My heat pad does help my sore back, but sticking my cold hand on my back also helps. Summer is coming, so no way I'm going to use a heat pad when I'm already hot. And between our freezer being small and using frozen veggies on my back doesn't last long enough to bother with, does anyone know if they've invented a heat pad/cold pad yet? Something that can be plugged in and turn on heat or cold? If not, is there such a thing as a cold pad of the mechanical variety? (The ice melts too quickly too, even if I could use ice cubes.)

There are all kinds of hot and cold packs. Look on walmart.com. They probably have something..

Yes. I used a chilled water recirculator on my knee operation.

You mean something to walk around with?
When I googled your phrase, I found industrial systems. (Probably things to cool down sheet steel grinders.) Walking around ones? I didn't even think that far. I usually am sitting when my back demands attention.

But Ricky knew enough to google an example of what you were talking about, so, at least I know the words to use to google now.

I just didn't know what to call them to google them, so I'm good now. Thanks.

Great suggestion Ladybug!

Lynn, I use the gel reusable cold compress for my back. They lay flat so they take up little room in your freezer. You should probably get at least 2 of
them because they take 2 hours to refreeze. It's probably about 7" by 12". I got mine at Walmart. Equate reusable cold compress is what they're called.

just a share...

many years ago when our Father led us to a 'book', that most already know, from our 'witness'...
(Jethro Kloss), Back to Eden'..(((READ and LIVE)))...

that is 'truly-seeking' their Heavenly Father's will...

That's actually a pretty good idea. Something that alternates between hot or cold. It doesn't seem like it would be too difficult to invent. You could have hot/cold water flowing to a water bottle so it would alternately heat/cool the device. :)

A google search might turn up this product. I know for sure that you can get disposable cold paks that get cold instantly. Not sure how long they remain cold at an effective level. I have used the disposable hot paks and they worked OK for about 30 minutes.

Hi just an idea, get a hot water bottle but fill it with freezing cold water.

Miri,

you are very wise, 'hot and then cold' compresses' are such an age-old-natural-remedy,
that it's almost funny, expect for the pain and healing that it brings...:)

Miri,

this is an age-old, bona-fide-remedy, for intense healing of many 'gut' problems...
you seem to have a natural-born, gift for the knowledge of such..,

for the 'many of you who don't know about this amazing, God-given-remedy',
do your 'RESEARCH'...
GBY...

Ha ha not really.

I sometimes take a freeing hot water bottle to bed in summer to put my
feet on, then kick it out when it warms up. Lol

You mean something that instantly switches? or just that can be used for both?

There are gel bags that you can put in the fridge or heat in the microwave depending on whether you want them cold or hot. I had one that was simply called ColdHot :p

You can fill a hot water bottles with hot or cold water - both would be luke warm.

I wonder why they call it luke warm, maybe Luke had some problems!
