Something like that yes IMO.
Also consider the "observer effect" so noted by quantum physics experiments.
And Who is the Ultimate Observer?
Without His constant vigilance, all of creation would......immediately cease to exist.
Exactly.
This is known as "collapsing the wave function of the Universe".
The wave function is basically a word which says that at the quantum level everything is fuzzy and blurry or fluid like water or like a wave.
But the moment you look at things, or the moment consciousness looks at an object, then it's no longer fluid but it become solid.
However to collapse the whole wave function of the universe when we're not looking (because the universe is real even when we're not looking) then a Super Observer is needed to collapse the wave function.
In Christianity we call that The Holy Trinity, because the language above is Atheist language. They stop short of calling a "Super Observer" God. They don't like to use the word God.

Anyway, the point is that if folks can't even get the language right when discussing free will, you won't even understand what the discussion is all about.
Because Emily here is clear and i respect that.
She denies free-will, even when it's limited and she says that the Gospel is to be preaches to the elect only.
This is clarity. Even if we disagree, this is clear, short and sweet.

I respect her position and i'm also glad that she loves God in her own way.

At the time of the Reformation, and before, many ideas known as Calvinist today were widespread. Calvin is generally regarded today as having the most consistent doctrine of Grace and systematic exposition for his time. But you could read Zwingli, Augustine and Luther and get to the same place. I read John Gill and Herman Hoeksema more than Calvin.
Calvin is another man in history who is important but if we were to put a pyramid of the most important people in human history where we place Jesus Christ at the top since He is the best thing that has happened to humanity, i would put Calvin at around the bottom compared to other minds from which we have build our current knowledge on.
Today we have the luxury to see a huge accumulation and variety of human knowledge which allows us to compare so we can make a wise decision.
500 years ago we wouldn't have this luxury. 1000 years ago, even worse.
If we go back to the time of Christ his own people rejected Him despite doing miracles due to ignorance and a hardened heart.
Before Him, even worse.
So today we are blessed to have all this information in our hands in order to understand what we believe.

You vastly overestimate the increase of knowledge. Half of the sciences are fake, and I don't mean evolutionary theory: I mean papers never get retested. It's a racket with propaganda on top. Most things I hear people assert as facts are probably not true. Commonplaces about history and economics, false and probably created as lies as often as errors. I'm not so impressed with modern society.

Look, i agree with you here too and i am also a big proponent of limiting the internet because people have a loud speaker to "infect" the rest (or the young) with conspiracy theories.
But the truth of the matter is that knowledge has increased compared to the past, while at the same time, what our forefathers and ancestors have said about reality and more importantly what is said in the Bible, is being confirmed today by science.
So we are in a privileged point in history where we can see all of this happen and make the right choices.

If you take away all the fluff and the rhetoric, you are left with some very important teachings about our existence here.
This is the problem now with the internet. It's like going into a garage with a lot of junk, trying to find that one piece of paper.

I think the church needs to be involved in how people use the internet. I have no interests in arguing online or, frankly, socializing. I mainly use the internet to get free books and lectures.

People seem to forget:
Israel went to seed doctrinally. Broken beyond repair.
Jesus did not try and salvage it. He decommissioned it.

Similarly take a look at the Church today and ask yourself: is the end of the Church age and tribulation right around the corner?
