How can an Atheist be angry at God when Atheist don't believe in any god at all ------just saying

The literal definition of “atheist” is “a person who does not believe in the existence of a god or any gods,” according to Merriam-Webster. And the vast majority of U.S. atheists fit this description: 81% say they do not believe in God or a higher power or in a spiritual force of any kind.

Yes this is standard ops when talking with people nowadays they LOOOOOOVE definitions.
So when i ask them about explaining to me How do they feel about an experience they had at a concert they say "It was awesome, or beautiful". Then i say that is an incorrect definition because "beautiful" is just a chemical reaction in their brain according to their beliefs and terminology which means that they're using incorrect language to describe an event.
I also tell them that this is what their definition of their beliefs allows in terms of language usage. It restricts their language.
Whearas my beliefs in God allow for far more broad language usage.

This becomes a "game" of words basically and that's when usually a light bulb goes on for the soon-to-be agnostics. The angry atheist will usually reject or leave in anger because they continue to hate God or Christianity due to personal situations in their lives.

I know God exists because I see a stark difference between animals, who don't have an ounce of evil, and humans. That the human mind are warped is consistent with the Fall and Genesis.

Moreover, evolutionary theories such as the Big Bang Theory and also athiests cannot explain in a convincing way how life began. Reasonable explanation is that God exists.

Because it's the Act or the Sin we are condemning, similarly to other sinful acts like murder, theft etc which are clearly listed in the Bible for starters and which your God-given conscience tells you that it's wrong.

This question presupposes, or at least suggests, some things that aren't true. Perhaps when our buddy maxwel has some time he will share about the psychology of the phrasing of questions. But this question seems to assume that arguments made against homosexuality are intrinsically condemning and those that pose them are doing so. All sin is against God. He is the One who condemns sin. Making that known is simply sharing truth.
Another assumption is that God created people as homosexuals. It's never stated in scripture. Homosexuality is a learned behavior. Learned behaviors become more prevalent as they are sanctioned and normalized. In this way, committing homosexual acts is no different than committing abortion or divorce.

Yeah, that would be my answer too. My nephew's wife want her gay friend to stand as her "maid of honor" at the wedding. Apparently this young man's father is a pastor and he's hiding this from his parents. My sister is so angry, my nephew is caught in the middle and his future wife is trying to make a point that Christians are judgmental. And I really don't care cause I'm this kind of person, one of the first times she came and stayed at my parents I told her I was going to pray over both of them. They were headed back home, over 2 hrs away, and I said "hope this doesn't offend you, but this is what we do here. I put my hands on both of them and asked protection. I said "Lord I don't know whether these two will continue together, or what your will is, but I pray you will be with them both as they make hard decisions ahead." If it bothered her she didn't let it show and it hasn't gotten back to me. If I feel God wants me to do something I don't care where I am or who I am with. I have a gf that has a lot of emotional problems. I met her in the Walmart and she began to tell me her problems. Then she looked at my husband and said " I know what she's gonna do!! " Yep, put my hands on her right there at the end of the snack aisle and prayed over her. I may never get another chance. I may the whole wedding into chaos. rofl

Agreed, and I think there are people that you can have an open conversation with. There are others who simply shut down and you're "phobic" and hateful and I don't know if even God can change that mindset. For some reason apparently Christians polled said they were afraid to answer this question.

The way the question is posed is as if one is guilty already. This is a tactic people use to make people seem defensive and not answer. It's kind of like asking someone if they have stopped beating their wife.

Jesus died for their sins (but that proves they are sinning), so, if they repent, turn from their error, they can also have eternal life.

1.) I think Cameron's answer was good... these kinds of questions are always full of presuppositions.


2.) As soon as we address the underlying presuppositions, we usually find these questions starting to crumble.


3.) I'll just add a few thoughts about the presumption of God's culpability:

A.) People will say, "God made me this way, I HAVE to live a gay lifestyle, it's my biology."
- I think the most the "biology argument" could possible come up with, maybe, perhaps, at most, is a "predisposition" to have an inclination toward something or away from something.
- If this predisposition does exist, we are left with the uncomfortable fact that a predisposition does not actually CAUSE anything.
- I have a predisposition toward chocolate ice cream rather than vanilla... that doesn't CAUSE me to eat chocolate ice cream, or even to eat any ice cream at all.
* Conclusion:
God does not MAKE you do anything - even if it does turn out there is some kind of predisposition toward something... a predisposition doesn't CAUSE anything.

B.) People will say, "AHA! If God gave me a predisposition, if he just gave me that little predisposition, that alone proves God intended me to have a gay lifestyle! Why else would I have this predisposition!"
- There could be many reasons, other than biology, to have a predisposition.
- Also, an "inclination" of some kind does not prove a biological predisposition... there are many reasons to have inclinations... many of them psychological, or self induced.
- Finally: Even if there is a biological predisposition of some kind, that does not mean God wants you to succumb to it. We could just as easily suppose it's there because our bodies and biology are "fallen", and it's an "aberration" which God expects you to OVERCOME.
God gives us many obstacles to overcome in order to grow spiritually.
* Conclusion:
If there is a predisposition, if there is.... that is still not proof God want's someone to live a gay lifestyle.

C.) People will say, "The gay lifestyle causes me nothing but pain, I'd never choose pain if I didn't have to.... that proves God made me this way."
- Doing something which causes you pain, or grief, proves nothing of the sort.
- People do things every day that cause them tremendous trouble, grief, pain, and torment... and they willing do these things.
- We find people taking drugs that destroy their health and their life, we find people breaking laws that land them in prison and destroy their lives, we find people WILLINGLY doing all manner of things which harm and destroy them.
* Conclusion:
When you do something that causes you pain, that does not prove you HAD to do it, and God made you that way... people harm themselves every day.



Conclusion:
For millennia, people have done whatever they pleased, and then made some excuse to blame it on God.
Same old thing.

I condemn homosexuality because God condemns homosexuality. He made us all with a free will, with strengths and weaknesses. We're to use our strengths for the works He's appointed us to, and our weaknesses as challenges to make us stronger in character and faith.

So for a person who has a weakness towards homosexuality, God wants that person to overcome that weakness. He condemns it especially because many of the people who commit this sin tend to want to force everyone to accept it as not sin. It's the only sin I can think of where a group actively tries to do that. I mean murderers for example know that what they're doing is sin - you don't see any of them actively trying to change society's view of that.

I would acknowledge the fact that God loves everyone, and that He doesn't hate gays. I would also acknowlege that a gay person may be unable to control how he feels or that his feelings may be unintentional. It is not always a learned behavior (like what may happen in jail). Usually a gay person like a gay teenager is suprised and taken aback when he finds out he has these feelings, and there is a period of questioning and maybe even denial. On whether God made gay people, we can acknowlege that perhaps they are predisposed this way the same way some people are biologically and genetically predisposed to behaviorial (alcoholicism) and psychiatric issues. The fault is more on the ancestors not God. Such research is not conclusive but to me personally it would not be surprising, because there are some very masculine women and very feminine men even if they are straight. Finally, you can say as a Christian you believe in the Bible which outlines rules of behavior, which you do not believe are negotiable. It is God who decides what is good and bad.

Yes, it's part of a poll of question that Christians said they are afraid to answer. No worries, I was just wondering if it was something I had said. No, I don't agree with homosexuality and I don't have a problem telling anyone why if they question me. Perhaps that's why some churches are caving to this behavior. They don't know how to confront or don't want to people who are living the homosexual lifestyle.

It opens our eyes and helps us grow. It causes us to see our need and total dependence upon Him. Many of us need to fall out of our saddles and have thorns in our side to keep us attuned to His still small voice.

“The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.”

Better to suffer in this life than perish in the next.

As usually happens I was looking up something on the internet and came across something that took my attention. The title of the book, the title to this thread, caught my interest. As Christians sometimes we have pat answers, or sometimes we don't have an answer when someone asks a question. I try to be well read on these questions that may perhaps come my way. I thought it might be interesting to see how some of these questions would be answered here in the BDF. If it get's too far afield I will drag it back to topic. Think that you are answering a new Christian, or someone who knows nothing about the Bible. You're not giving your answer to me, let's pretend a little, how would you answer these questions to someone who never opened the Bible, been to church or knows Christ. Ready??


Question One - How Can a Good God Allow so Much Suffering?

And... go!

Humans went there own way, disobeying God. Suffering came into the world through Adam and Eve sinning and then this taint going on thru all of us.

So first off... God didn't bring it in...we did thru listening to deception by Satan.

Second .. we do have free will. So God knew we would do this, but He didn't make robots. He lovingly created us so we could choose good over evil.

Finally.. the suffering is temporary. So Satan, with death and the dragon.. will be vanquished. Jesus, who was foretold to have victory in the end... had it at the cross, by His death and resurrection and will finally have it completely at the very end.

So when we suffer, God is in that thru Jesus..feeling it with us. Allowing it because of our free will and often so we can learn.
