Oh, I see what you're saying. I said that on May 27th. I thought this was the thread that got shut down, but it's another thread, similar name. I thought they got rid of a bunch of its pages and started over.

Anyhow, I stand by my statement in spite of any who may try to find fault or a text to negate its truths, pitting Scripture against Scripture, failing 2 Timothy 2:15. Paul also mentions this same warning in other epistles, and I'm sure they understood this truth. I know you understand it as well. I recall John Piper discussing this issue with a woman in his church. It's amazing how God used this truth in the life of that professing believer to bring her to true repentance. What a testimony it is!

Nevertheless there is a huge difference between believers knowing they sin and practicing (literally "to set up shop") to live in sin. Some need discernment to make this distinction, but that is God's department, not mine, all we can do is offer up these truths. 1 Corinthians 2:12-16 is a good passage about this issue.

If we obey God He is not in our debt. If a child obeys his father and puts his bike away in the garage, the father doesn’t owe the boy or girl something.
But that Father doesn't disown the child for not obeying and ultimately cast them into a lake of fire for all eternity.

He might spank them, send them to their room for the evening, take away their x-box, but NOT disown them.

You know why? BECAUSE THEY ARE HIS KIDS!!!!

Even as a born again if we sin and keep doing the same old sin.....there will be consequences....and quite rightly so....

What happens if you keep sleeping with your boyfriend?.......as a born again?..I’m not judging just asking.

Its sad how this fact seems to anger some people

As I said earlier. If we met God right now we would fall on our face in fear as our true sinfulness will be exposed.

SO how dare we judge others.

Yes, and if we are without chastening we are illegitimate and not true children.

Anyone who has been chastened knows it is not a walk in the park

again, I asked us all to look deep inside ourselves. Do we wake up every day and thank God we have not gotten what we deserve?

A repeat of my post. Because I know I need to hear it. I pray we all do

An issue with sin is this. All of us continue to sin. John says if we claim we are without sin, we deceive ourselves.

If we stood in front of God today. We, like Daniel, and John, and lets not forget Isaiah, who was horrified, and called himself a man of unclean lips. We would instantly realize just how sinful we really are, Christian growth is a process. The closer we get to God. the MORE sinful we should see ourselves as the truth of our sinfulness is deeper exposed (not that we sin more, but that our sin is exposed to us in a far deeper way)

I think the problem is we all make the same mistake the jew's made. We look to the law. And we say, Well I do not commit these sins, or I do not do those things which are unlawful. So i must be a pretty righteous person. Instead of allowing the spirit of God teach is personally the real sin issues we all have in our lives. Which goes far deeper than the law can even begin to take us. So we see ourselves as ok. Or worse yet (And I did this for years) we do see our sin but we do not like it. So we hide it, or look for people who have worse sins that us (like sexual sin) and start judging and calling them out. Declaring they could not be saved, or lost salvation (really in my book the same thing in this context) yet because they do not commit those sins, we are ok. We can still have our sin and hide it, we are saved, and the pressure is taken off us. This is also the danger of legalism. It has brought a many down so that they finally leave, and made others so self aware and worried that all they do is judge others. while completely ignoring their sin.

We all have our sin issues.

For some it is pride. Others is it something sexual. Others it is money, or fame, or just having the attitude that no one is going to tell me what to do. I am my own man, I will chose who to be nice too. and who does not deserve anything from me.. There are so many sin issues I can not even come close to naming them all here. and I am sure I do not even know them all. as I am still learning..

We see examples of Paul. A pharisee of all pharisees. Who although according to the law in his day was righteous, Yet the closer he grew to God the more sinful he realized he really was.. Oh what a wretched man I AM!..

Can we all come to this? Can we start to see ourselves as God does. Or does it scare us? How can we grow if we do not see our own sin, while continually judging and attacking others for their sins?

As james said, If we keep the WHOLE law yet STUMBLE in one point (to stumble means it was something that takes us by surprise or we tripped over something thus it tripped us up) we are found guilty of the whole law.

If just STUMBLING in one area makes us guilty before God and worthy of death. How can any of us claim we are more worthy of salvation than anyone else. As an old pastor of mine was apt to say. Any day I wake up and I am not in Hell (where i deserve to be) is a good day.

Maybe we all need to take this attitude. It would help us take focus off self. and direct us to loving others. Which is the means of Growth.. Seek after the things of the spirit, and obey the greatest of commands. Which is to love god and others.. In this, may the light of Christ show through us.

I know I have failed and continue to many times. May I myself grow in this area.. May God bless us all

Amen! Hebrews 12:8 (AMPC) - Now if you are exempt from correction and left without discipline in which all [of God’s children] share, then you are illegitimate offspring and not true sons [at all].

Its odd. I have tried other bibles. The NASB, The ESV and other bibles and they all sound weird to me.. I always revert back to NKJ because it is what I am comfortable with And am used to the wording and how it is written..

I wonder if anyone else has this issue with their favorite bible.

I have read (and heard) from multiple Bible versions/translations over time, having been in ongoing comparative studies, and also reading with Bob, during which time I tried to like the ESV... I really hoped to find it acceptable, as it is the version my church has chosen to go with. They used to use the NIV, but then it was changed too much in a subsequent publication, and they could not get enough of the older versions to supply the growing church needs at the time, so switched to the ESV. It is dismaying to me they use this translation. I also bought a second hand NRSV (I wanted an RSV, but the NRSV was the ONLY Bible the store had LOL), and found it lacking also. KJV certainly has unique words that one remembers :D Even if we do not talk like that ;) I also check multiple translations when I am designing a Scripture panel. These days I have been using the Berean Study Bible more for that purpose :)

There are some really bad translations (NLT is one of them) I think we have to be careful and realise no matter whihc one we use, we will have to study deeper in some areas where the english language is lacking to help us get a deeper understanding of the word. no matter what version you use

I agree: NLT will never make my top ten list, nor even my top 30. When people ask here where to start reading the Bible, I have posted a particular word for word movie based on the gospel of John which really could have only been better had they chosen a different version to depict (they chose the Good News Bible translation).
