The modern church and the "Sinners Prayer"- True or false teaching?

What is traditionally known as the sinners prayer dates back to Billy Sunday, the prayer itself is nearly 200 years old.

There is no thing in scripture that refers to what is called a sinners prayer. The idea actually conflicts with John 9:31
We know that God doesn't listen to sinners, but he is ready to hear those who worship him and do his will.

All people did during Jesus ministry and the Apostles missionary mission in order to become saved was to repent, be baptized, hold faith, and live for God.
They did not utter a sinners prayer as if that is what saves. And they are then saved from that time on.
One of the biggest examples of this apostasy , which is really what the sinners prayer is, is Joel Osteen.
He closes his show giving his own sinners prayer version. And near all 30 thousand congregants say it with him. But then he states, if you recited this prayer we believe you are saved. Get into a good Bible believing church.....
That isn't how people are saved. He's leading countless numbers to die in their sins for believing him. And not the actual scriptures.

Acts 2:38 Peter replied, “Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. And you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.

It's not apostasy. It might not be 100% scriptural but then neither is hiring a church staff, or church softball teams, or church camp. We do lots of things out of tradition in the church that could probably be improved upon, but they're not part of some end time falling away. Lots of people get truly saved through the sinner's prayer, so apparently God doesn't have as big a hangup about it as some people do.
