she says 3 sentences and he "interprets" it very freely like 15 or more...
Tongues is speaking to God not people. Prophesy is speaking to people. That's why Paul would rather speak prophesy in church. And no one understands tongues, but God.
If tongues was for interpretation of the gospel into many languages, like many like to teach, there would be no need for an interpretation.
1 Co 1:20 to another the working of miracles, to another prophecy, to another distinguishing between spirits, to another speaking in various tongues, and to still another the interpretation of tongues.
Tongues is speaking to God not people. Prophesy is speaking to people. That's why Paul would rather speak prophesy in church. And no one understands tongues, but God.
I disagree. There are 3 Tongues in the Bible which include, Talking to God (as u stated), The Holy Spirit talking to the Church to edify etc., and Worship.
and right at the same time new revelation was no longer given, wouldn't you know it....something more complete came![]()
In the sense of translation of what is spoken. Not meaning "talk freely about what you think it was".
It's okay that you disagree. I don't mind.
The reason I stated what I did:
Talking to God as I stated I would also say is worshiping God. When the Spirit is shown as pouring out the result is tongues magnifying the praises of God. Paul says no one understands, but God. As far as edification? Paul says this is prophesy.
The reason I made this distinction is because the full weight of 1 Co 12-14 is that we would pursue love. Love in regards to spiritual gifts when we are with people is desiring prophesy.
1Earnestly pursue love, and earnestly desire spiritual gifts, and especially that you might prophesy. 2For the one speaking in a tongue speaks not to men, but to God. For no one hears, but in the Spirit he utters mysteries. 3But the one prophesying speaks to men for edification and encouragement and consolation. 4The one speaking in a tongue edifies himself, but the one prophesying edifies the church.
Tongues does build us up in Christ. But prophesy builds others up in Christ.
Paul continues this illustration a little later in the same chapter of 1 Co 14.
23Therefore if the whole church gathers together in one place and all should speak in tongues, but uninstructed ones or unbelievers come in, will not they say that you are mad?
Paul says if we all speak in tongues only - no one understands and so those who don't know better, think we are crazy...
But prophesy is explained differently -
24But if all prophesy, and some unbeliever or uninstructed should come in, he is convicted by all, he is examined by all, 25and the secrets of his heart become manifest. And thus having fallen upon his face, he will worship God, declaring that God is certainly among you.
Prophesy leads people into encounters with the Living God among us.

Actually, can you show me what was the important message for the church in the video?
How were the ones listening to it built spiritually in their lifes by it?

yep and where some people bump heads is interpreted tongues can be prophesy in some cases or also to edify![]()
In 1 Cor 14:5 also it talks about tongues edifying when they are interpreted
5 I would that ye all spake with tongues but rather that ye prophesied: for greater is he that prophesieth than he that speaketh with tongues, except he interpret, that the church may receive edifying.
I dont mind you to disagree either brother![]()
Yes that verse is why I believe that prophesy is tongues interpreted. So in a sense we are saying the same thing, but with a small distinction that I think is important in order to keep the exact truth of Scripture's teachings.
Eph 1:10 That in the dispensation of the fulness of times he might gather together in one all things in Christ, both which are in heaven, and which are on earth; even in him:
Eph 1:11 In whom also we have obtained an inheritance, being predestinated according to the purpose of him who worketh all things after the counsel of his own will:
Eph 1:12 That we should be to the praise of his glory, who first trusted in Christ.
Eph 1:13 In whom ye also trusted, after that ye heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation: in whom also after that ye believed, ye were sealed with that holy Spirit of promise,
Eph 1:14 Which is the earnest of our inheritance until the redemption of the purchased possession, unto the praise of his glory.
Thanksgiving and Prayer
Eph 1:15 Wherefore I also, after I heard of your faith in the Lord Jesus, and love unto all the saints,
Eph 1:16 Cease not to give thanks for you, making mention of you in my prayers;
Eph 1:17 That the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give unto you the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of him:
Eph 1:18 The eyes of your understanding being enlightened; that ye may know what is the hope of his calling, and what the riches of the glory of his inheritance in the saints,
Eph 1:19 And what is the exceeding greatness of his power to us-ward who believe, according to the working of his mighty power,
Eph 1:20 Which he wrought in Christ, when he raised him from the dead, and set him at his own right hand in the heavenly places,
Eph 1:21 Far above all principality, and power, and might, and dominion, and every name that is named, not only in this world, but also in that which is to come:
Eph 1:22 And hath put all things under his feet, and gave him to be the head over all things to the church,
Eph 1:23 Which is his body, the fulness of him that filleth all in all.
Would this not be the completion or the perfect day? This has not yet happened.
I didn't watch the video, I am discussing Scripture. I don't look at what people are doing and are not doing to prove if Scripture is true or not. That would be unbelief.
Scripture teaches tongues is to God. Prophesy is to man. That's what I am focusing on. You can't really have a correct conversation about tongues without prophesy. And then you have that one verse that tells everyone to earnestly desire prophesy. I remember the day I read that. I said, okay God if you say desire it, give me it. I'll take it.

You know what? Better dont watch it...
One thing is to discuss a Scripture and the second thing is to say - "this is what is in the current charismatic movement".
-> In such case we should look on the practice, too, if it is reasonable and biblical.
