Yep, so far I've been pretty good at avoiding thoroughly dangerous areas, but you never know. It may be that next cycle I'll have an awesome gig in a district that touches a real dump.

If that happens, I'm getting my body armor and a shotgun, because my AR isn't legal in most dumps. :p Imagine that...
I went deer hunting with my daughter this year in Minnesota. For some weird reason they require shotguns be used and not bolt action high powered rifles.

So I found out that you can get rifled slugs for your smooth bore shotgun. And you can aim with the bead just like usual. I could hit a pie plate out to 50yds. Something to look into. They were inexpensive as well.

I was talking to dad on the phone earlier today, and he told me that in all his years of trucking he did something that he had never done before; slept in a hotel. Reason was, he was in downtown Chicago and didn't have a gun.

Thanks! I definitely will. Get a good pair'a sights on that and you have a pretty diverse piece of machinery.

And what a stupid law! Gosh. You have to wonder how people come up with these things.

Slugs here in Iowa, handguns recently allowed, reason given is the population density is such we don't want projectiles that travel that far over hills.
We teach our kids in Hunters Safety they are responsible for where that slug goes, they own it before and after they fire it, so don't shoot over a hill.
Slug technology has increased tremendously, sabots are available now that are amazing in performance.

What I was saying is that you can also buy rifled shotgun barrels from several manufacturers, and I've read reports of almost minute of angle accuracy at 100 yards with them. Many of them come with cantilevered scope mounts...

Also, if you want to keep your smoothbore barrel, you can buy ghost ring sights for it, which greatly improves the accuracy of most shotguns...

Shotguns have become pretty high tech, for a low-tech kind of gun...

They aren't that expensive either, the rifled shotgun barrel with the scope. I priced them before I went hunting and they were about $130 at cabelas and they came with the scope and mount.

The rifled slugs for use in the smooth barrel at about $3.50 a box was a lot easier and cheaper solution for me. Plus we don't have a Cabelas where I live. I know, why bother living where there is no Cabelas.... I procrastinated so didn't have time to order a rifled barrel through the mail. Of course.

We were north of Alexandria and still had to use shotguns.

But I think a mile west or north and we could have used rifles.

Plus, it was my first time hunting deer from a stand. It was kind of weird. But I was with my daughter so it was fun. I'm hoping to take her to Montana to show her how we REALLY do it.
