or be called a devil or dangerous or some other name evicting a good ole 'burning at the stake' or at least torches and midnight cries
I don't talk much about my own experiences on this forum, but I have mentioned what follows before, so not like it's new here. I was going to sing a song based on Isaiah 53 and I brought attention to the fact that Jesus healed BEFORE his death on the cross but to deal with our sin, He had to die.
I was taken aside and asked told never to speak before singing again
they were a WOF church and physical healing was their golden calf. so, how dare I
. there often quoted and adapted for personal use, was the passage in Isaiah we are all familiar with, 'by His stripes we are healed. (v.5) apparently, the singing was passable
thing is, before that and unknown to me at the time, one of the Pastor's wives was in the hospital with cancer, refusing all treatment because if she accepted treatment, then God would not heal her. she died. leaving 3 children and her husband...who I believe would have had her accept treatment. within a year, he was remarried...to a woman that actually was not a member of that church and had moved from another province.
the same church went kaput a few years later after the head Pastor decided to turn General Building contractor and got the place deep deep into debt. they also had a school which had to close its doors and his daughter became pregnant with a man she was visiting in prison and other eyebrow raising antics
the whole thing was tragic and hundreds of people left questioning God....and loosing faith
oh. one more thing. this same Pastor decided to date Jesus return and people were actually putting their pets to death (at the vet) so the poor creatures would not be left without a person to care for them
no I'm not exaggerating at all...they also had numerous supposed 'tongues' messages that were always 'translated' in a way that suggested the Pastor, his family and the entire congregation had God's stamp of approval

there are many witnesses to all of that, but some do not even speak English
they were mostly converts from Catholicism so you can imagine how all the events hurt them
I don't know what happened to that Pastor or his family. I once walked out on a sermon his son was giving because he was waxing explicit with the sexual exploits of some dude who had raped a baby. there was no need for that. I just up and walked out and 2 elders followed me and were concerned. they should have been...but not for me
there were actually 2 sides to that congregation...one French and one English. the French side was many times larger than the English as this was in the province of Quebec
the English side had the Pastor whose wife died.

Many denominations hold to all kinds of distortion. Confidence should be in the Word of God; it addresses the truth about speaking in tongues. People can accept or reject it. But know this, according to the Word, God is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him. (Heb 11:6) And God will give the gift of the Holy Ghost to those ask. (Luke 11:13)

Who are we?
Are we Calvinist,Baptist,Methodist,Assemblies,SDA, JW ect. ect. the list can go on and on.
We should identify ourselves with God and being his children.
Following a man or his theology or interpretations is taking away from the service of the Lord.
PROVE WHAT IS REAL IN THE WORD!
How?
Simple, get away from what man teaches and live spiritually by what the Holy Spirit teaches.
This will be HARD!
We will have to take away all preconceived ideas,creeds,statements of Faith yada ,yada....and become clay in the Master's hands.
Some will need to be broken to change your attitude to God's.
I challenge any who believe that God has changed his word to suit this world or day and age!
Get alone with the creator,all three parts of him and be open to be his vessel and allow him to fill your cup.
Gifts of the SPIRIT can not be taught, they are his and he uses vessels that submit to him. They nor tongues BELONG to us, but are a part of WHO God is in us.
If you can not believe beyond the cross then you are still on the milk of the word,matters NOT if you've been a " christian" for 20,30,50, or more years.
Salvation is universal,Jesus died that ALL men everywhere might be saved! Don't stop growing in grace and Faith just bc you've been taught an error or you can not see beyond your nose!

Well, Pentecostalism is the one denomination mainly associated with modern tongues. I'm not concerned with any so-called manifestations of tongues in the distant past because they can't tell us anything about the modern manifestation. The modern phenomenon is what I'm concerned with.
Pointing out things that may or may not have happened in the distant past seems to me like a red herring.

When the Ark of the Covenant was almost to Judah, king David [God claimed David was a man after His Own Heart and the Lineage went through David to Christ], ripped his clothing off down to his skibbies and danced liked a crazed maniac before the Lord. It embarrassed his wife so much, she let him know about it. When i worship God, I could only wish to be as spiritually free as David was!

That is the key! Are we spiritually free to worship or has society, haters, judgers, scoffers,mockers and such bound up the free will of the Spirit to move through his people.

You know, Church People, the Legalists, they have ruined True Worship!
Today, we are afraid of what to preach when it comes to going against Society and Government rule, we are afraid to Worship because we have allowed the infiltration within church Walls to control our every move.
It took me several years to get to a place where I thanked God for walking into a store and being looked at funny. Been told, You have attitude [when you are walking head down and just going point A to B to shop for items], or judged as being a funny funny [not a comedian] kind of person. Finally, I broke down and sought God why is this happening? He said to me, Because you are getting Closer to Me. Ever since then, I walk into stores like a Bull through a China glass store. Still get judged the same, but I know why because I am getting Closer and Closer to God like He Desires me to be.
I've began Worshiping the Same Way like who cares what Society, the Government, the Church People think!
If getting shunned, lied about, made fun of means I am Right with God, then let the WHOLE WORLD HATE ME!!
