Actually permethrin is what they use in dog flea-tick stuff. It's not used in cat flea stuff because cats would ingest it during their self-cleaning cycle. You can spray permethrin in the house even if you have cats though, just make sure it's dry before you let the cats wander through.
One other thing I would suggest is soaking your sheets in very hot water...it removes fleas/eggs and also using a can of Raid and spray it lightly on a cloth and wipe down your furniture/bedding with (of course with sheets off) and then put it in the sunshine if you can......the heat really ticks the fleas off (pun intended lol)...
The other thing you can do is leave your bag in a cold place.....cold is uncomfortable for fleas as well (like cold enough to see your breath) temp extremes are really irritating to fleas and they generally leave or die b/c of it....
