I had an 18 year old black man try and explain to me the need for reparations. So I asked him if he felt he had suffered racism and needed reparations. He said no. Both his parents have advanced degrees, both were professionals, their income put them into the upper middle class bracket, and there were plenty of lawyers, doctors and judges in his immediate family. I pointed out that being in the top 20% of US income puts you in the top 5% worldwide for income and standard of living.

This is the typical problem with beginner debaters, they make a case but have no plan.

For example, does reparations for blacks in California include Kamala Harris? That would be a joke on so many levels, she grew up in Canada, her ancestors were slave holders, her parents have advanced degrees and were very successful, and of course she is one of the most powerful people in the world. But no one thinks about that.

Would you give reparations to felons? killers? Drug lords?

I heard one black man talking about how life for blacks was far better in the 1950s. He said his neighborhood was safe, no shootings, no killings, no gangs, no drug lords. His point was that the problems we face today are self inflicted. Blaming racism for being a single mother with four kids you can't afford is not going to solve anything. Blaming racism because you can't get a job when you dropped out of high school to sell drugs and you have a rap sheet is not going to solve anything.

So then the argument winds up getting all twisted. They can't figure out who the descendants of slaves are that deserve the reparations so then it becomes "systemic racism". Yet we are now seeing blacks who graduated from Harvard and other "elite" schools that come across as some of the stupidest people you ever saw during these senate confirmation hearings. They weren't victims, they were beneficiaries of racism, these quotas that the universities have to fill.

What do you do about immigrants who came to the US after the Civil war, they never had anything to do with slavery but they must pay for it?

I believe you have to make atonement for your sins, but that is often very difficult to do right. To do this right you need to carefully trace all the slave owners that had plantations. Find out what happened to these families and their money. If you can trace wealth all the way back to these slave holders, then seize those assets and put it to good use. I doubt you can do it, but maybe you can. Perhaps you can seize all assets owned by the KKK. This is what the Jews have done with the Nazis who were responsible for the Holocaust. That is a good work.

Slavery, as despicable as it was, ultimately gave millions of people a freedom that they would never have realized otherwise.

Oh no! San Francisco is not going to do business with us!

San Francisco discovers the consequences of its red-state travel ban

One of the great joys of journalism is getting to watch firsthand as politicians discover the consequences of their own actions — especially when those politicians are the hapless morons running San Francisco .

This week, the San Francisco Board of Supervisors voted 7-4 to end a 2016 law that banned the city from doing business with or funding travel to states considered insufficiently liberal. The blacklist started with eight states but grew to include more than 30, in large part because officials continued to expand the possible offenses that would earn states a spot on it. At first, the ban just applied to states that declined to embrace an aggressively pro-LGBT agenda. Then, in 2015, the board amended the law to include states that “limited voting rights” and passed abortion restrictions.

BIDEN'S SOCIALIST HOUSING SCHEME

But alas, it turns out the states didn’t mind San Francisco’s ban that much. Here’s an incredible quote from a February report by the City Administrator’s Office: "This increase [in states added to the blacklist] suggests that the city's threat of boycott may not serve as a compelling deterrent to states considering restrictive policies."

In their repeal, city officials also cited the astronomical increase in contracting costs the city had been forced to take on as a result of the ban’s restrictions. The City Administrator’s Office estimated that San Francisco’s annual contracting costs had increased by more than 20%, with the city spending more than $475,000 in staffing expenses alone to carry out the ban.

Even the blacklist’s author admitted that his efforts to punish “the sins of … radical right-wing governments” has backfired.

“Sadly, it’s time to acknowledge that this policy hasn’t worked and that we need to pull back,” state Sen. Scott Wiener said.

Cue the world’s smallest violin.

This reminds me of the baker who didn't want to make a cake for a gay wedding and got sued. The LGBTQ+ community has a fit if anyone refuses to do business with them yet they are the ones behind cancel culture refusing to do business with everyone else.

Now if only everyone would just refuse to business with San Fransisco. Not accept contracts with or even in the city.

This whole movement for reparations is another ATTACK on America. There should be absolutely no reparations whatsoever.

Since the 1960s the federal government already took numerous steps to ensure that black Americans had opportunities to advance, and there were many financial incentives which are still there. Probably billions of dollars have gone towards blacks in one form or another. If it was not for the Biden administration's promotion of Black Racism through (a) CRT and (b)DEI (diversity, equity, inclusion) there would have been no talk of reparations.

So the first order of business should be the arrest and incarceration of Biden and all his officials. The next order of business should be the wholesale cancellation of all his harmful executive orders and regulations which are meant to destroy America. Then all of the Bidens' accounts should be confiscated, and distributed to those who are clamoring for reparations. The only problem is that there is no one in America with the guts to go after these evildoers.

I never knew that about California until your post. Why is that their government so weird?

For years they'd make news claiming they were going to secede from the U. S.
That was a few years ago.

Now it seems rather than secede they're just going to pass laws that makes California appear unrelated to the rest of the country.

Much of the north eastern parts of California would love to form a new state . That woudl include some eastern parts of Oregon if i remember correctly some of Idaho. The mass of population in on the coast so the attempts to do so have failed. After living most of my 76 years in California i am so glad to be out of there. The country is beautiful the government is ugly.

To the topic California was never a 'slave state' . Todays California's for the most part have been bought by the corrupt government. One side of my ancestry did not migrate to the USA until after 1900. The other side was also poor .
Reparations ? Really then lets start with the war lords

or maybe all of califorina...
Well we're the home of Trinity Broadcasting Network and Greg Laurie w/Harvest Ministries/Crusades. Both together probably bring in more souls for Heaven than any other org. Not bragging, I don't do that but just saying. I'll take a wild guess and say there's pros & cons in every State if you're digging.

San Diego slammed over plan to buy 3 hotels to house homeless at $400K per room

San Diego blasted for $157M plan to buy 3 hotels to house homeless (nypost.com)

The governor of California, Newsom, is already asking the federal government for taxpayer assistance from the rest of the country.
I can understand the outrage. 400 thousand per room?
With 380 thousand landing in politicians pockets maybe?

The idea of reparations for slavery is stupid.
The idea of paying black people today because black people were bought hundreds of years ago is just adding to that first insult, imo.

califorina was never a slave state, and had only been a state for 10 years when civil war started..

I think if you read my post again youllnotice my slavery comment was about the institution itself. Not California.
Though slavery did infiltrate California.

Lets just carve this place up. Black folk can have California Oregon and Nevada, Native folk can have Wyoming, and Utah, the alphabet folks can have New Jersey, and the lefties can have every thing else Pennsylvania and north from there. The politicians and their families can have Maryland.
Let's not

California was a "free state" in name only. Read the whole web page from the California Historical Society. California is full of hypocrisy and hides behind titles to fool people.
