what do you guys think of the whole duggar situation? I cant imagine what they are going through right now. There are so many hateful comments being said that I'm almost trying to avoid social media. I hope their show does not get cancelled. I think it's they are really brave for coming out knowing it could be.

I think that bringing up a hearsay report against a 10 year old 17 years later is ridiculous.

I also think this belongs on the news forum.

He was 14, and it was 13 years ago. But not much difference.

I also think this belongs on the news forum.
I don't think it belongs anywhere. This isn't the first family to have issues of this kind, and they won't be the last. The average family with such incidents doesn't wind up the lead story on the In Touch Weekly website.

I think pretty highly of that family even though I haven't watched too many of the episodes. It's such a shame that of all the things a teenage boy could have done wrong he did that one. Every person looking for something bad in that family just got some great stuff to work with.

If the Duggars are truly the Christians they seem to be, God has a purpose for it coming out and He will use it for His glory.

My big fear is that child services will stick their nose into the situation now that this has come out. They are always ready to get involved in something like this. I believe we need to pray that this does not happen to the family.

For anybody who is down on them for not "contacting authorities", you have no idea how you would handle it if it actually happened to you. What parent is going to head straight for a phone to call authorities when it is their own child? It sounds like they tried to get him help. It is a testimony to the power of God that he has been delivered from this because many sex offenders cannot and will not be helped.

Well, I'm new to these forums. Hi! :) And I just gave my heart back to God a couple of summers ago. This Duggar issue is deeply disturbing. Coming from a family of police officers I do know (from discussions and html links/news) kids that age DO get prison time as adults for sexual crimes such as Josh has admitted to. I do hope he does not end up having to serve prison time. Those prison animals will devour a fresh faced young man like. Inmates usually kill child molesters in prison. It's sick and I am praying for the Duggars. I am also praying that that large family knows how to make money some other way than having babies and collecting a check from TLC because that is over now.

While I like the Duggars, I feel God will forgive Josh for this. If he knows what he did was wrong, then he'll be forgive it's sad the show will be off, but I think TLC will put it back on the air.

I agree and plus this is nothing but gossip that I feel is not appropriate for me to be a part of.

I cannot believe he is "cured." There were no consequences for his actions, no counseling to get to the reasons for this behaviour, and no uncovering what triggered him. (Who abused him? In other words - that is usually what make pedophiles abuse children.)

I think the whole show, the concept is appalling. Too many children to properly parent. Women living in abject and total obedience to men who are not answerable to anyone! (Oh God, I guess!)

It perpetuates stereotypes, it is a philosophy that totally misuses the Bible. The fact that they let their lives become a show piece for TV doesn't say much about their Christianity.

Until he is put in jail, serves time for the terrible things he has done, I will not believe he is "cured." Really, there is no cure for pedophila. And yes, a 14 year old can be a pedophile, as long as he is a bit older than the girls he is molesting. He ruined the girls lives, and he get off with being the favoured son.

It just makes me sick, and also how swayed people are by this corrupt and disgusting brand of "Christianity." Totally submissive women and children is the perfect breeding grounds for all kinds of abuse - sexual, physical and mental. Just terrible!

I can only hope that the good that will come out of this, is that other women in this slavery situation will be encouraged to seek help and get out.

Right on Angela! You hit it on the nose! I find the fact disturbing also. That the father, Mr Duggar,..had the audacity, to accompany his daughters on first dinner dates with boyfriends. Like they were in danger. Yet he knew his son was a perv! Thumbs down to that father! My opinion!

I just feel sad and so sorry that the whole Duggar family is out of a job. Going to be so hard feeding all those kids without that TLC money... Maybe FOX will give them a guest spot like they did for Palin and Huckabee when they needed money. I'm praying!!! I also pray Josh and JimBob aren't thrown in prison for not only the 'alleged' molestation but the covering it up by the family. I hope that trooper who had a 'stern' talk with Josh was guided by God at the time. I guess he's in prison now for child pornography... Sick lies! I pray that God makes it stop.

How do you know that? Are you judging & being an accuser of the brethren -- or is this more news I never heard of?

All I read/heard was indecent assault, touching -- and this by a teenager long before he was saved.
One child indecently fondles another child -- that is news??? That is something for which as an adult he should resign a position in God's service?

What leads you to suppose that a 14 year old boy who indecently fondled a younger child is not curable? Do you suppose that the sins of teenagers are to be advertised after they become adults, even being saved as adults???

To be sure no one is totally cured of sin until trusts Christ as Savior, then dies or the Rapture comes -- neither you nor I am cured; we ever have indwelling sin which can pop up at any time. But we have received new natures, but that Old Man waxes corrupt. And I believe that with age one's Old Man gets worse & worse.

But give me a break on bringing up the sins of a Christian before he was saved, particularly when he was still a child.

I view this "news" story as an attack by the accuser of the brethren. Our society blesses fornication, even between persons of the same sex. Kids in high school are regarded as fornicators with a shrug of the shoulder & give 'em a condom. Sex is going on between children of most all ages all the time, in homes -- and what if you could see what goes on in Day Care Centers. And is this not perfectly acceptable to the humanist liberals?

Josh wasn't a "stupid kid," he displayed predatory behavior for over a year. Still, I blame the adults in his life for creating the environment for this situation to occur and for mishandling it afterward. That's really the problem here. Patriarchy teaches girls to be compliant and neglects to teach boys that girls are to be respected. Their courtship and modesty teachings set up girls as temptresses and boys as helpless to resist. They mistakenly think that evil comes from "the world," and that it doesn't reside within our own hearts. In reality, crimes need to be reported ASAP, and not just prayed away.

Josh was not given the tools he needed to deal with his own sexuality or taught how to respect others. To their credit, the environment was such that the girls were able to tell what was happening; and they were believed. But they, along with their brother, did not receive qualified, licensed counseling. And they were not protected from continued molestation after reporting, as the Duggars were still having incidents with Josh even after the problems were noted.

I do not demonize Josh or think he is beyond redemption. What I'm saying is that this is a pattern that is being repeated over and over again. (Bill Gothard Doug Phillips, BJU, The Village Church Dallas etc.) We have to stop looking at these instances of molestation, domestic violence, and abuse as anomalies. THEY ARE ALL RELATED. What are we doing to contribute to it? What can we do to stop it?

I'd find it impossible to offer love and sympathy to someone who commits a sexual assault. I don't know his circumstances or the family's in the slightest. So this is a personal comment not a commentary about the case.

I find it laughable that people think Josh hadn't accepted Christ by age 14 in that family.

Josh Duggar committed a crime...no several crimes. Child protective services SHOULD HAVE BEEN BROUGHT INTO the situation. We are told to obey the laws of this land.
