I was watching a netflix of the disappearance of madeliene mccann. The parents never admitted that they were neglectful of their children, despite leaving them alone EVERY night and during the day just handing them off to daycare.

I wondered what it would actually take for them to confess their wrong actions rather than lie about it to the entire world and blame it on some imaginary perpatrator.

I dont know. Missing children, waifs and strays are common enough. The ones that cling to me the most in the library all seem to have issues with their parents...either one or both...they never see them, they are in jail, they are abusive, or they are absent with no explanation. These are the children who are dying, even screaming for attention...they want SOMEONE to take notice, to care, to say its ok, they are safe. Nobody is going to kill you.
and I never got why parents would complain about lockdowns when children might have welcomed a bit more family time. Perhaps Im too used to the other extreme...tiger mums.

when my mum watched it with me, she was like meh. What a waste of time... they never found her.

You have a wonderful opportunity to make that right through these children at the library, thank you kindly for noticing and working to meet their needs.

in the public library
we would get children literally dumped in the library by their own parents, not caring while they went away for hours and come back to find their children distressed and wandering by themselves alone.

We would also get streetkids, runaways whose parents didnt care where they were, or if they did, theratened them with a beating if they ever returned home.

they would sometimes use the toilets for doing drugs...I remember one girl we all had trouble with and she would come to the library all the time, she had no place to go. She wasnt that interested in reading as her homelife was such her parents never stayed in one place so she had gone from school to school and fell behind with everything.

when kids reach the teen stage and they havent mastered reading, their peers might mock them for being interested in picture books. The converse is true, read TOO much, and you are seen as a brainy know it all, and also mocked. Boys it seems will mock other boys if they are too into books

I had one sweet girl in school who always wanted to read with me, and came in nearly every day, so would read with her, but she was only there for a month or two before leaving school to go somewhere else. She told her teacher she had made a friend ...me!

a lot of children would deliberately try to skip class just to hang out in the library. Theyd say their teacher was mean etc. I had to kind of be diplomatic. One one hand...yay. on the other hand ...you are missing out on your lesson...! If they did it too much Id susupect something was up or their class was so boring maybe they were too bright for it and needed extension.

Bless your heart for caring for children the way that you do. You are an example worth emulating.

oh I dont know tourist I thought most people would see that children do need an adult to protect them/looking after since they are so small and vulnerable and cant really do things for themselves.

Whether thats something as simple as 'you can call me if you need help' or something more like 'I'll be watching you' and assurance that they'll be listened to, if anything goes wrong, dont all children need that?

I was trying to solve the mystery of madeliene mccanns disappearance after watching the netflix doc of it but in the end I kinda gave up.

Too many conflicting stories and theories..I couldnt even solve the mystery of my own loved ones (theres no body, but they are gone) but just put that to God and He took care of it.

I think in many cases, tragedies are to teach us a lesson. And accidents do happen. And sometimes people are stupid, and sometimes, people lie, or they are mistaken, and sometimes they just dont want to be found.

There may indeed be something to be learned from a tragedy, but it would be a very hard lesson.

A forum for the one secret confession that you do not want revealed
but are brave enough to admit for all to see.

My name is tourist and I have a serious nicotine addiction. I once told God that I wanted quit smoking. He did not answer my prayer as He knew that I was lying to him. Perhaps when I am serious he will deliver me from this self-imposed affliction, and other things as well that do not belong in my life.
Pray for a change of heart bro. We do that every time we ask God to sanctify us and make us more like Him.
