I don't know about that specific situation but it can be both... If you are gifted with healing gifts, God can inspire you to use them---in love--not to prove your power...

True, 40+ years here as well. It helps to fulfill the destiny He has for each of us. It is in obedience to His direction for our lives.

While talking/praying in tongues you can receive revelation and insight---it will also build up your faith--strengthen your inner man---you are communing with God about things you don't even know how to express in English---I've tried it for 40 years---I believe in strong Bible education and knowledge---but things in the Spirit have to be experienced (tested)---it is awesome...
delusion....

no, not at all.
There was no cessation
Jesus was clear that in the last days "they will have an outward form but deny the power thereof".
Growing in His gifts are how the "greater works than these shall they do" are to take place.
He never forces Himself on anyone, if you wish to stop at mere "fire insurance" you will stop there.
He will grow any of us as much as we will be willing to grow in Him.

Well as I just now saw your question I will say what benefit I see.
The enemy cannot do ANYTHING against it as its by the spirit and not by the flesh.
Tadaa :)

Delia Knox Brain Injury, Not Spine Injury

"I've been searching for hours, and it appears Delia Knox has never publicly stated that her spine was damaged. In fact, she refuses to discuss the nature of her injury, she refuses to release her medical records relating to the injury, and she won't allow her doctor or physical therapist to be interviewed. Not quite full disclosure, and many would say that a lie of omission is still a lie. (Fast forward to :40 if you're impatient)"

Please post your own medical records on the forum while you are at it. If someone gets healed, does that mean they can't have any privacy over something personal like medical records?

Btw, show me the medical records for people the apostles healed.

Do you think the woman just pretended to not be able to use her legs....since 1987?

This thread is thirty four pages long and no one has answered the question.

What is the benefit of speaking in tongues? I can see absolutely no reason for God to use them.
You must've skipped page 12, I have two posts describing such benefits. :)

I did explain that. Holy Spirit guiding your prayers. This means that you are praying with the advantage of God's sovereignty and His divine intervention. He guides your spirit to pray things you have no idea you should be praying about. In regular prayer without tongues one is praying only of what they do know, and even then that is so very small in comparison to God's wealth of knowledge and omniscience.

Besides that, another benefit of tongues as opposed to regular prayer is a matter of trusting the Holy Spirit. You must have an understanding that He has your best interest in mind, in order for you to just relinquish your prayers to His discretion. You are surrendering to God's will in a way, and He is orchestrating things on your behalf (including for others). So again, in this respect you submit to God's sovereignty.

I don't think its a matter of comparing the two, praying in the Spirit as opposed to praying with understanding. The apostle Paul endorsed both. As we should. To compare is irrelevant but to dismiss the advantage and usefulness of tongues is to dismiss the fact that God in His wisdom saw the gift as something He felt the body of Christ needed in order to equip them. If God saw it as something He desired to gift us with, it is clear there is edification and usefulness involved.

the spirit guides you when you pray in your own language.
it is a matter of comparing the 2, if one is no different than the other than whats the point?
how can you say "advantage and usefulness of tongues" when every benefit of them mentioned so far can be accomplished with praying in our own language?
are you seeing yet how they make no sense?
i think the greater benefit is in praying the way Jesus instructs, the one praying understands what they are saying, the Father knows what your saying. the more you talk to your own kids the mnore you get to know them, the closer you are to them, how does one reach a closer relationship to the Father when they dont even know what they are saying to Him?

Thank you for asking these questions and helping me grow in patience and understanding. I go back to my point that God saw it fit, the gift of tongues, to place it amongst the nine gifts of the Spirit. If God saw the gift as a necessity to edify both the believer and fellow brethren who are we to disagree because we lack understanding? You ought to at least acknowledge that truth. God saw it fit to equip His saints with this gift thereby qualifying it as useful and beneficial.

Whether I or you can understand or explain its benefits does not negate the fact that God has seen it as beneficial and has equipped His children with it. I just want to make that clear. Our ignorance does not supersede God's providence, and wisdom in distributing the gift of tongues and interpretation for the edification of both oneself and others.

Now, I can attempt to explain the benefits, as I have, but it doesn't seem to me you're all too interested in the benefits as you are disqualifying the gift. If I am wrong on that, forgive me. Lets say that the benefits of tongues can simply be equaled in regular prayer. So what? Then let me pray in tongues ("forbid not to speak with tongues") and let you speak in your native tongue. You have no right, or foundation in scripture to tell me to stop or that I am out of line to be operating in a gift the Lord has granted. The fact that He has granted it reveals its usefulness, in fact it qualifies it (regardless of our ignorance to its edification).

So this isn't a matter of agreeing to disagree. This is a matter of letting me walk as scripture gives me the right to and for you to do as well. If you have no desire to speak in tongues, then don't. I do, and have been equipped to do such. Lets be in unity within the liberty we share.

I literally yelled out, "Stupid!" when I watched his explanation of how "faith healers" grow out legs. .
And what did you yelled out when he performed all the "miracles" typical for the healing preachers, he fell people down by the touch, made their pain go away, made "blind" to "see, "deaf" to hear.

What did you yelled out when he was doing the regular healing show with charismatic Christians and they knew any difference? Well, except for the end, when he said he does not want their money.

And what did you yelled out when Kenneth Copeland falsely used the filled forms with personal data and said these data are from God?

What did you yelled out when Copeland used the longer leg trick on Derren himself? Its on the video.

These are no miracles of God, anybody can perform them. Christians should be ashamed they let others to trick them like this and even give them huge amounts of money. That they could not recognize the truth and fell into self-ilusion how spiritual they are because of such cheap magic tricks.

Correction:

The magic trick performer was WV Grant, Copeland was mentioned in the other part of the video.

i dont dismiss tongues as a foregn language, its the angel tongues im skeptical of as they dont seem to comply with scripture. and unless someone can explain a difference in this method as apposed to the way Jesus prayed my view will not change.

im not saying your wrong, its a false teaching or anything else. if you think it works for you, who am i to tell you different.

The apostle Paul said he sang in the Spirit and prayed in the Spirit. So thats both worship and fellowship. Those terms given the context of the verses they reside is in reference to tongues. You're asking the difference and I am telling you that you aren't controlling what you're saying but God is. He is giving the utterance. I am sure you are not so arrogant as to say you can pray just as perfectly for your life and well-being as God, Himself?

For all that it may be, one might compare it to Pharaoh's sorcerers and their rods and Aaron's rod turning into snakes. Aaron's rod that turned into a snake swallowed their snakes. While there may yet be counterfeits, there then is the reality. God still heals today and is greater than any deception one might attempt to use to discredit Him. His glory shines and if you'd only believe you'd see it and be amazed.

1Cor. 14:20 Brethren, do not be children in your thinking; yet in evil be infants, but in your thinking be mature.

1Cor. 14:22 So then tongues are for a sign, not to those who believe but to unbelievers; but prophecy is for a sign, not to unbelievers but to those who believe.
