Correction: OSAS does not teach that. Calvinists teach that.

Jesus taught that believer have eternal life in John 5:24. He also taught that recipients of eternal life shall never perish in John 10:28.

It's not difficult to connect the dots here. Once given the gift of eternal life, the recipient shall not (cannot) perish.

In Matt 7:21-23, what is clear is that the crowd had never believed, as you correctly note. Their entire appeal for entering the kingdom is based on what THEY did for Him, not what He did for them. Which is a big difference.
I agree that once someone is given the gift of eternal life it cannot be revoked and will not be revoked.

But some people - such as the OP, make the mistake of thinking those who were given such a gift have the desire, when filled with God's Holy Spirit, to commit grievous sin.

God's people, while they may make mistakes and have some minor sins in their life they are working to overcome with God's help, aren't ever going to run around murdering and whoremongering etc.. that is your sign they don't belong to God, because we are OF our respective father, whether that father be God or the devil.

It is just stunning that any confessing Christian could think such a thing! Paul was clear when he tells believers to NOT grieve (Eph 4:30) or quench (1 Thess 5:19) the Holy Spirit.

To think a believer would commit any sin when filled with the Spirit is beyond absurd.

In fact, no believer can sin when filled with the Spirit. Maybe the OP was meaning indwelt with the Spirit, which is a different subject.

Well, recall King David committed rape and murder as a mature believer. He had been king for a number of years.

Then there's the couple in Acts 5 who thought they could get away with lying to the Holy Spirit, and the incestuous man in 1 Cor 5:5. And the list goes on.

Jesus said there's few on the straight and narrow. Lets not forget that we are a minority joined by wolves in sheep's clothing. Never has a whole nation been any different.
