he began in you. You have to LET God work the works of the saved person in you. You have to yield to the impulse of the Spirit to walk in obedience. It's not an automatic thing. You are able to quench the Spirit. He did not take that away from the believer. The more you do that the more you'll be able to do it. Just like any child who gets better at doing things as he does them.
Here's where I personally differ: If I can quench the Spirit that means I have the Spirit. And if I have the Spirit I am saved in Christ. We are told to not quench the Spirit, but why would we want to? If we do it's because we don't realize how good and kind God is in that area. And as we discover this we are eagerly and cheerfully lead into new levels of repentance.

Starting at John 2:14 In the temple courts He found men selling cattle, sheep, and doves, and money changers seated at their tables. So He made a whip out of cords and drove all from the temple courts, both sheep and cattle. He poured out the coins of the money changers and overturned their tables. To those selling doves He said, “Get these out of here! How dare you turn My Father’s house into a marketplace!”
Yep.....my reference....Matthew 21 Jesus entered the temple and drove out all those who were buying and selling in the temple, and overturned the tables of the money changers and the seats of those who were selling doves ......... ;)

i can't seem to find this quotation in the scripture.
everywhere i look, the condition is if God is faithful - and the overwhelmingly obvious and clear truth is that He most certainly is !!!

so post, crucified with Him, straight dead to sin, the world and to the law that bound him, rejoices in gratefulness, alive to God :)

It is the apex of arrogance for any man to think he let God do anything...

What is quenching the Spirit? And why would we want to?

Because we are arrogant and proud as humans. We want to think that we can do it on our own.

Quenching the Spirit is saying," I got this one, I can do it and can do it really well."

Quenching the Spirit is what most of us do HABITUALLY. We go our own 'good' way and quench the DIVINE good that the Spirit directs us in.

99% of us have it figured out that we shouldn't grieve the Spirit(live in sin.) We think we become 'successful' in this area and move onto quenching the Spirit in our own 'good.'

Well in this case, silliness denied because unicorns whatever creature they may be "are mentioned in the bible and so are real".

Unicorn is mentioned 9 times in the OT. And the definition is:

[h=1]H7214[/h]
רֵם רֵים רְאֵים רְאֵם
re'êm re'êym rêym rêm
reh-ame', reh-ame', rame, rame
From H7213; a wild bull (from its conspicuousness): - unicorn.
Total KJV occurrences: 9

and is this really important? Of course I didn't see the conversation so maybe it was.

Exactly. We want to do it on our own because we don't believe God is good in that area. So we feel like we need to pick up His slack. This comes from our "past personal experiences" or just simply observations in the world. We create an idea of who God is and who we need to be in response. Then we live from that role. This is why out of the heart flows all the issues of life. Shifting this is where "renewing the mind" comes in play. As we EXPERIENTIALLY (Think testimonies here) discover His goodness and kindness we seek repentance which is following His ways and seeking Him as our Rewarder. (Faith).

is there a contradiction in the Bible or not?

a man is justified by works and not by faith alone
(James 2:24)

But to the one who does not work, but believes in Him who justifies the ungodly, his faith is credited as righteousness

(Romans 4:5)

if there's not, which one of these is being misrepresented by stripping it from its context?
The context of James 2:24 is a background of confronting the error of faith only theology. James was teaching against the nonsense of faith alone theology. This is why he wrote "faith alone".

The context of Romans 4:5 is an issue of Judaizers attempting to teach the need for Old Testament laws in the life of Christians in addition to the commands of Christ. This is why he did not write "faith alone".

James clearly states faith by itself is useless.
Paul clearly states that circumcision is useless.

I hope this answers your question.

There was a word in a post that is totally wrong. Jesus was not a psychic. That is someone who calls demons up to tell of events in a persons life.

please tell me that this isn't accepted in the forum here. I was told it's been used before. It is not of Holy Spirit.

Surprised the workers for, sinless perfectionists and Pharisees are not bombing the thread with their rigmarole.......hahhahahhahaHhha
Maybe their just watching or laughing while reading you guys post and arguing about certain sins which are works of evil or of the devil then later on say that works of any sort have no bearing on salvation or they are not even required and then attack those who are teaching obedience to God's laws and commandments just to make yourselves feel more superior in the knowledge of the Gospel or for whatever reason you guys are so afraid to admit.

Here's just one truth regarding your topic:

Romans 12:9-21 LOVE MUST BE SINCERE. HATE WHAT IS EVIL, CLING TO WHAT IS GOOD. Be devoted to one another in brotherly love. Honor one another above yourselves. Never be lacking in zeal, but keep your spiritual fervor, serving the Lord. Be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, faithful in prayer. Share with God’s people who are in need. Practice hospitality. Bless those who persecute you; bless and do not curse. Rejoice with those who rejoice; mourn with those who mourn. Live in harmony with one another. Do not be proud, but be willing to associate with people of low position. Do not be conceited. Do not repay anyone evil for evil. Be careful to do what is right in the eyes of everybody. If it is possible, as far as it depends on you, live at peace with everyone. Do not take revenge, my friends, but leave room for God’s wrath, for it is written: “It is mine to avenge; I will repay,” says the Lord. On the contrary: “If your enemy is hungry, feed him; if he is thirsty, give him something to drink. In doing this, you will heap burning coals on his head, DO NOT BE OVERCOME BY EVIL, BUT OVERCOME EVIL WITH GOOD.

1 Corinthians 5:1-13 expel the Immoral Brother! It is actually reported that there is sexual immorality among you, and of a kind that does not occur even among pagans: A man has his father’s wife. And you are proud! Shouldn’t you rather have been filled with grief and have put out of your fellowship the man who did this? Even though I am not physically present, I am with you in spirit. And I have already passed judgment on the one who did this, just as if I were present. When you are assembled in the name of our Lord Jesus and I am with you in spirit, and the power of our Lord Jesus is present, hand this man over to Satan, so that the sinful nature may be destroyed and his spirit saved on the day of the Lord. Your boasting is not good. Don’t you know that a little yeast works through the whole batch of dough? Get rid of the old yeast that you may be a new batch without yeast—as you really are. For Christ, our Passover lamb, has been sacrificed. Therefore let us keep the Festival, not with the old yeast, the yeast of malice and wickedness, but with bread without yeast, the bread of sincerity and truth. I have written you in my letter not to associate with sexually immoral people— not at all meaning the people of this world who are immoral, or the greedy and swindlers, or idolaters. In that case you would have to leave this world. But now I am writing you that you must not associate with anyone who calls himself a brother but is sexually immoral or greedy, an idolater or a slanderer, a drunkard or a swindler. With such a man do not even eat. What business is it of mine to judge those outside the church? Are you not to judge those inside? God will judge those outside. “expel the wicked man from among you.”

amen!

i can try & struggle, but that ain't gonna stop the Almighty. i'll find out different soon enough if i get that vain
As believers we can do plenty to stop God. God has His highest and best planned for us. If we don't follow His plan for our lives, we may end up with a plate full of ashes and being least in His Kingdom.

I agree....and to say one is justified by faith but kept saved by works is about as bright as it comes.....not really!

Anything you say is suspect and leans toward the doubtful and maybe get a grasp on what we actually believe before you bloviate
