You have the physical supernatural ability to speak in tongues given to you the Holy Spirit Himself and this is the best you can come up with?

Why don't you and your supernatural interpreter get together and simply come back with a sensical explanation for the lack of evidence of your ilk's past claims.

Yes this is an open forum but you seemed to take particular objection to my post addressed to someone else and you seem to continue
along the same lines.

Perhaps you should take a little more time when responding to a post. I never said anything about Paul giving out boundaries. I used the word 'instructions', which, is exactly what he is doing. We all have Bibles and can find all sorts of commentaries, lexicons and many different Bible translations online so each person can seek God, believe He hears and will answer.

I'm not worried or bothered in the least if you or anyone else anywhere disagrees with me. The Bible is plain in its instructions through Paul and if you actually want to use the word boundaries, even though I did not, I would suggest that you are the one who is free to set up your own boundaries as to what you believe or want to participate in and that goes for each and every one.

If you do require a blessing, I suggest you seek God for it. That is what I would do.

well the scriptures are clear about what the gifts is for but there seems to be many different interpretations of what it is for and plus I am studying the gift in general not just what it is for there seems to be more than one form of tongues as well such as worship or prayer or testifying you seem to have a good grasp on the gift as well as understanding what it is for me I am still learning. as far as experiencing power if one is seeking such an expereince and just want the gift for that experience they liekly won't get it because the gifts are given to us for the church not for experience that much I understand

I simply wanted what God had for me and really had no understanding of the gifts because the church I grew up in, while a pretty good church otherwise, were cessationist when it came to that particular gift and have no idea what they thought about the rest of the gifts. Since I had no teaching, I thought that tongues would make my life wonderful and I would have no more problems. Talk about naive!

While the gifts are for the church, they also edify the individual believer. As the Bible states, God is no respecter of persons and He
knows your heart. Jesus said to the disciples that they would receive power after the Holy Spirit came upon them.

But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes upon you, and you will be My witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.” Acts 1:8 The power is for the glory of God and to witness. This is not to say we never feel anything or are not aware of the Holy Spirit working through us, but there is too much emphasis on certain aspects which leads
to error and people have a tendency to think that if it happens in church it must be God. That, is not a true statement.

Perhaps you are not aware, but praying in tongues is common and that is part of the self edification. Sadly it seems some in this forum
think the word edification means self aggrandizement and so they make comments that show ignorance of the Bible.

to be honest I don't know if I will ever speak in tongues and perhaps that is just not in my gifting and I wouldn't want to ask unless it was for a good reason anyways, if there is any reason to have it I would want it to be to testify the gospel or to worship God I wouldn't want to use it for myself. and it sounds like it is something not everyone can have anyways but I also would not want to freak anyone out by using it either I have heard some people try to speak tongues and it is like they think the louder the better and it freaked me out that is for sure I visisted this pentecostal church once and this lady behind me was trying to speak in tongues and was insanely loud she kept saying yada yada yada which I think in hebrew means my God my God but I could be wrong about that, anyways hebrew seems to be the main language people gp to when trying to speak in tongues but you would think that if one is using tongues that they would speak in more than hebrew but that is the only language I have heard people speak when trying to speak in tongues.

Actually @Lamar I see in the past posts you believe the gift just want evidence for it, well that is kind of contradictory to what faith is isn't it? if you require a sign or evidence to believe then you likely won't get it. I have seen so much babbling nonesense that I might as well not believe in the gift but I do and it was without having any evidence of it yet I still believed in it that allowed me to be able to expereinece the real thing for myself, perhaps if you choose to believe even without evidence then you will recieve the evidence you desire but that is just my opinion

Just to clarify. Tongues WAS a sign. It was a sign to point to the validity of the message of the Lord Jesus Christ.

What we have today is a sign(tongues) that points to the validity of the message of men.

Tongues ALWAYS proved the validity of the message of the Lord Jesus Christ. Today? Men fight for their validity in THEIR use of tongues.

Frankly I won't darken the doorstep of some churches because of the way they use tongues. I don't need any spiritual conflict and
poking around in places where there is a big lack of discernment is one way to enter into deception. I have no understanding of any particular language being the 'standard' for tongues and I have not seen one in scripture either. You can find the word 'yada' in Hebrew but it does not mean 'my God'...I just looked it up.

My best advice would be to pray and receive clarity regarding all these questions of yours from God.

Now if any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask from God, the One giving generously to all and not finding fault, and it will be given to him.
James 1:5 with the caveat to ask in faith:
But let him ask in faith, doubting nothing, for the one doubting is like a wave of the sea, being blown and being tossed by the wind.

and there are prayers written by Paul that you can pray in the first person (in other words for yourself). For example. Ephesians 1
v. 18 I pray that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened in order that you may know the hope to which he has called you, the riches of his glorious inheritance in his holy people

you could do a search on the prayers of Paul for believers and begin to get an idea of how much God want us to know and understand Him and the love He has for us. You are not in danger believing what scripture says, but pray for discernment also.

Well I don't know who you are meaning above, but unless they understood the language or could interpret, I am not sure how that would work. Remember that those who first received the gift of tongues were taken to be drunk. Remember that Paul gave easy to
understand instructions on how gifts should be used. Decently and in order hardly seems to fit the way so much is done these days.

Modern day claims of tongues are a far cry from that which is described in the New Testament.

New Testament tongues were legitimate examples of physical supernatural manifestations of the Holy Spirit.
Modern tongues are simply gibberish.

We are sealed and indwelt with the Spirit the moment we believe. Acts 16:31. A splash in water is just the first outward/visual acknowledgment of the inward reality......Our first witness to the world.
