To me it sounds like everything he said is okay.
Also, you said works will be burned up and faith will stand.
Yeah, we must have faith.
But James said that faith without works is dead.
A dead faith equals no faith.
James 2:17
If our faith is dead, how could we possibly be saved?

I just said that the other person could say the same.
