I've been keeping the ladies forum updated on this but I'm going to share it again here because I'm so excited and happy XD
A week ago I was browsing the internet looking for wedding dresses in my budget. This is hard because...my entire budget for the dress, alterations, and the veil was $200. Most girls I talked to said this was near impossible -- but I'm determined to stick to my budget. After looking at several other websites, I tried eBay, and I looked for dresses under $90. Very few options came up, and most of them were used dresses bought back in the 80's. Finally, I found it. A used designer gown being auctioned off at a starting bid of $55. I looked at the description and read that it was altered to fit the previous bride...who happens to be my size and height, AND the veil was included for free.
I went to to place a bid, but noticed she didn't ship to Alaska. I messaged her, asking if she'd consider shipping to Alaska if I offered to pay the extra shipping charges. She kindly cooperated and edited her shipping preferences to allow Alaska. **
As the auction was closing, I was so paranoid that someone would outbid me at the last second, but I guess not to many brides are in the market for used dresses altered to a height of only 5'1", because I won!
The he dress just arrived today. My dad actually had to get into his truck and chase down the mailman because he just left a note saying the package arrived instead of actually getting out and giving us the package. I tried it on with a pair of heels...and it fits. Perfectly. Zero alterations needed. And the veil is beautiful.
So, I have a dress. I have a veil. I need no alterations. The grand total cost, including shipping, came out to $142.
It feels like a miracle. Jesus might as well have picked it himself.
** ps- this is not the same eBay seller I previously mentioned who didn't know Alaska was part of America.

I give my cats baths about every year and a half, unless they are really dirty they never are. I had to give them a flea bath last year. It stunk, they latched on to me the shower curtain my husband, they never get used to a bath. Maybe if they were show cats but good Lord avoid it for as long as you can!

By this time tomorrow, I'll be in my new place, and will never have to come back to this apartment again.
I'm grateful that God provided this place for me and my kiddos, allowing us to get out of an increasingly bad situation. I'm grateful for the lessons I've learned while living here, the growth and change (and the exercise, climbing the stupid stairs). It was kind of fun and exciting, setting up here on my own...and it was scary and lonely.
I'm leaving behind yet more unpleasant memories, but taking with me the wisdom and strength gained from them.
We celebrated my son's 3rd birthday here, with almost literally nothing- my sister stepped in to make sure he had a special day while I made him cupcakes.
My daughter took her first steps here- today she walked across the room by herself, into my arms.
I've shed more tears here than anywhere else, ever.
This apartment has never felt like Home. I don't know if our new place will, either. That makes me sad...but at the same time, this has been just the first step in an adventure, and we're about to take the second step.
In a way, I'm learning to walk alone just as my daughter is.
I'm grateful that God provided this place for me and my kiddos, allowing us to get out of an increasingly bad situation. i unintentionally do that ALL THE TIME, such as when i head to the stable or go riding. or i'll head to the gym with my hair down, and slap a couple elastics on my wrist so that i can do that later, and then forget and dig one of the 43234542354 i have in my sports bag.
i'm so happy for you, seriously...so very exciting.

A newish co-worker recently moved to my city from Toronto then before that from India. He's Christian. He was telling me a bit about the origins of Christianity in India. It's mostly Hindu and Buddhists, but in the south there are Christians. The origins stem from the disciple Thomas spreading the gospel.
Cristen, this brought me back to the 6 months we lived in our tiny crappy rent house after beginning a new life a few years ago. It's so strange... we all have really fond memories of that time and that house now. We just drove by it today, thinking about all the ways we have changed, and how special it was living there. God is good.
