Tats are what the pagans did. The were in honor of their gods. we know that their gods were servants of satan. After all if you live to be 70 those tats are nasty looking. when I was a teenager a girl with a tat was called a tramp stamp. which meant she was a easy girl so to speak.
If you have bought a brand new home and would you put grafitti on it? Devil want you to put grafitti on our bodies so that it wouldn't look pleasing to the next person. People should keep their house stainless so that the devil can play with the mind. The best way to bring someone down is to bring down their self-esteem; and then the devil can sink his claws in us so that we can't escape from him.

Tattoos were originally used as demon/ Idol worship and will be used in the last day as the mark. Just as the earing in man's ear meant that you were a slave. Look it up for yourself.

This passage some say is about not getting a tatoo and some say this does not apply to us today. Personally, I refuse to get a tatoo. I believe that this scripture above has broader implications. If it was wrong to cut or mark yourself back then why do it today?

You are correct but as for me, I may or may not put tattoos on my body and what the tat represents to me is what will be judged by God. If I put a tat across my chest that says "I'm for Jesus" I don't think the Lord is going to send me to the lake anymore than for a tat of an anchor on my arm for serving God and my country in the USN.
If you don't like tats ..that's kool, but it's just a form of art and expression nothing more unless someone else has found it in their heart to make it into something that it isn't by judging a book by it's cover.
This verse is showing that being stainless is better; but it isn't unlawful for the spirit. It says not worried about flesh, but if you are, then you shouldn't mark it up. The devil loves to corrupt whatever God has created, physically and spiritually.

the word often translated in the NT 'servant' actually means slave
like when paul calls himself a 'servant of Jesus Christ' it should read 'slave of Jesus Christ'

i heard that women wore nose piercings in the OT, it was part of their marriage tradition
i don't think that piercings and tattoos are bad in and of themselves
if we idolize them they are bad
if we get them because we are trying to attract the opposite sex, they can be bad
if they are just 'whatever' then i don't think it really matters
altho
if we have gotten a tattoo or piercing (say, before we were saved) and then experience the Lord trying to deal with us on that, we should definitely repent

If you are going to use that verse to verify that tattoos are wrong then you have to use the preceding verse as well:
Lev 19:27 You shall not shave around the sides of your head, nor shall you disfigure the edges of your beard.
what about verse 32...do you stand up when an old person enters your presence??
Lev 19:32 'You shall rise before the gray headed and honor the presence of an old man, and fear your God: I am the LORD.

pagans did tattoos to worship a false god.. part of their ritual.
tattoos, much like anything, i feel is a case of, use not abuse. if you are going to do tattoos, dont over-do it and dont do it for the wrong reasons.
with that said, i still say the safest way would be not to get a tattoo, but at the same time, i think its safe, as long as you check in with God before hand.

Those who argue it is OK to graffiti the temple of God should consider how it might be to graffiti the real temple of God as it once existed in Jerusalem. If the Jews rebuilt the temple would it be ok to spray point symbols, chinese characters, tribal art, skulls, sun, moon, stars, animals or portraits on it?
Of course not. So why do it to the temple of God (your body)?

The tenet behind Leviticus 19:28 is that God did not want the Jews participating in pagan rituals. While that verse may not be suitable to use in the argument against tattooing today, there are NT passages that speak against idolatry and worldliness which modern tattooing and body modification is nothing more than (1 Cor 10:14, 1 John 2:15-17). We are in the world but not of it thus we are to honour God with our bodies and not draw attention to it however tattoos do the opposite. Now this is not to shame Christians who already have tattoos; since you have repented God has forgiven you, and don't get more.
Romans 12:1-2 I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service. And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.
