Tattoos and Piercings

Don't bring over into the new testament laws and commandments that were not carried over to the new testament. Back up your facts with scripture from the new testament. As I already said, Jesus did give a new commandment not to kill, not to kill ANYONE, but to love even your enemies. Where is the scripture please that overrides the cutting of the skin & marking of the body? I would like to read that.

Rom 13:8 Owe no one anything, except to love each other, for the one who loves another has fulfilled the law. 9 For the commandments, “You shall not commit adultery, You shall not murder, You shall not steal, You shall not covet,” and any other commandment, are summed up in this word: “You shall love your neighbor as yourself.” 10 Love does no wrong to a neighbor; therefore love is the fulfilling of the law.

Why can't you just accept that people have them in good faith and it's not a sin cuz the bible says so. When you start killing witches, I'll get my tats removed. Deal? 10 commandments were implemented before the rest of the Levitical law, so your argument about Jesus putting the 10 commandments in effect destroys your logic. 10 commandments were in effect first. The Levitical law about tattoos was pertaining to idol worship, which breaks the 1st commandment. We don't get tattoos to aid in idol worship.

This line of thinking brought about the inquisition.

I nave two small tats myself.....faith hope love on the inside of my left wrist a d a little red heart with my husbands name above it on my ankle...I believe I am forgiven....and I do not think I will be sent to hell because of them. I believe God looks at my heart not my wrist and ankle.
I do not plan on getting anymore however....

Spme people felt like they were being judged by some of us who are against tattoos. There is never any condemnation for those in Christ. I almost got some ink a few times. I had a simple rule. First decide on which tat I want and then wait 30 days. If I still wanted it after that, I would get it. Yet each time I decided against it.

Now That I am a Christian I would not get one and I feel it is wrong for anyone to get one too. Am I judging anyone by saying this?? Not at all. Tattoos are common today. Even some Grannies are getting ink.

My advice is if you have one, simply repent and ask for forgiveness and it is a done issue.

Part of this debate seems to qestion: Are tattoos art? or are tattoos Graffiti?

For those on the side of art: Tattoos are a form of personal expression. They can be done tastefully & even express your religious convictions

For those on the side of graffiti: Tattoos are defacing your ‘temple’ regardless of their intended meanings or expressions.


As for me, I won’t get a tattoo; not because I think its wrong, but because the level of detail I would want would require a tattoo that is far too costly and far too big.

What would someone "in Christ" want with a tattoo,do you think Jesus would want one?

Very true.

All ages do it now.

There are plenty of opinions about it, one way or another, including among Christians. It's particularly a young people's thing, but all ages do it (grandkids' dates of birth and names inked, praying hands, etc.).
