Aren't pretty much all holidays celebrated for erroneous reasons?

It is ok to celebrate earthly holidays such as birthdays or the forth of July, as long as it does not go against God. Like Mardi Gras definitely goes against God. People celebrate by getting drunk and wearing a different necklace symbolizing each person they had sex with that night.

Although like you said, it is not a command. But any day is a good day to celebrate Christ. And any time is a good time to talk to people about anything in scripture- the birth of Christ is in scripture. I think it is a great welcome mat to start up a conversation about Christ.

To a christian every day is Christmas and every Sunday is Easter, so to me the only thing wrong with it is that it's once a year instead of every day.

what about the non christians in the whole world, who do not believe even in God.

but celebrate the days, like christmas, do todays kids even deserve presents these days.

what about all those adults that lie to there kids about these celebrations.

this time of year the merchants makes masses of money, and everyone goes deeper in debt.

has the most family disputes, all kinds of crimes, and suicides also proceeds this celebration.
Oh, good gravy. That's like saying, "I'm not going to make friends because I may lose them." Don't stop celebrating the good just because some people do evil or because bad things happen.

The Puritans rightly dropped it.
But the deeper thing is .................. it's between the Lord and
you

God made the moon for seasons, rome change to a solar calinder.

on newyears day , most common to make a resulation or give an oath to do something.

this is againest the bibles teaching.
LOL the moon is no good to keep us in sync with seasons, whereas the sun is ideal. God in fact arranged for BOTH.

I would rather that pagans were celebrating the birth of Christ rather than the glory of the Sun. At least it makes it a season of goodwill. But for Christians, Christmas is what you make it.

-do you have a verse that says the sun is our calander to use?

He appointed the moon for seasons: the sun knoweth his going down.

Blow up the trumpet in the new moon, in the time appointed, on our solemn feast day.

Likewise the people of the land shall worship at the door of this gate before
the Lord in the sabbaths and in the new moons.

And it shall come to pass, that from one new moon to another, and from one sabbath to another,
shall all flesh come to worship before me, saith the Lord.

catholic church made easter not to celebrate Christ, but to follow roman ways.

Antiquity of the Roman Mass[why made easter]

It is still redolent of that liturgy, of the days when Caesar ruled the world
and thought he could stamp out the faith of Christ, when our fathers met together
before dawn and sang a hymn to Christ as to a God.

I see nothing wrong with celebrating Easter or Christmas. Christmas is the "Christ-Mass" after all.
Amen to this. Every day is a gift from God therefore every day is Christmas. And since Jesus is Risen once and for all, every day is also Easter. That about sums it up for me.

Not as a christian but as an outsider and after researching the origins of xmas and easter bunny hop hop I don't celebrate them because it is just one big huge pagan festival and I don't really see myself as pagan, it's a commercial money making machine as well, but each to their own i guess.

Most of them are man made, in fact most of the popular one's are pagan/secular by origin, they are pagan secular festivities and christianity has adopted it as its own, lol.

Absolutely we should celebrate both.

They are known world wide, I wonder what would have happened to the
spreading of the gospel message without these reminders (phew it's far
too warm to be talking about Christmas).

Besides why should the devil be allowed his many celebrations,
Halloween, summer solstice, mischievous night etc - but not God.

Besides God was big on celebrations and times of remembrance.
If it's good enough for God, it's good enough for me.:)

Ps lets hijack all the pagan and satanic celebrations and turn them
all on their head. Let's make them all about Jesus I say!

Do you, as a Christian, celebrate christmas or easter and what do you think of it?

Christmas
Fact #1
The Bible never mentions the word "christmas", neither does it ask us to celebrate something on December 25th.

Fact #2
"But I only celebrate it to honor Him..." The only way to remember Jesus is the way He asked us, of course:

And when he had given thanks, he brake it, and said, Take, eat: this is my body, which is broken for you: this do in remembrance of me.

After the same manner also he took the cup, when he had supped, saying, This cup is the new testament in my blood: this do ye, as oft as ye drink it, in remembrance of me.
For as often as ye eat this bread, and drink this cup, ye do shew the Lord's death till he come.
- 1 Cor 11:24-26

Fact #3
December 25th used to be the day on which the sun god was worshiped in the Roman empire. It was not the date of birth of Christ.

Easter
Fact #1
The Bible never mentions the word "easter", neither does it ask us to celebrate something on the first Sunday after the first full moon of spring.

Fact #2
The word "easter" in Acts 12:4 is transliterated from the Greek word for Pasha. The word "easter" is derived from "eostre/eastre" of the Babylonian pagans.

Fact #3
If we should be celebrating a specific feast, God would have definitely put it in His Word to make sure. After all, all the feasts the Jews celebrate each year are found in the Bible. They are: 1. Passover, 2. Unleavened bread, 3. Firstfruits, 4. Pentecost, 5. Feast of trumpets, 6. Day of atonement, 7. Feast of tabernacles.

Yet, we can't find a verse that states:
"Behold! The Lord thy God hath made thee an appointed time to remember the lamb which was slain for mankind; it shall be at the twelfth month and on the twenty fifth day of the month that ye shall have a feast and on it ye shall eat, and ye shall drink, and ye shall take a tree for thy house and shall put it there as an ornament. This hath the Lord of hosts spoken, and ye shall do it as I am the Lord thy God."

Both christmas as well as easter have no origin in the Bible, neither did the first apostles celebrate these feasts.
Do you celebrate them and what are your thoughts on it?

No hate comments please! Show me where I have stated something that is a lie. Show me where it says in the Bible we should celebrate christmas or easter the way many Christians do.
I believe that it is proper to commemorate the Lord's birth; but, I believe that the proper time to commemorate it is the first day of Sukkot (Tabernacles). I believe that is the reason that observance of Sukkot will be mandatory during the Millennium. (Zec 14:16-18)

I believe that we should commemorate Jesus' resurrection on the Sunday after passover. I believe that we should call the day either Firstfruits, or Resurrection Sunday. I believe that we should separate ourselves from all association with bunnies, eggs, and fertility rites; and from Pagan association with Oestern (Astarte, Ishtar).

Christmas and Easter were originaly Pagan Festivals. During the first centuries the church was busy converting Pagans to Christianity. In order to attract them to the faith their festivals were Christianised. Some of the Saints days and pilgrimage sites got the same treatment. Unless you intend to worshiip the Goddess Astarte or the God Saturn on these holidays dont worry about it. The days of the week are named after Pagan Gods and Goddesses ie Monday, Moon, Tuesday, Tiu,Wednesday Woden, Thursday, Thor, Friday,Frigg,Saturday, Saturn and Sunday,Sol A number of our Months are named after Roman Emporers. Its just something we have to live with.

I do not celebrate either of them.

I celebrate God's Feast Days instead. They are far more meaningful than the other 2.

You're 3 months late with your Easter stir up and 5 months early with your Christmas stir up. Come back with it again when December hits, because I know most people don't think about such things in the middle of July.
I think that the question is good, but you should make some improve in your manners.

I do not celebrate Christmas or Easter.

What's awesome about Christianity is Freedom.

A Christian has freedom to celebrate Christmas and Easter.

They have freedom to not celebrate Christmas or Easter.

Either choice makes very little difference. The reasons behind the decisions are interesting, but in the long run make little difference as well.

Christians think of Christ a lot. I think this is especially true on Christmas and Easter. It can be just as true with the feast days. But then people can get caught up in the celebration instead of who they are celebrating both with Christmas and Easter and the feast days.

Marcr Surely it depends on your intentions. As I said in my last reply do we or most people for that matter celebrate Easter and Christmas because they are Pagan Festivals? When we buy a Calender do we really buy it because it has Pagan months and days on it? Of course not.
