I dont bevieve we should base the streanth of our relationship with God on the amount of Bible reading we do or dont do, bible reading is good because what we believe is in the bible and we have faith in it. there is nothing wrong with the persons place with Jesus christ just because they havnt read the bible. if I read the Bible allot well good for me, if I pray allot thats great, but my value as a christian isnt got to do with what I do but with who Jesus is. if I dont read the bible some times "its ok" and if I do "good"
( john 5:39-40, you diligently study the scriptures because you think that by them you posess eternal life. these are the scriptures that testify about me, yet you refuse to come to me to have life )
the word of God is good for instruction and teaching and it states clearly that the only access to God is only through the Blood of Jesus, do we seek our way to God through the Blood or by some thing else? not on the ground that I have been patiant, or that I have done some thing for the Lord this morning, do I think that because I have learnt some deeper lesons of the word or the cross that now I have new and diferent ways to get near him. its never by doing something nice for God or praying more or reading the bible but always and only on what Jesus did and finished with his Blood that we have access to God. ( Heb 10:19-22 therefore brothers since we have confidance to enter the most Holy place by the Blood of Jesus, by a new and living way opened for us through the curtain, that is his body, and since we have a great preist over the house of God, let us draw near to God with a sincere heart in full assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled to cleanse us from a guilty concience and having our bodies washed with pure water.
Heb 9:12, Rom 3:24-26,

I personally don't read the bible enough........it's all about priorities isn't it!! The intention is there...but it's about following it through, being consistent....

I want to learn more, so I have to put the time in. As long as we are learning from what we read and growing...God is not interested in how to do it...in terms of timings...but He is interested in whether you are getting closing to Him and moving to that next level in Him in when you do it....this can often mean God saying to us..'spend more time with me'...which is what rings in my ears at times!!

:)

I would love to get into the routine of reading everynight. I read last night so maybe I will start the routine today! Good job for those of you who are faithful. =]

I VOTED ... I do read mine in the wee hours of the morning down in the basement when all are still sleeping and then I read it again at night before I got to bed ... so it makes for a peaceful morning for me and then a restful night to sleep so ... :)

I was thinking of all that yesterday. I've been trying to find a barrier, but i can't. I can't find something that's obstructing. And maybe the barrier isn't what's there, it's what's not there. Cuz i keep feeling like something's missing. And I guess what I'm missing is the love, but then, it's not just the love, it's any sort of feeling. I just do things because i do them. I know how much i need Him, i know. I know that I need to do something.
It's uncanny how much I relate to this.

As much as I can, which is usually several days a week :) If I am not reading the Word, I am praising His Name through worship and prayer.

I just wanted to be the first to post in the forum=) So how often?
I have been obsessed with the Psalms lately - I am committed to reading the entire book once a week for Lent.

Its good too see everyone being honest, sometimes we find it hard to study other times we come up with excuses. I use a devotion book, its really good especially when your running around the house like a headless chicken trying to get to work lol.

I also do a book study, with commentaries. you don'[t have to go that deep if you dont want to, there are some excellent study bibles out there with tons of notes explaing the text.

the three main ones I use are.

ESV Study Bible (I can't recommend this enough)

NLT study bible (great study notes)

NIV life application study bible (this is good for devotional notes are excellent).

After thinking about this, i feel more convicted than I already was about how much time I spend reading God's living word. instead of TV/internet etc.

Just as a side note, sometimes you can have more benifit from a good 10 minute reading than a 1 hr half hearted reading.

Good Thread.

Kind regards

Phil

I used to read a chapter a day but starting today it changes, I plan on reading at least a half hour but likely an hour a day. I came to the realization that a few minutes is pathetic, i'm either going all the way or I can be wishy washy and not mean business when it comes to putting God first. People talk about being under the law and how not to be what they call religious. They say were not under the law. I'm under whatever law I choose to be and if I choose to go through the motions or just not take the things of God seriously thats what I choose. I don't like to step on people's toes or flame them but this is important, it took this long for me to realize it. God has to convince you if I didn't. And maybe someday I will think an hour isn't enough. This is for anyone reading it.

Don't condemn yourself, I feel bad for what I posted but I still think I had to post it, If you should feel bad, I should feel worse I've struggled with God for over a decade and He's finally getting through.

Hi sunshine,

Thanks for your honesty, I am sure if we are all truthful with our selves no matter how super Holy we pretend to be. I am sure we will all agree with your heart felt statement. 'not as nearly as much as I could or should'

Kind regards

You need not ask G-d to forgive things that He will not condemn :) G-d is far more merciful and loving than to condemn you for a lackadaisical approach to reading His Word. The Word is alive and it is in you, as a child of G-d :)

Should we read G-d's Word more? Absolutely! Will be be condemned for not doing so as much as we can? Absolutely not.
