This clip actually demonstrates very effectively that the sun is moving [ back ] away from the camera ( into the frame ) rather than downwards...

Pay very close attention to what you are seeing here...

See the little "wisps" of light - that "detach" from the 'ball' just before disappearing?

Think about the refraction angles necessary for you to see this occur as you do.

This is not going to happen with the sun "falling over the horizon" of a globe.

However, it is exactly what you can expect to see if the sun is moving away from you parallel to a flat surface ( instead of down-and-around a spherical surface ).

My understanding is that you have to be at least 60,000 feet up, and commercial planes fly at 30 to 40,000 feet.

I looked it up some out of curiosity. It depends on what field of view you have. They say you can start to see it at 35,000 feet but you need at least 60 degrees of flat horizon to view. It adds that the typical airliner window will not allow 60 degrees of view. They also say that if you stand on a point on shore looking out to the ocean (to where all you can see is ocean), you can see it at sea level. Unobstructed field of view is the critical factor, altitude helps provide that field of view.

I have been able to see that on airplane. It's not very strong at the max altitude but visible, and as stated above it requires Unobstructed field of view, preferably over an ocean. Top of that At school (when I was still studying) we had certain "experiments" where we managed to prove it by small camera.
