Proverbs 21:17
He that loveth pleasure shall be a poor man: he that loveth wine and oil shall not be rich.
He that loves pleasure refers to he who has his priorities out of alignment and loves pleasure more than He loves God, and the promise to him is that he will be a poor man. This is in spite of the comments one may verbally say in an attempt to cover up his sin of being friends with the world and at enmity with God (James 4:4). You know the comments often heard such as, “God knows my heart”, which will change once in hell to “I thought God knew my heart.”
He that loves wine and oil shall not be rich in spite of what they may think. God doesn’t operate on the premise of what we think or how we feel, but what we do with His Son, Jesus Christ according to His Word. I stand on the reality that men love wine and oil because of the way it makes them feel and who they think they are while partaking, while they could be trusting Jesus Christ to meet their every need and to learn who they could be in Christ.
