I've got an older Mossberg pump that has the 20" barrel with full length mag tube. Came with a pistol grip as an attachment, but I've never had it on it IIRC. No choke, holds about a half a box of shells in it... well, actually, only about 8.... or 6, I think, if using 3" thumpers.
It's been dead reliable, with minimal maintenance. I clean it when I get bored with everything else... not a great policy, but I'm lazy.
Worked pretty well when pheasant hunting in Iowa about 16 or 17 years ago. I did get a few "raised eyebrows" when I brought it out of the case. "you gonna use a riot gun for pheasant?" It was the only shotgun I had at the time. The other guys were carrying Browning over/unders, and Winchester 21's.... I suppose I looked a little bit red-neck...
AHAHAH nothing wrong with that...one of the "killinest" weapons I have is a Mossberg Model 500 YOUTH 20 guage that came with three chokes....rabbit, doves, chucker, quail, pheasants, deer, squirrels have all been dropped by that gun....worked 8 hours for it......
Same here in Missouri....we have open and concealed carry without a permit.....
Didn't open and concealed carry WITHOUT A PERMIT just recently become law in Missouri? I have always owned rifles and shotguns but am looking to buy my first handgun this year around Christmas time. I wanted to start with a 9mm. Any suggestions on a good 9mm that is well balanced and accurate that I can conceal? Best bang for your buck category.

I'm going to tout Glock because it's what I own. Mine is a Glock 26, which some men might find small, but I'm a manlet with small hands, so it works for me.
Thanks. I've heard many good things about Glock's. Is it true that they don't have a safety? My hands are somewhat large, so I'm needing a handgun that is not too small, but is still comfortable to conceal and carry.
If money is a concern, your best bet is probably a Taurus PT 111. It is the same size as a Glock 26 and all the other subcompact guns that size, but it is well less than $300. I got mine for $225 from a friendly gundealer. You can get them cheaper from Gunbroker.com but you have to pay transfer fees and shipping. It is as accurate as anything else its size, which means more accurate than you most likely. LOL
I got a laser from amazon for $14, if I remember correctly, which should come in handy if I ever really have to use the thing.
But if not, the gun is not too big or heavy to carry around with me all the time ... even to church.
Thanks. I'll check it out too. I've seen Taurus handguns, along with Glock, Smith & Wesson and Ruger etc.. at Bass Pro Shops. Their handguns are a bit pricy, unless you catch a good sale. I deliver mail to a gunsmith who says he can get me a good deal.

Yes and No. There is a trigger blade that is supposed to be a safety device, but aside from that, the only safety is "keep your finger straight and off the trigger until you're ready to fire". The trigger blade is supposed to function (I am conjecturing here) as a "drop safety".
My Dad is a much larger man than I am, and he has a Glock 26 also, but all his magazines have a different floor plate on them that allows him to grip the weapon with his much larger hands and do so comfortably.
I have a 9mm Kahr I purchased from an officer who used it as a backup until his department changed calibers, it is a solid little piece. The Taurus mentioned here has a good track record from owners I have heard from here and elsewhere. The Glock can use a "trigger block" device that is inserted behind the trigger and is easily pushed out while drawing in the event of need.
A good pocket holster or other style holster can cover the trigger while holstered for added safety, but then I have not heard of any "accidents" from the trigger blade safety only design. A good friend of mine and his wife carry Glocks, he tells me " they have a spongy trigger, bad sights, are blocky shape, and go bang every time".
Must self defense handgun shots are 25 ft or closer, the little guns seem sufficient for this.

It has been a year or so since he law passed....umm....I pack a Ruger 9......has both thumb safety and safety in trigger....will not fire even if dropped with one in chamber, holds 16 plus 1, shoots nice, very accurate, thin enough to carry concealed yet decent size for your hand.....around $350 or so.......
Hey now! Camels are dangerous animals! They have great aim when spitting! No need for a scope, they have great eyesight! They also come with a built in canteen!
I second the motion for the Taurus PT111 G2.... mine has been flawless, and it is ergonomically perfect for me... I have sort of big hands, but short fingers... (no sly remarks needed, thank you very much) This pistol holds 12 rounds of 9mm...
I also like the Ruger 9E...the economy version of the SR9... it's a little larger, but should conceal very easily. It has a really good feel to it, but I have never gotten to shoot one. The trigger is not quite as nice as my PT111, but it's still not bad at all. I think they hold 17 rounds.
The Smith and Wesson SD9VE is a pretty nice "economy" pistol. It's about the same size as the Ruger SR9... I've heard many good reports about it.
Each of those should be under $300....
