There are a number of studies out there, but many are journal-type papers. For actual books, I would start with William Samarin (Tongues of Men and Angels - the Religious Language of Pentecostalism) and Felicitas Goodman (Speaking in Tongues - A Cross-Cultural Study of Glossolalia). Samarin was a linguist, Goodman an anthropologist.

Yeah, my point made.

That’s not in the Bible.
Jesus showed us it was by the Holy Spirit He cast out demons. even when saying, in the Name of Jesus, we are still casting out Demons by the Holy Spirit. the Holy Spirit edifies those Speaking in Tongues. People casting demons need to be Edified!

The language of tounges is a devine eloquence, how ever it is described, it's still a devine eloquence.

It's an empathy that has devine nature within the word.

As the spirit is in the word.

When I speak in tongues, it is a very resonant syllable sound that sounds like I am speaking GREEK, HEBREW, LATIN, CHINESE, JAPANESE, SPANISH, ALL AT THE SAME TIME... for just ONE SYLLABLE SOUND. Anyone else pray in tongues like this? I know english, spanish, chinese, and japanese, and when I pray in tongues it makes sense in all 4 languages individually. The sentences are varied in vocabulary meaning, but the miraculous part of it is that in ENGLISH, SPANISH, JAPANESE, AND CHINESE, the main point of each language meaning in this praying in tongues sentence is THE SAME, but in MULTIPLE LANGUAGES!

I have had someone who knew English, and didn't know Chinese, and someone who knew Chinese and didn't know English, and they said they heard "The song is hilariously funny and loving" in their own language, one in English, and the other in Chinese. And when we got a person gifted with the supernatural gift of the Holy Spirit of interpretation of tongues (2 people by the way in separate rooms, not sharing among each other), he and she said THE INTERPRETATION was "The song is hilariously funny and loving!" EXACTLY THE SAME!

ISN'T THIS CRAZY AMAZING!?

From my experience, supernatural praying in tongues should not be just gibberish, but can be understood by people also in their own language (Acts 2) and also with help of gift of interpretation of tongues (1 Corinthians 14). If it is missing either, it is not the full supernatural gift of praying in tongues according to your very own bible.

Anyone else pray like this?!

I, as a multi-lingual polyglot, definitely agree that the Holy Spirit definitely trumps whatever language learning and skill that I have EVER LEARNED, SPOKE, OR HEARD, OR PRACTICED. (AND I KNOW 4 LANGUAGES!) PRAISE BE TO GOD!

ALLELUIA!

Where in the hell do you come up with this stuff?
You’re NOT helping.
not where you can't discover that Jesus is not God!

i am taking the liberty of how it could look like if someone, being given utterance and cannot speak but only can moan would like.

if 12 Apostles made such a scene people thought they were drunk, it seems reasonable moaning in the spirit ain't sitting on your butt like a poised man.

No need to keep arguing this with you. You're doing a very good job of making yourself look like an idiot. No help needed from me.
hmmm… not sure if that was inspired utterance or not.

naaaaa…

Here are five examples of transcribed tongues-speech (sorry, it's all in a loosely done IPA, so if you're not familiar with IPA, it may not help much).

Tongues-speech is not written; however, it can be transcribed.

each example you've provided, do you know the natural language of each example?

just trying to sound these out and it is nothing i've ever heard and i've been in huge Church Assemblies like Dwight Thompson, Lester Sumrall, RJ Shambauch, etc...big 5k seating arena's full of people Speaking in Tongues. when i am not Speaking in Tongues in big congregations like this, i walk around watching others. i am always looking for a FAKE....nope, always wanting to see what God is doing that i can't see from where i was.

My God is the God and Father of the Lord Jesus Christ.

I’m a Christian. I hope everyone here is, too.
you don't believe Jesus is the WORD, you don't accept that the foretold name of the MESSIAH in Jeremiah is YHWH and pre-incarnate Jesus said to Moses He was that plus also Elohim, Yahweh, MOST HIGH GOD, LORD, TO BE....you don't believe none of that, so NO WAY are you a Christian, in the TRUE sense as someone whose Jesus is as I mentioned, GOD!

you reject God made flesh is Jesus
you reject Emmanual, God with us is the literal meaning of GOD with us
every time it's possible to claim Jesus is God, YOU reject it.
NO, you are NOT the same as the true Followers of Christ on this Forum!

Even though you're ignorantly practicing idolatry, I still believe you're a Christian.

There is one God, the Father (1 Cor 8:6), who is "the only true God" (John 17:3), the God Jesus has and the God he ascended to (John 20:17).

Get THEE Behind me, in the Name of Jesus, who is GOD!
John 17:3 And this is life eternal, that they might know thee the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom thou hast sent.

1 Cor 8:6 But to us there is but one God, the Father, of whom are all things, and we in him; and one Lord Jesus Christ, by whom are all things, and we by him.

John 8:40 But now ye seek to kill me, a man that hath told you the truth, which I have heard of God: this did not Abraham.

John 20:17 Jesus saith unto her, Touch me not; for I am not yet ascended to my Father: but go to my brethren, and say unto them, I ascend unto my Father, and your Father; and to my God, and your God.

I hope that one day you'll take those verses to heart.

God made Jesus both Lord and Christ:

Acts 2:36 Therefore let all the house of Israel know assuredly, that God hath made that same Jesus, whom ye have crucified, both Lord and Christ.
