Read the Bible and believe it. That's what I did. God answers the hungry and SINCERE heart. People who challenge God to make Him prove Himself do not usually do well. However, even a sincere heart can get angry or disappointed or lack faith. God understands that.

How is your heart these days?
I believe in the Word. I believe I have been disciplined by God and have changed from it. I believe that this changes are power by the Holy Spirit. I believe I have two advocates: Jesus who we draw near to through the Word and the Holy Spirit.

I also have been studying eschatology without leaning on other men or their books. What I have seen blows my mind and I cannot find another soul who sees the same things.

I try to share what I see but noboby is willing to listen or test it.

I then have studied church history and then the branching of so many denominations from Rome and the Church of England. As I studied them I found that what I am closest perhaps to the early General Baptists who completely separated from the Church of England. But they then were soon blended with the more numerous Particular Baptists which never really fully separated from the Church of England. And then Baptists that created confessional statements and then now hundreds of years later there are so many different branches and divisions among Baptists which all have confessions of faith to varying degrees and it is all so disappointing because there is error in every church. And they claim full autonomy but then I realize there is not full autonomy... But then again there is error in every man. So maybe this makes sense that there is error in every church.

I am ranting...

you do not need to get a full experience of speaking in tongues. You are saved and placed your faith in the Lord Jesus Christ?

IF so ask Jesus to empower you with the Holy Spirit as HE did on that day found in Acts 2. Jesus is the Baptizer in the Holy Spirit as John chapter one says. By faith receive from the Lord Don't seek a gift seek more of Jesus.
Yes to your first question!

I have asked for Jesus to forgive my sins and to empower me with the Holy Spirit so that I could have a change in desire for my sins and thus turn from my sins. I also ask for the power to understand the Word and follow it. I do not ask for the power to perform signs and wonders.

In the past i had asked for a sign from God so I could believe and know he exists. I now understand that that was evil. Therefore, I do not want to repeat that mistake. so i dont want to ask for a sign or wonder anymore.

Although when I have a trail, I try to understand if it is disipline. I try to grow in the trial and try to recognize, repent and turn from sin and then hope that the trail will conclude.

I am in a trial now and I have approached it as it was discipline and have tried to identify and turn from sins, but then the trial still proceeds. So I don;t know if it for discipline or if it is just something I have to bare to test my faith. It is difficult.

I did not say to ask for power to perform signs, I wish you and those like would stop interjecting that false narrative.
Let me ask you this you asked for the lord to change your desire for your sins and turn you from your sins?

You sound like a struggling Christian with sin? Are you not saved? You say you ask for the power to understand His word why? Are you just seeking more understanding? For what? So you learn not to sin?

have you ever won a person to the Lord by telling them of Jesus? Have you ever prayed for someone who was sick and God healed?
Do you think Christians only pray for those who ask to see a sign?

Do you live a victorious life? Or do you live one of setbacks and failures?

Question 1:
Yes, I still sin.

Question 2:
I already answered this

Question 3:
Because I don;t know or understand all the Word, and what I do think I understand and know I don't want be in error.

Questions 4:
repenting from sin is a process. it can be a messy and arduous process. I am starting to focus on sins now that I was not even conscious of say two years ago.

Question 5:
Have I ever won a person to the Lord? I would say no.

Question 6:
I prayed for those who were sick, but I don't keep score like I healed them. So I don't have any answer.

Question 8:
Do I live a victorious life? Well I haven't looked at any porn for over 4 months. If I look back at myself 5 years ago this would have been impossible. So I have this power now to self-control. I hope to grow in this.

Am I a fraud?
At times I will ask myself this.

All believers go through trials. God never tells us that the believer will not go through trials ... what He tells us is that we will face trials and that He is with us in our trials. He works within us to comfort us, to strengthen us, to help us to stand steadfast in faith as we go through trials and afflictions.

1 Peter 5:

6 Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, that he may exalt you in due time:

7 Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you.

8 Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour:

9 Whom resist stedfast in the faith, knowing that the same afflictions are accomplished in your brethren that are in the world.

10 But the God of all grace, who hath called us unto his eternal glory by Christ Jesus, after that ye have suffered a while, make you perfect, stablish, strengthen, settle you.

11 To him be glory and dominion for ever and ever. Amen.

I think we get so focused on the trial or affliction we are going through (which 2 Cor 4:17 refers to as our light affliction, which is but for a moment) that we don't notice God is working in us to perfect, establish, strengthen, and settle us. Instead of focusing on the current outward situation we are going through, we need to turn to God and pay attention to what He is working within us as we face our trials. Somehow, just knowing God is in us working out what is needful to us, our trial/affliction becomes less stressful and our anxiety is quieted by His calming presence.

And here I thought that a dedication to edification was admirable. ;)
Me too
I have no reservation of any dedication to edification, unless sanctification is not considered alongside justification or some reiteration.

if you seek the Lord and the Holy Spirit do you really think you will not find HIM? Better to pray for healing than death and leave the come out in the Lord's hands. Does your self-control save you? Or is that the power of the Holy Spirit in your life and when you fail is that your fault of the Holy Spirits? Leading those who need Jesus to them is one of the best things a Christian can do. The empowering of the Holy Spirit enables one to be an effective witness for the Lord of HIS resurrection Acts 4:33

Notice the phrase in Acts 2:11, "our tongues." The crowds heard the Apostles preach in their own native tongues, not some unknown heavenly jibber jabber. There was NEVER any heavenly languages spoken that no one understood and required an interpreter.

There is a drastic difference between Biblical tongues and the heretical speaking in tongues we see in churches today.

The "speaking in tongues" which the Pentecostals foolishly practice are UNKNOWN tongues, not anything found on earth. Supposedly, those unknown tongues can only be interpreted by ONE spirit-filled member of the congregation.
I don't know if this has been mentioned; but 1 Corinthians 13:1-3 tells us about a heavenly language that is not known to men...tongues of angels.

I have only heard the gift of tongues one time and it was by an old friend who used be on here by the username kenisyes we had a skype bible study with others from here he has a stutter when he speaks but he lead the prayer and midway through it suddenly he had no stutter and was speaking fluent hebrew but I felt this power in his words it was like electricity going through your veins or like liquid fire flowing through you.
So I know first hand tongues is real what I don't like is when people fake it or try to speak in tongues but just utter a bunch of giberish it isn't something you can force and faking it is an insult to the holy spirit

I also have been in a church where they did that weird seizure thing you know when your possessed by the holy spirit and start acting like a fish out of water just flopping and flailing it sickens me

This doctrine only became popular after missionaries went into the field and tested their newly-acquired gift of tongues in China, Japan and India. It was an abysmal failure; none of the natives understood a thing they said.

Charles Fox Parham, the acknowledged father of the modern tongues movement, believed (rightly) that tongues were actual languages, not some angelic language. It was only after the epic failure of his missionaries that they recalibrated and came up with the "angelic" idea.

In Zephaniah we are taught that come the Kingdom our Father will give us a new tongue in order for all man to call Him with one name, one accord.

The idea of angelic tongues pre-dates those things in that it was written about in 1 Corinthians 13:1-3.

It's right there in I Corinthians 13:1-3. Paul wrote I Corinthians before the Azusa Street Revival in the early 1900s. My guess is that the idea that when Paul says, 'Though I speak in the tongues of men and of angels...' A straightforward reading is that both might be possible. After all, giving all to the poor and giving one's body to be burned, parallel ideas in the passage, are possible.

I suspect someone at Azusa Street had read the passage. If Parham insisted on human languages and had the unbiblically-supported idea that tongues were for preaching the Gospel, that does not mean no one in the movement could have read or been familiar with I Corinthians 13:1 before the revival started.

At the Azusa Street Revival and other meetings at that time, there were many people who experienced their speaking in tongues being understood as a foreign language or else understanding a tongue spoke in their language. I went through a couple of editions of 'The Apostolic Faith', the newsletter for the revival and came up with many cases of someone speaking in tongues and someone else understanding the language, somewhere between 8 and 12 in two of the later editions. One testimony was of a Canadian minister who heard someone in his group speaking in tongues in a first nations language he knew where he was raised on the opposite side of Canada from where she was from. Another language was Armenian.

Several books share testimonies of these things happening from the revival at Azusa Street, The Comforter Has Come. Fire on Azusa b Val Dez tells of a case at Azusa Street with Russian. Vinson Synan's interview with two elderly people who were children at the revival discuss the topic of real languages and one of the interviewees said what made the meetings grow is when people would come in and hear tongues in their own languages, and she mentioned a few of them.

AG Garr's experience had to do with someone saying he spoke Bengali, thought it did not sound at that time, like what he usually said when he spoke in tongues. But when he went India, he didn't speak the local language in tongues.

Biblically, there was a problem with the assumption of Parham and some of the other Pentecostals who thought they would evangelize the world in tongues. Acts 2 does not even say the disciples preached the Gospel in tongues. They spoke of the wonderful works of God, then Peter stood up and preached the Gospel.

As far as I know the idea that speaking in tongues IS the tongues of angels is not the position of any Pentecostal denomination and never has been, not any I am familiar with. There are too many testimonies of the occasional case of someone understanding speaking in tongues, the missionary who comes back and hears the language from the field spoken, or the missionary who had an experience on the field. I have spoken with four people I can think of off the top of my head who have had experiences with hearing tongues in a language they knew or being told by someone that they spoke a language they knew while speaking in tongues, and I've corresponded in the online environment with others.

Paul described the situation in church meetings in Corinth... and this is the norm... one person speaks in tongues and 'no one understandeth him', so Paul encourages interpretation to edify the church.

Sometimes our Father speaks to us without words, yet we understand, especially the instant we are first filled with the Holy spirit.

There is absolutely nothing in the Bible to suggest that angels have a different language (perhaps they communicate telepathically amongst each other).

Every recorded instance in the Bible shows them using human language (Hebrew or Aramaic). So Paul was simply speaking in a hyperbole -- just to make the point that even something that bizarre would be meaningless without charity (agape). When Paul entered the third heaven (Paradise) he understood what was being spoken, but was barred from disclosing it to the world. Possibly angels were speaking at that time.

Modern tongues is one of the most divisive doctrines around, making two tiers of Christians, and alienating those who do not speak in modern tongues (glossolalia).

I simply disagree with you. I believe that angels do have a language all their own. And there is something in the Bible to substantiate that...the passage in question (1 Corinthians 13:1-3).

Yeah, that's what you said before. I'm saying you're interpretation of this passage is illogical. The gift of tongues involves actual, known, human languages. Paul's obviously not talking about speaking in the tongues of angels because that's not what the gift of tongues is. He said this merely to make a point.

If anything, 1 Corinthians 13:1 does suggest that angels have their own language. You're interpreting scripture to make it fit your preconceived idea rather than simply understanding what it actually says.

Yes, it does.

But the rest of your post leads me to believe that you were attempting to say the opposite.

It is the reality, however, that 1 Corinthians 13:1-3 is not something that I have interpreted according to a pre-conceived notion. I have actually pulled out from the text what is inherent in the text (exegesis). I am not reading my own ideas into the text (eisegesis).
