Maybe he means

And somehow in the 80s and 90s all these phonie balogna tv guys are gozillionairs shovelling horse manure in place of the gospel.

Yeah, no fan of tv evangelists. A couple of them seem to be sincere, but for the most part I don't watch and I sure don't send money.

I used to love calvary chapel, the consept seemed great. Going, through the entire bible without skipping, and it is a great Bible study, but not a good church model. By the time you get to Romans its been 5 years since ya heard about anything in Dueteronomy.
I like the model of the church i am with now, we tie the old testament passages in with epistle passages and with gospel passages, and psalms, every Sunday. The vast majority of the words said in my church is scripture. Only about a quarter of the service is the words of the pastor.

Pastor Joe Focht came out of that era and environment and is a Calvary Chapel pastor in Philly. His congregation has a LOT of recovering addicts in it. I listen to his sermons on a regular basis. Like almost every day.

Some of the most grounded, doctrinally correct, detailed, accurate and loving, sincere preaching/teaching I have ever heard. Highest recommendation. A very down to earth guy with zero pretentions and no mind games or psychological trickery. Pre-trib premillennial and the goods to back that up BTW.

II Corinthians - Expositional by Joe Focht (blueletterbible.org)
Calvary Chapel has Churches all over the USA.

Chuck Smith, man who founded the Calvary Chapel Movement, is pretty deep in his theology along with many of Preachers following.

Many deal with addiction of all sorts and they seem to have great recovery successes.

Are you a member or someone associated with Calvary Chapel?

Hubby and I went with my parents last night to see the movie. I would say the whole crowd was Christians. Either way, we watched the movie and it moved me in a way I didn't expect it to. I don't know if any of you have seen it, I really went because my mother wanted to see it. But it's about what was called the Jesus Revolution or Movement that happened in the 70s. Time even wrote an article about the amazing amount of young people that were baptized and came to the Lord during this time. So the movie shows a typical church and pastor and hippies lining up to come to church and how that was perceived by the church members. I'll leave it there in case you choose to see the movie.

As the young "seekers" explore drugs and other things to get a high, one of them says "there is no truth". And that hit me rather hard because my 18yr old nephew and I were talking this weekend and he said the same thing. We don't usually talk on the phone, but got into some deep conversation and it gripped my heart when he said that. He was raised in church, his parents are Christians, his grandparents, but one, are Christians same with aunts and uncles. Yet talking to him he seemed to have a lot of distrust, a fatalistic view of the world, like there is no truth or control. I gently corrected him that God is truth and he conceded enough to say truth was hidden and that God was in control but it didn't see clear to me he believed that.

The thing is I know this is the feeling of the youth today. And I'm wondering how we cross this gap and reach out to this confused and lost generation. They literally don't know what gender they are. How do we reach them? They are looking for love, hope, a place to belong. How can we show the love of God to a young transgender, to a young homosexual, to a confused youth? That's why the Asbury Revival was so important. The youth of today have been lied to, they feel they cannot trust anyone or anything. And the last place they would think to turn to is the church. In fact I would think most would think the church hates them.

Where is our outreach, to the youth or just people of any age? As a church how are you reaching out? If you don't attend a church, how do you personally try to reach the lost? I heard an interesting song years ago and it would do well here. It's called If We are the Body. I will just share a few lines.

But if we are the body
Why aren't his arms reaching?
Why aren't his hands healing?
Why aren't his words teaching?
And if we are the body
Why aren't his feet going?
Why is his love not showing them
There is a way, there is a way

So I'd love to have a discussion about how we reach this generation for Jesus and have another revolution. Any thoughts to share?
I've found that preaching to them about their lifestyle doesn't respect them as persons. The best way is to share with them our stories of what God has done in our lives, that is, what witnessing is all about. They will listen to your stories about how God has changed you in your Christian walk with him.

How do we reach the young generation? With the gospel. With the message of repentance and faith. With the message of baptisms and holy living. Save some with compassion and some with fear, just as it is written.

Where are you located? Are you listening to 99.7 the frequency of heaven..☺
I get frequency on 89.7/89.9 both similar programs but the one is strictly Calvary Chapel Pastors.

A Pastor named Ed runs the station from his own Church Building. But it covers Calvary Chapel Pastors from California to Texas.

Are you considered to be a Member?

They really seem to have Pentecostal roots but the structure of their teaching style of beginning with Genesis then Exodus then next Book and next. Takes a couple real years total getting through 66 Books of the Bible.

Really removes the Holy Spirit from being free to change the pattern and shake everyone up.

But I still enjoy listening while I drive.

Pastor chuck has always taught the whole word from genesis to revelation and the pastors have kept that guide line.
However bible study is taught by the lords leading and we also have guest speakers.
Some from within calvary some from outside. Some from israel.
The pastors do respond and expound on certain topics when feedback from the congregation is heard or the Holy Spirit directs.

I took my family to see it last week. I wanted to encourage a desire for a revival.

My wife has said that God has told her that there will be a revival that takes place outside of the church (or maybe primarily outside of church bulidings) in which LGBT people, criminals, drug addicts, will come to Christ. Also, that there would be a revival in this Bible study we hae for youth in the community. Young people started showing up at our house, and we formed a Bible study. It was mainly my kids and non-church kids, though we are getting more church kids recently. We've had a couple of kids confused about their sexuality who have joined.

Anyway, back to the movie, from what numerous people say, Lonnie Frisbee had been molested as a child and was into the homosexual lifestyle, and fell back into sin later after this revival in the movie.

From what people have written who were there on Facebook and various videos, Lonnie Frisbee left before they moved to the tent. So that scene where Lonnie tries to give a word and Chuck Smith shuts him down, some say that never happened. He had gone to Florida to work on his marriage. He was with the 'Fort Lauderdale Five' in the the shepherding movement, and came back to Calvary Chapel where Chuck Smith put him to work directing traffic in the parking lot (directing some of the people he had led to Christ.)

I believe the part about Frisbee having a part in leading Greg Laurie to Christ is based on a true story, and also the part about prophesying about his preaching to crowds. The movie was silly about Chuck Smith giving the keys to the empty church building to Greg Laurie after he preached one sermon. He started a Bible study, I read, that grew into a larger congregation. And, yes he has massive crusades also where he preaches to really large crowds.

Also, from what I have read, Chuck Smith and the congregation were very outreach oriented. it is likely the part about people leaving the church because the Hippies came was made up by the screen writer for dramatic effect. The general gist of that part of the story is true.

The move present Lonnie Frisbee as being on an ego trip, with the way the actor talked, and they made it seem like this really big deal, crossing a line, when he says he thinks he is a prophet on the Kathryn Kuhlman show. I didn't see that part on the clip of the show on YouTube, if it even existed. It is possible the screen writer just put that clip on the Kathryn Kuhlman show. I have a fuzzy recollection of seeing Frisbee speaking at a Vineyard on a video saying he was a prophet. I think it was a Vineyard meeting.

I don't know if there was any kicking Frisbee out before he went to Florida with his wife to work on his marriage. That might have been fabricated.

Chuck Smith, though from a Pentecostal background, was a bit more conservative about 'Charismatic' type manifestations. The Vineyard congregatrions were a bit more open to it. John Wimber's congregation was a Calvary Chapel for a while, but it didn't fit with what Chuck Smitrh wanted because of the degree to which the Vineyard embraced some of these things. Lonnie Frisbee did preach at the Vineyard early on. Chuck Smith would teach the Bible verse by verse. Calvary Chapel had special meetings for gifts of the Spirit. Some may still do that. I think they call them 'Aglow' meetings or something like that. it might be a night service. I am not sure if all of them have a meeting like this.

So the film might be trying to capture some of the differences when it came to ministry philosophy.

Every day they have a live call in show between 4-5 pm.

Anyone can ask anything or request prayer.

Each days show has a different speaker, one answering callers questions, Monday thru Friday.

Since the Pastors choose to follow Chuck Smiths pattern of teaching/preaching, the call in question and answer show is where you really get to know just what both Calvary Chapel and each host/speaker/cc pastor theology is about.

They face enough questions that you will finally hear everyone's bottom line [Doctrine].

And whether I agree/disagree they do base their beliefs right from the pages of the Bible.

Btw, Greg Laurie went to see Lonnie Frisbee before, and he said Lonnie had repented of his sin.

You are welcome! I find his program very informative and his theology seems solid, though I don't get to
listen to it as often as I would like due to timing. Hey, heh, maybe I should just listen to the archives!

When a speaker has knowledge and you think you could learn something, that makes the difference between good and bad programs.

I look forward to listening.

How to get them to the church is the question. I don't see young people racing to go to church, not even Christian young people. Back when I was in ministry I stepped outside during a break and there were some young guys hanging around outside the church. One was smoking. And I asked if they attended the church. They kind of rolled their eyes and said they kind of did. As we began to talk deeper one young man said "they don't care about us in there, they don't even want us here!" Whether true or not, that was how they felt. I tried to encourage them and suggested they find other churches that had youth programs they could go to during the week. It was sad, I doubt many of them stayed and that's "churched" youth. That's why the movie touched me and why I asked the question.
