Yeah. Do they really believe that God is the same yesterday, today, and forever, oh except for this???
That is not the case. This is what was accepted as the GENUINE TONGUES for centuries. The Pentecostals in 1906 themselves changed the definition to include the ecstatic utterances that are falsely called
Tongues today. I totally agree GOD does not CHANGE, including the way Tongues was originally demonstrated.
Acts 2:5-12 (HCSB)
[SUP]
5 [/SUP] There were Jews living in Jerusalem, devout men from every nation under heaven.
[SUP]
6 [/SUP] When this sound occurred, a crowd came together and was confused because
each one heard them speaking in his own language.
[SUP]
7 [/SUP] And they were astounded and amazed, saying, “Look, aren’t all these who are speaking Galileans?
[SUP]
8 [/SUP]
How is it that each of us can hear in our own native language?
[SUP]
9 [/SUP] Parthians, Medes, Elamites; those who live in Mesopotamia, in Judea and Cappadocia, Pontus and Asia,
[SUP]
10 [/SUP] Phrygia and Pamphylia, Egypt and the parts of Libya near Cyrene; visitors from Rome, both Jews and proselytes,
[SUP]
11 [/SUP] Cretans and Arabs—
we hear them speaking the magnificent acts of God in our own languages.”
[SUP]
12 [/SUP] They were all astounded and perplexed, saying to one another, “What could this be?”
That is what is NOT being done today, hence as the Jews would say, if it not the same as the original miracle, it is a counterfeit.
Acts 10:45-47 (GWT)
[SUP]
45 [/SUP] All the believers who were circumcised and who had come with Peter were amazed that the gift of the Holy Spirit had been poured on people who were not Jewish.
[SUP]
46 [/SUP] They heard these non-Jewish people speaking in other languages and praising God. Then Peter said,
[SUP]
47 [/SUP] “No one can refuse to baptize these people with water.
They have received the Holy Spirit in the same way that we did.”
