It's a tangled web we weave, but it boils down to....... Do we REALLY believe Jesus? He said whoever would save his own life will lose it. And, we try so hard to twist that into some kind of "Spiritual" meaning.
If you just take that as the only command in the bible. There are others about stewardship and justice and protecting the weak, protecting your wife and your children.....

Hey, I'll chop off one of the SOB's heads in a minute. But I do know that I am in conflict with Jesus' example when I do.

there are -many- decisive reasons not to vote for trump...

but the fact that he doesn't love the bad guys enough isn't exactly the first good reason that comes to mind...

Then, are you ok with it.... Or are you stuggling with the idea?

Of course I struggle with it. But, what would you want me to do if one of those guys was holding a knife to your child's throat, and I had a clear shot to take him out?

Go on. I would like to know the implications you see regardless.
I don't know what you mean by "implications", but if the Jewish authorities told the people to put up with the Romans, then that is what they were to do.

It is sometimes very difficult to pull our heads out of our Christian Idealism, and consider everyday real world situations.

I have a pacifist friend, a Mennonite (Anabaptist) with whom I argue this whole scenario every year when he comes to visit. Years now, and we still don't see eye to eye.

That is NOT the same as torturing possible terrorists for information, even though it doesn't work OR killing the non-participant wives and CHILDREN of terrorists.. Which is pointless and will simply perpetuate war.

You honestly don't see the association? Really?

Why do you think there are so relatively few terrorists attacks on American soil? Are you naïve enough to think that our MIB are asking people nicely to tell us what their groups are planning? No way. More torture and threats against their family members are going on all the time than you could possibly even imagine.

I'm praying for a better president than Trump. I hope the good Lord will hear my prayer. I know He will. Amen.

And, YES, it will perpetuate war. Have you ever seen a time in the entire history of our planet when wars weren't going on all over the place every day of the week? We are NOT going to end war. Only Jesus' return will do that.

The main reason is that we don't have that many of them here is distance. In France and Belgium they have many...the pond is making our borders safe. Not necessarily only our efforts.

Airplanes effectively eliminate the pond. And we have longer borders on our top and bottom than the few thousand feet of barricaded spaces can keep safe.

Can I add another perspective on the subject. People tend to
assume that only Muslim people live in the countries referred to but there
are also many Christians refugees/immigrants etc.

See the open doors link below.

Serving Persecuted Christians Worldwide - World Watch List - Open Doors UK & Ireland
THE MIDDLE EAST

Syria is the 'largest displacement crisis globally' according to the UN. More than half the
Syrian population have left their homes; 7.6 million are internally displaced within the country,
and 4 million are refugees outside it. Before the war there were some 1.8 million Christians
in Syria; now best estimates stand at between 700,000 and 800,000.

Most of Syria's refugees have ended up in refugee camps in Turkey, Lebanon or Jordan.
But many Christians fear to go into the camps where, in the words of one, 'we are still a
vulnerable minority in a very dangerous place'.

"You flee to survive and keep your children safe, but that is just as hard in the camps," said
a father in a refugee camp in Lebanon. "It can be tough to find enough to eat and also to stop
undesirables preying particularly on our young daughters."

I would add that Turkey is a mainly Muslim country but there is also a
large Christian population. Some of the surrounding countries also are
muslim only on the face of it, but they have a large Christian underground
network.

The reason I know this is that I know the staff and director of radio world wide
which is a branch of WEC.

They broadcast Christian programmes into turkey and the surrounding
countries. Every year my church along with other churches in the area, do
a missions trek to turkey and hold many women's conferences and also
general Christians conferences and pray days.

Hundreds and hundreds attend these not just from turkey but also from
the underground persecuted Christian church of the surrounding countries.

We have had exchanges where teams of Christians from these countries
have visited our church on short trips. It is heart breaking to hear their
stories but also heart warming to hear the amazing testimonies of
salvation, blessings God has bestowed on these people and the miraculous
answers to prayer.

Am just drawing this to everyone's attention as it gets forgotten in such discussions.

Incidentally when people say immigrants should enter by the front door legally,
when your country and home is being bombed to smitherenes, it would be
mighty difficult to find pen and paper to fill in an application form.

Not all of these immigrants are Muslim, many thousands are Christians not just
fleeing the bombing but also fleeing the persecution.

Oh the open doors website also has lots of other information including:

THE YEAR OF FEAR: PERSECUTION TRENDS IN 2016

The stark fact is this: globally, persecution of Christians is increasing. For millions
of Christians around the world, 2015 has been a 'year of fear', so they need our support
now more than ever.

But where there is great fear, there is also great faith. What this List also shows is that
the church may be persecuted, it may be suppressed, attacked, vilified, lied about. But
it has not been, and will never be, defeated.

THE BIG PICTURE

North Korea is number 1 again, as it has been for the past 14 years. Eritrea – the 'North
Korea of Africa' – has entered the top five for the first time. In these 'pariah states' life
as a Christian is frightening and dangerous.

Islamic extremism remains by far the most common driver of persecution: in eight out
of the top 10, and 35 out of the top 50 countries, it is the primary cause. A rise in Islamic
extremism sees Pakistan at its highest position ever, and Libya entering the top ten for the first time.

But it's not just about Islam. A rise in hardline Hindu nationalism in India has seen
churches and pastors attacked with impunity. It enters the top 20 for the first time.

Open Doors records show that worldwide there were over 7,000 Christians killed for
faith-related reasons in the year – almost 3,000 more than the previous year.
(These are conservative estimates and exclude North Korea, Syria and Iraq, where
accurate records do not exist.) Around 2,400 churches were attacked or
damaged – over double the number for last year. In terms of violence against
Christians and Christian property, Nigeria and Central African Republic top the list.

And the world has watched aghast as millions of refugees risk the hazardous route
to Europe from the Middle East and the Horn of Africa. Their number includes tens
of thousands of Christians fleeing war and persecution.

And all the time, beneath these 'headline' events, there is constant, low-level, localised
persecution. Christians are driven out of their communities, refused burial, denied jobs
or education. Churches are torn down because of local opposition or mob rule. For
millions of Christians, the everyday persecution happens in their village, or even among their family.

All of which is to say that around the world, persecution of Christians is increasing. In 2015
the number of points needed for a country to enter the top 50 was 48.5; in 2016 it is 53.4
points. Find out more about our methodology.

But on the frontline of suffering there is also great faith. Christianity is about victory, more
than victimhood. So, a year of fear, but also courage and hope as Christians around the
world stand beside their persecuted brothers and sisters, providing practical aid, speaking
up on their behalf, and demonstrating mercy, compassion and forgiveness, rather than hatred
, exclusion and revenge.
