should we read things in context, and read the Gospels as books and the letters as letters. beware of anyone who makes statements and then just plucks out verses to back up that statement. this is miss use of God's Word. this is trying to control how things are seen, instead of being clear and truthful.
I see both sides of this thread doing this and not just one side.

It would seem this thread took a uturn to life after salvation and if that needs to be discussed it should be a different thread and not on this one, when the OP clearly defined it was about salvation.

"In Him" there is no sin.

BUT IN YOU THERE IS SIN.

I can prove it:

Romans 13:9 (CSBBible)
[SUP]9 [/SUP] The commandments, Do not commit adultery; do not murder; do not steal; do not covet; and any other commandment, are summed up by this commandment: Love your neighbor as yourself.

If one of your neighbors goes to bed hungry, you have FAILED TO:
love your neighbor as yourself.

If one of your neighbors is in fianancial difficulty and you do not give him
your savings, you have FAILED TO:
love your neighbor as yourself.

If one of your neighbors is sick and you do not go to his house to ask how
you can help, you have FAILED TO:
love your neighbor as yourself.

If one of your neighbors is in the Hospital and you do not visit him and take care
of his yard until he is better, you have FAILED TO:
love your neighbor as yourself.

If one of your neighbors is in jail and you do not visit him and offer to pay for his
bail and legal fees, you have FAILED TO:
love your neighbor as yourself.

If one of your neighbors asks to borrow money and you make excuses
not to loan it to him, you have FAILED TO:
love your neighbor as yourself.

If one of your neighbors has a car quits working and you do not loan him your
second car or give it to him, you have FAILED TO:
love your neighbor as yourself.

etc., etc., etc. See you sin all the time.

I agree with this. myself, and a few others constantly get accused of " defending sin ". if you admit truth, you might be called the same.

some on here have little use of truth, they are trying to advance a agenda-based teaching . I have read the Bible through around 20 times. I do not say this to boast, I say this because I understand context, and rightly dividing the Words Of Truth.

I have no agenda, except being as truthful as I can.

There is no defense of sin, if you understand that grace gives you power over it. It does not mean you will ever be sinless or perfect. It just means you are growing each day to keep it from entangling you any more Like Hebrews 12:1-2 says.

I violated myself here in my response to VCO.

If that were true, then He is not our example to follow.
He had extra weapons to fight against sin.

Php 2:3 Do not act out of selfish ambition or conceit, but with humility think of others as being better than yourselves.

Php 2:4 Do not be concerned about your own interests, but also be concerned about the interests of others.

Php 2:5 Have the same attitude among yourselves that was also in the Messiah Jesus:

Amen! Sabbath keeping with all it's rules and regulations, was part of a covenant with Israel under the Old Covenant that is not binding on Christians under the New Covenant. Colossians 2:16 - Therefore no one is to act as your judge in regard to food or drink or in respect to a festival or a new moon or a Sabbath day 17 things which are a mere shadow of what is to come; but the substance belongs to Christ.

Even when Sabbatarians set out to worship on the Sabbath, they aren’t truly "keeping the Sabbath." To "keep the Sabbath" as it was required in the Old Testament would involve compliance with regulations (Exodus 16:23; 35:3; Leviticus 23:32; Jeremiah 17:21) that were strictly enforced. If Sabbath-day observances are still required, so would the burnt offerings which went along with them (Leviticus 19:30; 23:2-3; Numbers 28:1-10; 29:39-40; I Chronicles. 23:30-31; II Chronicles 31:2-4; Isaiah 1:13). These were commanded by God to the sons of Israel.

If the seventh-day Sabbath is still in affect, then why do not the Sabbatarians seek to obey ALL that the LORD commanded? How can a person say he keeps a certain law when he keeps only part of it?

If the Sabbath-day laws were still in effect today, then according to Exodus 31:12-18; 35:1-3; and Numbers 15:32-36, anyone who profaned the Sabbath was put to death and any person who does any work on it, that person shall be cut off from his people. Who is going to enforce that? The Jewish synagogue? The Seventh-day Adventist church? Or the Government? Since we do not live under a theocratic state as ancient Israel did, no Sabbatarian can live consistently under the Mosaic regulations.

The moral precepts of the Ten Commandments are repeated under the New Covenant, but not the command to keep the Sabbath.

1. You shall have no other gods before Me. - Acts 14:15
2. You shall make no idols. - 1 John 5:21
3. You shall not take the name of the Lord your God in vain. - James 5:12
4. Keep the Sabbath day holy. - Not binding on the Church - Colossians 2:16-17
5. Honor your father and your mother. - Ephesians 6:1-2
6. You shall not murder. - Romans 13:9-10; 1 John 3:15
7. You shall not commit adultery. - Romans 13:9-10; 1 Corinthians 6:9-10
8. You shall not steal. - Romans 13:9-10; Ephesians 4:28
9. You shall not bear false witness against your neighbor. - Romans 13:9-10; Colossians 3:9-10
10. You shall not covet. - Romans 13:9-10; Ephesians 5:3

Average January Temperatures in Jerusalem are between 45 - 50 degrees F. I live in Nebraska, where the low temperature for the day in January frequently has a minus sign in front of it. And it is not unusual to see some days where the Wind Chill factor is -45 degrees below 0 F. Try to keep that Sabbath Law to the letter in any of the North country regions of this world, and your Pipes will freeze and burst.

Here is what happens when the furnace is off, and pipes in a house freeze and burst:

Now you are sounding like a Pharisee, hunting for an excuse to not be obedient, while continuing to feel Holy and Sinless.

The Point is GOD's Standards are higher than any Mortal can KEEP perfectly.

The point of my post is concerning emulate. A desire to be equal or to surpass....by ones own strength and works.

The scriptures clearly state that our salvation is continually being worked out, and the process is through the scriptures and the power or ability of Holy Spirit, the Spirit of grace.

Jesus finished His work. Positionally, we receive His finished work, but experiencially is every day through faith that we are dead to sin, alive to God.

This doesnt make us perfect, but being perfected or to become mature. A "father" in the faith according to 1John, and patterning self after Paul. Or "mother".

Nor, does it mean that this is done perfectly since we have a soul conditioned to the world. Our soul does not become one with what our Spirit receives all at the beginning of our walk.

And if one is truly honest in heart, one would confess that humanity will always fall short of His glory, but as a body, we get to share it.

Being one with Him is to have Him through His Spirit, flow through us in words of power and acts of love.

A review on this post founded in 1 John 1:7 is another major blunder to those who adhere, claim and teaches sinless perfectionism. Let’s see what the scripture of truth says:
1 John 1:7 But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin.
Is it true that in the light as the post says, all our sin have been washed away? Does the passage really tell us that being in the light is a means for the washing away of our sins? An error leads to another error.
I don't know how you came to that conclusion, as I didn't write that the "light" cleanses us from ALL sin.
I said that "in the light ALL our sins have been washed away".
To be in God, (light), requires us to have been cleansed already...by the blood of Christ.

1) The passage is clear that the cleansing of our sins is through the blood of Jesus. To shun the truth of Christ’s blood is to deny its efficacy.
I agree.

2) The Bible leaves no doubt, that the blood of Christ washed us from our sins. In one point in time when Christ poured His blood as sacrificial lamb.
I agree again, and add that "the point in time" is when we are "immersed" into Christ's death.

Revelation 1:5 And from Jesus Christ, who is the faithful witness, and the first begotten of the dead, and the prince of the kings of the earth. Unto him that loved us, and washed us from our sins in his own blood,
3) Being in the light is simply walking in fellowship with him. Together or along with others who are walking in the light is to have fellowship with one another, thus practical not necessarily positional.

Agreed and agreed.

4) “Cleanseth” is in
Tense: Present
Mood: Indicative
Voice: Active
Indicative Mood
The indicative mood is a statement of fact or an actual occurrence from the writer's or speaker's perspective… It may be action occurring in past, present, or future time.
Greek Verbs (Shorter Definitions)
It is indicative mood which means the action may occur in the past, present or future time indicating the ‘blood’ of Jesus is available and efficacious all the time.
Yep: he wrote it in the first century and was/is effective for me in the twentieth century.

It is efficacious to the sinner believing in Christ for his salvation.
It is also efficacious to all saints who some time may falter in their Christian walk yet confessing their sins, that the blood of Jesus ‘cleanseth’ (present) them of their sins and will restore them in a good fellowship with God and one to another.
Hi, Fred.
I appreciate your participation.
As to your summation, doesn't the "faltering" man manifest by his sin that he wasn't in the light ?
You must remain in the light for that "cleansing" to be manifested.
Perhaps his next repentance will be the real one, the one where he "turns from"sin, and he will henceforth remain in the light.
We hope.

AMEN...the bible is replete with verses that are aimed at the saved children of God who fail and sin and what they are to do when they sin, it also contains verses that deal whit CHILDREN who are chastised and why, and the saved who fail to get right and what happens to them<---like the Corinthian brother and or the prodigal.......ALL who push this sinless farce are not only deceived, but have no truth in them...........at the end of the day they are no different than the Pharisees of old who claimed to be able to see.......
Obedience to God is a sign of our rebirth from Godly seed.
It is a sign of the death of the old man and our resurrection with Christ to walk in newness of life.
It is a sign of our walking in light.
It is a sign of our walking in the Spirit instead of in the flesh.
It is a sign of our faith.

What is ongoing sin a sign of?

whoa, please don't tell her that. please don't say that to anyone, but i ask in this instance because i love her!
If you are trying to be funny, it isn't working.

there is NO work man can do to merit God's salvation. full stop!
God only accepts perfection; He has every right to, as Perfect and Holy God.
no one's works are perfect, thus NO ONE can merit what only God can give.
Do you consider those reborn of Godly seed as mere men?
Were it so, I could agree with you.
But the reborn have the Holy Ghost in them to guide and protect them.
They have a divine nature that has replaced the one one of self-service to the flesh.

i heard a young man ask a preacher if in failing to love God with ALL our heart, ALL our strength and ALL our mind means we're actually sinning every moment of the day.
the preacher smiled and said, yes.
so don't lower the bar of God's perfect standard to the point of our own performance. we fall short of it.
If that is your confession, the next thing you should do is repent of all sin forever, get baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of your past sins and ask God for the gift of the Holy Ghost.
If your repentance wasn't a lie, you will walk in the light till your last day.

Thank God for the redemption that is found in Christ.
There is no sin in Christ,so to be in Christ requires a true repentance from sin.
May God bless and protect you on your new walk in Christ.

Amen! John 17:3 - And this is eternal life, that they know you the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom you have sent, which is an intimate, experiential knowledge, found only in a relationship. The term "know" implies intimate, experiential knowledge, through a relationship with Him, not merely theoretical knowledge. :)
Agreed.
It is written..."If we say that we have fellowship with him, and walk in darkness, we lie, and do not the truth:" (1 John 1:6)
There's no fellowship with God while in the darkness/sin.

should we read things in context, and read the Gospels as books and the letters as letters. beware of anyone who makes statements and then just plucks out verses to back up that statement. this is miss use of God's Word. this is trying to control how things are seen, instead of being clear and truthful.
Got a scripture for that?
