Well as you know lately he has been moving in my life more than usual I cannot take anything from it because anything like this requires interpretation I don’t really have that gift but I do know his church is weary and more and more seem to be looking up
To me it sounds like the comfort within death for the believer.

I felt that way in real life due to pain. The exhaustion of the fight just eagerly waited for such peace.

God certainly has allowed three gifts to cease. Fortunately the rest continue.

Have you considered that preaching will also cease once we know as we are known (perfectly).

And healings will cease once all are perfectly healthy.

Teachings also cease when perfect knowledge is manifest in ALL of God's chosen.

All of these things will cease when we reach the fullness of the stature of Christ.

Ephesians 4:11-13 KJV
And he f gave some, apostles; and some, prophets; and some, evangelists; and some, pastors and teachers; [12] For the perfecting of the saints, for the work of the ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ: [13] Till we all come in h the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, unto a perfect i man, unto the measure of the stature of the fulness of Christ:

It should be noted that all of these can be caused to cease in any individual or church that refuses to allow them to function. That's why there is a standing commandment to not only allow but to covet to prophesy (the action) and do not forbid speaking in tongues.

When it's time for these things to cease, GOD will cause them to cease.

Psychos "hear" God speaking. God speaks through his word only.

“NUN. Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, And a light unto my path.” Psalm 119:105 (KJV 1900)

Love will always cause you to make the right choice.
Well i can tell you for a matter of fact that God does speak audibly but i agree it is rare. About 15 years ago something happened to me that confirms that statement. I had been struggling with a personal compulsive addiction since about the age of 7. Over the years I prayed and pleaded for deliverance for many years. I didn't know when but always believed someday God would set me free.

Then one day I was sitting at home in my rocking chair with the windows open. A strong wind came rushing in and filled the entire living room and I leaned back in my rocking chair and said "Jesus is Lord, Jesus is Lord". And just as soon as i spoke those words an audible voice from the wind above my head said "Let him be the Lord of your past as well". Then the wind quickly subsided and God took me through a number of mental exercises. I never struggled with that compulsive addiction from that moment to this day. He set me totally free from that which was controlling my life for many years.

So, yes, God does still speak but I would agree it is rare. Most of the time He speaks through a still quiet voice as He ministers to our spirit.

Wouldn't we have cell phone videos and recordings if God spoke audibly? Why did the Jews think they would die if God should speak again at Sinai?

That is not what 1 Cor 13:8-10 is addressing. If one is unable to receive the truth then they will receive deception.

Sounds so noble yet is not scriptural. It is a naked attempt to change what God has said. An attempt to make the word of God more comfortable to the desires of a heart that cannot believe.

Frankly, this is about a silly as it gets. Do you honestly think God is going to tell people to get their recording devices ready before He speaks? Do you think that the people who do hear Him speak are thinking, "I need to record this"? Honestly, man, give your head a shake.

God in His sovereignty may allow Himself to be recorded, but I doubt it. I think it far more likely, and consistent with His character, that He would not allow it. Further, He is quite capable of speaking audibly but in such a way that recording devices couldn't capture it anyway. Paul's companions didn't hear His words; they just heard something.

As to your questions about the Jews at Sinai, the answer is in the text.

Speaking of what 1 Corinthians 13:8-10 ACTUALLY says....Does it state "Currently these things have ceased", or does it ACTUALLY say (now) we know in part, and THEN (speaking of the future) those things shall cease"?

It, the current and abiding word of God, (that you claim to believe) states that we know (currently) in part. Is not YOUR claim dependent on the belief that NOW we know fully? <--Which is NOT what 1 Cor 13: 8-10 states!

Both bible and experience teach and agree that NOW we see in part, and in the future these things shall indeed cease.

What I find sadly laughable is how accurate your statements like "an attempt to make the word of God more comfortable to the desires of a heart that cannot believe" explains your comments.., because Jesus said "These signs shall follow them that believe" (not just the apostles) and "Verily, verily, (unchangeably true is it that) I say unto you, He that believeth on me, the works that I do shall he do also; and greater works than these shall he do; because I go unto my Father." If you had/have true and accurate belief, the words of Jesus would be fulfilled in you and you would not be arguing against what Jesus promised to EVERY believer.

True it is that an unbelieving heart will seek to justify itself by "attempting to make the word of God more comfortable". " It is no surprise that you've chosen to believe that only the gifts that can be easily pretended still remain. For the gift of healing to operate, God ACTUALLY has to do the work. Same with speaking in tongues, prophecy, miracles, diversities of tongues, interpretation of tongues. But all these worketh that one and the selfsame Spirit, dividing to every man (not just the apostles) severally (meaning more than one each) as he will.

Blind preachers (and false prophets) only need WORDS (no power). Don't you get tired of only having empty words and no power?? Jesus promised that when a person receives the Holy Ghost, they receive POWER, not just more words.

And along with the spirit, God promised and provides GIFTS, severally, not because he needed to show off for a short time but because he LOVES his children and wants to see them EDIFIED (individually by speaking in tongues - 1 Cor 14:4 and as a group through prophesying) HEALED (gifts of healing) as well as ALL GOOD THINGS which are too numerous to list here, but all are still promised and available until we reach the fullness of the stature of Christ.

Praise God for what He's given through Jesus Christ, and praise God for those who still believe and receive.

Love in Jesus,

1Cor 13 does say that the three gifts listed would end when the bible was completed. The old KJV English says perfect but in context it means complete. That which the apostle was writing about under inspiration of the Holy Spirit was the NT scriptures.

Historically those three gifts ended and were not part of the church until recently when a group falsely claimed them to be once again active.

Gods word is power. God has long stated that His word accomplishes that which pleases Him. God has declared that the preaching of His word is the means by which men will come to know Christ. Folks who know Christ know Him by the witness of the Holy Spirit with their spirit.

It's the old drill. Many will not believe unless they experience tongues and other miracles. This is not the way God has determined to reveal Himself. Jesus had many turn back and follow Him no more when He told them of His ministry. They wanted miracles and food for the body. John 6 It is no different today. Those who make the most grandiose claims of walking in the Spirit and speaking in tongues are the ones who are the farthest from God. I could go on but it will not change your position.

speaking from many years of experience, (since primary school) he does speak to you, you just have to listen to the word. God speaks with conviction, not from the heart. The heart can be deceiving.

I dont see your interpretation but that is okay because in completion we will no longer need interpretation or different ways to seek what is true. On that day everything will be clear.

People do syill prophesy and as for tongues while I have encountered far to many fake ones that one experience in the presence of real tongues was more than enough for me.
Tongues is a gift that is certainly not common but it does have a purpose. It is to edify encourage and strenghten and that was the only time this happened to me it was like life itself was being spoken to me.
We are in a generation that relies far to much on the spiritual yes but at the same time we also cannot let false speakers discount what God has already ordained.

untill alll things pass away the gifts will remain alive because the gifts are for the exact thing he calls us to do, edify encourage strengthen and love. tbh even I am skeptical when people claim to speak in tongues and from all the fakeness I have encountered of it I have every reason to not believe in it but we don't believe because we have seen or experienced we believe because of what we know of him.

Human wisdom and reasoning is blind to the knowledge of God's Ways, Thoughts, Desires, Love........etc....
Human wisdom and reasoning can NEVER know, love or understand God.....no matter how many miracles, videos, pictures......the human mind can NEVER know.....ONLY by the Holy Spirit do we know ANYTHING!

God is so much higher than our human minds.....we can ONLY know Him by His Word AND His Holy Spirit. How foolish to discount ANYTHING God's Holy Spirit desires to give us!

To speak against the Gift, it's The Giver of the Gift that you are speaking against..........how foolish!!

Dear Heavenly Father,

Please forgive us. Despite our foolishness, have mercy on us and do not retract any of Your gifts from us. Help us to receive by faith ALL of Your Promises.....Help us not to resist, grieve, quench or neglect Your Gift of the Holy Spirit for us. Thank You for Your Gift of Salvation for us in Christ Jesus.

Open our capacity, give us hearts that love You and renew our minds that we may know Your perfect Will. Help us Father, in the Name of Yeshua/Jesus Christ - our Savior, Lord and King, amen!(y)(y)

Lafftur,

Thanks also for your emoji's on the other posts. I was actually struggling with something not particularly related to this thread and was close to giving up. But as a last effort to avoid falling, I clicked to the site to see if by chance I would find something to encourage me and bolster my faith. To my surprise there were 10 little notification icons, (which was a surprising number for the short time I was gone) and the last 4 were yours...(A virtual bouquet of well-wishes, and beside each one your smiling face of encouragement). It really did my heart a kindness and gave me the strength I needed. Thanks for letting God use you.

It was an absolute joy to read your posts and respond to them! So glad to hear my post encouraged you, too!(y)

No worries about what people think about us....eyes on the PRIZE!! Lift up the Name of Jesus Christ - He's the Lover of our souls.....there is NO OTHER.

There's no reason to argue with a blind person, if God doesn't open their eyes.....oh well. I'm going on with Jesus....He gave us the Holy Spirit to lead us and guide us and teach us His Word, His Ways, His Thoughts, etc.......I'm not listening to ANYBODY else! I know better! lol! :giggle::love:

Paul is saying that the OT is only a part of the revelation God is giving. OT prophecy was telling of the Messiah and doing so in shadowy forms. Paul is saying that the NT now reveals Christ openly and completes what was in part in the OT.

Only three gifts are passed away. The one that is coveted is tongues and it is the one that causes most of the problems. James warned of the tongue and the damage it could do. Tongues in the OT are a sign of judgment. Think of the tower of Babel. Think how the Jews saw and heard tongues. Tongues they could not understand when they were carried away into captivity as Gods judgment against them.

Far too many today want to pray in tongues which is completely unheard of in the bible except Paul uses the expression as hyperbole to the Corinthians. You cannot get two tongues believers to give you the same definition of tongues. They cannot accurately describe them from the bible. Jesus never spoke in tongues. Apart from a witness to the Jews in Acts and a corrective address in Corinthians little is said about tongues. Today you would think the bible said little else.

God has valued His word above the whole earth. It's completion was given that men might come to a saving knowledge of Christ. We are to take the word of God and go forth to evangelize a lost and dying world.

You have a strange understanding of "hyperbole". Paul was clearly talking about literally vocalizing in another language. Your connection with James' warning is beyond silly. The fact that Jesus never spoke in tongues is utterly irrelevant.

You are treating your misreading of 1 Corinthians 13:8 as though it is Scripture. It ain't.
