So, on my way to church this morning, before 5AM, I took a cab and the cab driver and I got into an interesting conversation. He asked why I was travelling to a mall (church venue is in a shopping mall) so early. So I told him I was going to church to help set up (mind you, I live in Singapore where most people are either Hindu or Buddhist and majority wouldn't always understand the term ministry, unlike in Western countries). He started babbling on about how, when he was younger he was taught to pray to God, then to Jesus, then to Mary (he was a Catholic). He said that, Jesus, to him, was only a prophet, just like Muhammed (he's a buddhist, actually) and a buddhist prophet (who's name I don't recall, it started with an S but not siddhartha).
Anyway, long story short, he had me listening to his preaching and I didn't know what to say. First, he's an old Chinese guy. When he started telling me about his version of Jesus' history (which was twisted), I tried to correct him but he wouldn't let me because he wasn't finished talking (and I grew frustrated). Also, knowing their culture, it's very offending to them to be taught by people younger (and I am). So I let him babble on and on while I was lost in my thinking...
Was there any way for me to have handled the discussion into giving him the accurate history of Jesus? I'm asking because, it's not the first time, and I always find myself, just letting them continue with what they thought was true. I knew it wasn't but I couldn't say anything! Why?! How to deal with this? Sigh.
