Matthew 5:21Ye have heard that it was said of them of old time, Thou shalt not kill; and whosoever shall kill shall be in danger of the judgment:
Well, that's pretty easy. With my carnal understanding and carnal will I can fulfill this law. And we all agree that this law is good.
Matthew 5:22 But I say unto you, That whosoever is angry with his brother without a cause shall be in danger of the judgment: and whosoever shall say to his brother, Raca, shall be in danger of the council: but whosoever shall say, Thou fool, shall be in danger of hell fire.
Uh-oh. This is much harder. I can't do this just by a mere act of my will.
Matthew 5:27 Ye have heard that it was said by them of old time, Thou shalt not commit adultery:
Ok. I can do this with my understanding and my will.
Matthew 5:28 But I say unto you, That whosoever looketh on a woman to lust after her hath committed adultery with her already in his heart.
Ooof. Can't do that one. I'm gonna need the Lord Jesus Christ and His Holy Spirit for this.
Matthew 5:43 Ye have heard that it hath been said, Thou shalt love thy neighbour, and hate thine enemy.
No problem. I can do that.
Matthew 5:44 But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you;
Can't do that without the Lord Jesus Christ and the Holy Spirit.
Matthew 5:48 Be ye therefore perfect, even as your Father which is in heaven is perfect.
Just in case you thought you were super awesome and could do what no one else could there's this one.
Only God is good. You cannot be perfect like God is Perfect. Not without the Lord Jesus Christ and the Holy Spirit.
You can try really hard and argue with the whole planet. But its not going to help you. Words in a book can't get you there. You only have one choice if you want to be perfected.
Hebrews 7:18-19
18 For there is verily a disannulling of the commandment going before for the weakness and unprofitableness thereof.
19 For the law made nothing perfect, but the bringing in of a better hope did; by the which we draw nigh unto God.
Hebrew 7 is of course speaking to the Levitical Priesthood. You posting it as support of your preaching against God's Commandments is dishonest.
And you make no sense. If God's Commandments don't make us perfect, then why was Jesus considered perfect for following them?
If God's Commandments don't make us perfect, then why does He write them on our hearts?
In Matthew 5 you cleverly omit scriptures that shed light on the meaning of Christ's Words just like you left out the important Biblical fact that Hebrews 7 is talking about the Levitical Priesthood, not God's 10 Commandments.
Matt. 5:
17 Think not that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets: I am not come to destroy, but to fulfil.
18 For verily I say unto you,
Till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law, till all be fulfilled.
20 For I say unto you, That except your righteousness shall exceed
the righteousness of the scribes and Pharisees, ye shall in no case enter into the kingdom of heaven.
He is speaking about the mainstream preachers of His time and before.
21 Ye have heard that it was said by them of old time, Thou shalt not kill; and whosoever shall kill shall be in danger of the judgment:
22 But
I say unto you, That whosoever is
angry with his brother without a cause shall be in danger of the judgment.
I hear you guys always trying to defend your traditions by saying "See, Jesus changed God's Laws". But the Book you preach "Won't get us there" teaches something different.
Lev. 19:
17 Thou shalt not hate thy brother in thine heart: thou shalt in any wise rebuke thy neighbour, and not suffer sin upon him.
I can go down the list you posted from Matt. 5 and show where Jesus, before becoming a man, taught all these things in the Old Testament. But the mainstream preachers of the Old Testament were not teaching these truths. That is why God sent them Prophets, which they rejected and killed.
Truly when He says "But I SAY" He is speaking to His Word in the Law and Prophets.
Matt. 23:
23 Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye pay tithe of mint and anise and cummin, and have
omitted the weightier matters of the law, judgment, mercy, and faith:
these ought ye to have done,
and not to leave the other undone.
In other words,
"You have heard it said by those of old time we must pay tithe of mint and anise and cumin, but I say, you should ALSO follow God's Law where mercy, judgment and Faith are concerned.
We are to have have Faith in this Jesus.
2 Tim.
14 But continue thou in the things which thou hast learned and hast been assured of,
knowing of whom thou hast learned them; From God's Word, or from Man's word?
15 And that from a child thou hast known the holy scriptures, which are able to make thee wise unto salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus.
What was the only scriptures available to these people, certainly as children?
16 All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and
is profitable
for doctrine,
for reproof,
for correction,
for instruction in righteousness:
17 That the man of God may be perfect, throughly furnished unto all good works.
It is a self deception to declare Faith in the Jesus of the Bible and reject His Words(the Book you preach won't get us there) and instructions He said He created for man.
