Temperature in North Atlantic ocean at record-high'

Highest temps are normally recorded at in early September not July what does this mean

Previous record high was recorded in September 2022, at 24.89 degrees Celsius this was been recorded all ready, is something speeding up

The United States National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration's preliminary data revealed a historic development — the highest-ever temperature recorded this week in the North Atlantic, surpassing its usual annual peak.

This notable occurrence comes after the Mediterranean region also experienced a new record high in temperatures. Adding to the worrying situation, scientific evaluations indicate that July will become the warmest month ever recorded, aggravating the scorching heat caused by global warming and impacting millions of people worldwide.

According to Xungang Yin, a scientist at NOAA's National Centers for Environmental Information, the average sea surface temperature in the North Atlantic Ocean reached a record 24.9 degrees Celsius (76.8 degrees Fahrenheit) on Wednesday.

What makes this record even more alarming is its early timing, as the North Atlantic typically reaches its peak temperature in early September instead of July, making the urgency to address climate change and its repercussions is now more apparent than ever.

Meanwhile, the previous record high was recorded in September 2022, at 24.89 degrees Celsius, Yin said.

NOAA, which has been tracking sea temperatures since the early 1980s, will need about two weeks to confirm the preliminary findings.

The Mediterranean Sea reached its highest temperature on record Monday, Spanish researchers said — amid an exceptional heat wave in Europe.

The record of 28.71 degrees Celsius was announced by Spain's Institute of Marine Sciences, which analysed data from satellites used by the European Earth observation programme, Copernicus.

Those experts said they measure the daily median sea surface temperature, rather than the average, because it is less susceptible to extreme spikes in temperature in isolated areas of the sea.

The Mediterranean region, hit by record temperatures in July, has long been classified as a hotspot of climate change.

Atlantic record likely to be broken again

The sea surface temperature in the North Atlantic is "expected to continue to increase through the month of August," NOAA's Yin said, adding it was "highly likely" the record would again be broken.

The new high of 24.9 degrees Celsius is "more than one degree warmer than a 30-year climatological normal, calculated from 1982 to 2011," he added.

Since March, which is the month when the North Atlantic begins to warm up after winter, temperatures have generally been warmer than in previous years, with the difference more pronounced in recent weeks

The North Atlantic has become an emblematic observation point for the warming of seawater worldwide due to the effects of climate change caused by greenhouse gas emissions.

The Copernicus programme, which uses different data than that analysed by NOAA, told AFP on Friday that it had recorded a temperature of 24.7 Celsius on Wednesday in the North Atlantic.

A Copernicus spokesman said while that remained below the programme's September 2022 record, slightly lower than the NOAA level at 24.81 Celsius, that record was sure to be broken "this summer."

"At this stage, it is just a matter of days."

This situation is extreme: we've seen maritime heat waves before, but this is very persistent and spread out over a large surface area" in the North Atlantic, Karina Von Schuckmann from the Mercator Ocean International research center told AFP.

The expert noted that the oceans have absorbed 90% of the excess heat produced by human activity since the dawn of the industrial age.

"This accumulation of energy doubled over the last two decades," fueling global warming, she said.

On a global scale, the average ocean temperature has been besting seasonal heat records on a regular basis since April.

A specific, striking example has been recorded in Florida where waters off the coast of the Sunshine State reached 38.3 degrees Celsius on Monday, according to data from a weather buoy — a temperature more associated with a hot tub.

If confirmed, the reading could constitute a world record.

Mean while as countries like China and India who's population is 3 billion get hotter and are dependant on coal, more coal is being consumed to provide power for air conditioning,

I wonder what the drastic action will be ?.

Some theories I have from studies,, have I cracked it ?

Studies show the earth has more oxergen in glacial ice ages, we are now in an interglacial speeding up. I wonder how much oxergen is trapped in our ice ?.

To my next thought studies show that the oceans has absorbed 90 percent of the earths carbon dioxide since the industrial revolution started, I just wonder how much more they can hold befor global warming speeds up which is now speeding up.

Could it be as the waters rise from melting ice caps they hold more carbon but more oxergen gets release into air from melting ice ?

Wouldn't it make sense that the earth would only get so hot before an ice age but not so hot since creatures have survived past events.

Is it designed this way ?

Could it be global warming is speeding up because are oceans are saturated, but the earth won't get to hot as ocean levels rise with ice melting they'll hold more carbon.

But as a result huge amounts of oxergen are released from melting ice caps or and more oxergen is drawn out of the water to ?.

It's thought the more dense our lower atmosphere is the less the heat gets through from above.

Such as the higher up the the atmosphere you go the less dense the atmosphere gases are and the hotter it gets.

It also occured to me the warmer it gets the more dust rises making our atmosphere even more dense at lower levels.

What do ya think have I cracked it

i think the water level balances itself because ice melts in the ocean and it lowers the level and it melts on land and raises the level so it equals out and i think the powers that be want to heat the world to get at that sweet new land beneath the ice and its resources

it could be new lakes form on land or even a new ocean somewhere or the dry land will soak up more water 😊.

Your right but would you say everything else you quoted could still apply

I just think the Lord has built it to maintain a certain level and it will stay that way.

I agree completely 👍 good thinking here.

Meanwhile two hours ago news reporters reported permafrost sink holes in Siberia are growing and sinking into the ground further

I've found the best video to give full insight

lol
1970s old chums

It really has gone colder this summer here tho in the UK compared to Europe,

We will have to see what happens but I do feel something big is coming.

It's the calm befor the storm fealing I get, i think this winter is going to be the year of storms, I'm normally right about theese things, I'm sensing a super hurricane covering the whole northern hemisphere.

And it could turn icy verry quickly everywhere followed by months of blizzards across the whole norther hemisphere 🙂...
