Pistis is the Greek word translated" Faith " in the English. Pistis is used 245 times and is a noun.

Pistis, has a corresponding verb, " pisteuo." Pisteuo is used 248 times in the NT.

When the translators needed a corresponding verb to the noun Faith, there wasn't one. The words they needed to translate pisteuo correctly are faithe, faither, and faithing. Because those words are not in the English language, they had to choose other words, a secondary choice.

The words they chose are believe, believer, and believing. These words are not corresponding verbs to the noun Faith, they are corresponding verbs to the noun Belief.

True NT saving Faith is a verb! A verb is a specific act, based upon a specific belief, sustained by a specific kind of confidence.

So as you can see, belief or believing is a part of pisteuo,but taken on it's own is an error.

True NT pisteuo specifically is found in the Vines Greek dictionary. Pisteuo is "A personal surrender to Him and a life inspired by such surrender."

You couldn't be more correct! Because pisteuo couldn't be translated into the English language, we've lost the entire understanding of how an act of Faith,"pisteuo" is applied.

Faith or Faithing is something we do hundreds of times every day. Each act of faithing has its own specific act, specific belief, and a specific kind of confidence. Each one also has a specific object of Faith.

We were created to be faithers, that all we do all day long.

My question is: In your eyes, is a daily surrendering of our lives to God and living a life that supports that committment to God a works based salvation? An addition to the work Christ did on the cross?

Keeping in mind, if the daily surrendered life is genuine, the life nolonger belongs to the surrenderer, but to God. So the work and effort would be mostly courage (what Christ repeatedly tells His flock to have) about 90%. And about 4% tinacity, and 1% everything else.

Is this description a work that adds to Grace, the finished work of Christ on Calvary?

The Strongs expanded gives the disclaimer, "pisteuo means NOT just to believe!"
The Strong's also says pisteuo is reliance upon, committed to, to commit into, be committed to.

The Vines says, " a personal surrender to Him and a life inspired by such surrender".

The Vines is just more specific. And practicing this description of faithing or pisteuo for over 33years, the Vines is right on the mark!

The problem is when they attempt to include the mistranslated words believe, believer, and believing, they weaken the correct definition. They gave to, those mistranslated words are used 248 times.
